The original comic the tv show was based on was dark, Batman originally used a gun for crying out loud. When people say Batman now is too dark I can tell they don't really know the character. That's not a knock on Adam West's Batman either, I thought he played a pretty serious Batman for the most part compared to most of the rest of the cast. But Batman is and never was meant to be a light hearted character. The movie that actually got the closest to the comics was 2005's Batman Begins.
The artist Prince loved Batman as a child born in 1958. The television theme to Batman was the first tune he learned to play on the piano at the age of seven. When asked to write music for the 1989 Batman movie, he jumped at the chance. In retrospect, the Batman album is considered to be a high point in Prince's career.
One of the best moments of my life was Meeting Adam West , Burt Ward and Julie Newmar at a comic book convention in I think it was 2004. It cost me about $300 bucks for all of there autographs but it was so worth it 🙂
I was in the third grade when Batman premiered on TV January 1966. Wore a Batman costume at home playing & got the Ideal toy figure playset ... Captain Action with Batman costume & all the bubblegum cards ... coloring books ... & of course DC comicbooks. My parents did not have alot of money but I got the Batman items for birthdays & Christmas time. When the show was on when I was a little boy I thought girls were yucky then but there was something about tall Julie Newmar in the Catwoman outfit that I liked. I live in Massachucetts & was lucky enough to meet Adam West & Burt Ward on 2 different occasions for photo ops & autographs at Northeast Comicon. The last time I saw Adam & Burt at the show Mr. West passed away 3 months later. Glad I was able to meet them briefly . The show was a big part of my childhood. I liked Superhero comicbooks ...movies ... & TV shows to this day 2022 & collect memorbilia. Thanks to Mr. West & Mr. Ward for a fun TV show !
One of my favourite shows growing up, lying on the floor after school watching Batman. I had a Batmobile and the 'Batman Game'. As an adult I see the humour in it and can enjoy Batman all over again!
Batman was the Police Squad of its day. Batman was an escape from all the chaos going on in the world at the time. Me and my two brothers never missed an episode. We'd hang out in our parents' room to watch it.
Adam West was Batman of the 1960 such a great actor such a fantastic show and Kevin Conroy was always the voice for Batman in the animated series of the 90s two great actors of all time
I watched Batman religiously on television in the 1960s. One week my mother decided we were all going to see a movie, which we never did. My sister and I had to miss Batman. We were crushed. Ordinarily going to a movie would have been great. I did enjoy the movie, which was "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines". Cute movie. I also had a pair of slip-on Batman tennis shoes, and I also still have a 33 LP Batman album. Good time to grow up.
ABC considered a fourth season but to do so the plan was to eliminate Robin, Chief O'Hara, and Aunt Harriet and to center the show on Batman, Batgirl, Alfred, and Commissioner Gordon. Adam West refused to throw any of his cast mates "under the bus" and refused to sign on for it. After the show was canceled ABC had all the sets destroyed (including the Batcave). The story goes that NBC wanted to pick up the show but when they found out the sets had been destroyed they passed on it. (Adam West had actually confirmed this story in interviews)
There was a story during the first season of the episode where Julie Newmar was introduced as Catwoman the episode was interrupted to cover the news that Gemini 8 was having technical trouble in space. The switchboard at ABC was flooded with calls complaining about Batman being interrupted.
I remembered Yvonne Craig playin Batgirl she’s was really wonderful especially purple Batgirl outfit with her high heels and her red hairstyle 💁♀️, she’s especially her Batgirl motorcycle 🏍, utility belt with various stuff like rope, Batgirl Geiger radioactive ☢️ counter on her Batgirl Cycle, secret freight elevator and other various stuff. Jennydebrier
I have to wonder what kind of tights Burt and Adam were given to wear. Men do dance the ballet and do wear tights. Back in 1966, both Burt and Adam had slim bodies that could have been fitted for tights suitable for dancing as well as doing stunt fighting. They went through a lot being Super Heros.
Think they looked gorgeous and their legs fitted the tights that were given - but today's Charnos or Walford 120 denier pantyhose would have looked so silky and made the most of costume chic x
ABC and Greenwood Productions who produced Batman at one point to cut costs were about to fire Madge Blake but Adam West intervened and threatened to leave the show if she was released. They subsequently backed off and I read that Miss Blake baked a cake and brought it to Adam West in appreciation
I loved watching Batman I dident think it was camp Overused,, it was out their 60s Style, it was pure entertainment Top show.. wasn't quite as good When batgirl came on the scene.
loved the show, got all the jokes, color was so cool,60s cool, good guys always won,but were good sports, lol, some topical stuff about drugs,60s topical show.
2:05 The bottom half of Ward's head appears to be expanding while the top portion shrinks; the eyes growing more closely together...very odd We all generally get uglier as we age but something isn't quite right with this dude's deterioration
Because you have to explain the broad appeal of Batman. You don’t understand… stores would empty of customers to make sure they were home to watch Batman. This show appealed to every age demographic which is unreal, even 55 five years since then.
Adam West, the one true Batman.
I love Adam West’s Batman. Later Batman movies are too dark
The original comic the tv show was based on was dark, Batman originally used a gun for crying out loud. When people say Batman now is too dark I can tell they don't really know the character. She gave him curious stirrings in his utility belt. I loved their comedy it was done so seriously and it was so funny!
Adam West is the one and only Batman. Thank you, sir.
West played the role of Batman to perfection.
Agreed
❤I love his interpretation of Batman
West is irreplacable.
Adam West is the best Batman.
I really looked forward to Batman on TV every week in the 1960s. I also still consider that version of the Batmobile as the coolest car in history!!
The artist Prince loved Batman as a child born in 1958. The television theme to Batman was the first tune he learned to play on the piano at the age of seven. When asked to write music for the 1989 Batman movie, he jumped at the chance. In retrospect, the Batman album is considered to be a high point in Prince's career.
yeah, nobody cares. Prince was a vulgar pig and hideously overrated.
Julie Newmar is the best Catwoman.
Also, Eartha Kitt.
One of the best moments of my life was Meeting Adam West , Burt Ward and Julie Newmar at a comic book convention in I think it was 2004. It cost me about $300 bucks for all of there autographs but it was so worth it 🙂

At 57 years old, I am considering buying the entire Batman TV series on DVD.
I'll come over and watch them with you!
Go ahead. Great idea.
Adam West will always be MY Batman! The whole group are my favorite incarnation of the Batman world.
Thanks to Adam West there was nothing better than playing Batman when I was a kid growing up during the 1960's. 🦇
I wish I had kept the complete set of Batman cards I had in the 60’s.
*60s
Thankyou Adam West for being the OG best Batman

Batman … I Grew Up with this Show. I Like Batman ..Thank You for Sharing .🦇💇♂️
One of my favourite shows growing up, lying on the floor after school watching Batman.
I had a Batmobile and the 'Batman Game'.
As an adult I see the humour in it and can enjoy Batman all over again!
Me too! I still have my Corgi Batmobile, the board game, Batman color forms, Batman Mego figure, Ben Cooper Batman cloth play suit.
Adam Wests voice over work was great.
He played an iconic Batman and created an iconic sound as well as character…
*voiceover
RIP Adam West, " the only Batman"...
Batman was the Police Squad of its day.
Batman was an escape from all the chaos going on in the world at the time. Me and my two brothers never missed an episode. We'd hang out in our parents' room to watch it.
I’m not sure what year this was made but I really wish Yvonne Craig was a part of this. I wish they would have mentioned her.
The fun continues with Mayor Adam West in Family Guy!
Long live Batman 60's tv show. I love the show, probably my personal favorite 😍
Thanks for sharing with us.
Adam West was Batman of the 1960 such a great actor such a fantastic show and Kevin Conroy was always the voice for Batman in the animated series of the 90s two great actors of all time
Adam West was the perfect Batman in the 60's and he will be missed by his family and friends and fans who knew him best
I remember after Mr. West passed away the mayor of Los Angeles had the "Bat Signal" light up in the sky above LA city hall as a tribute
I feel 4 years old all over again watching this.
For me, this is still the best Batman! ❤️
He looked so good in that costume without any fake padding like the other Batman.
i loved adam west
love juile newmar
No burt Batman debut January 12th 1966. It was a Wednesday, not a Tuesday.
I watched Batman religiously on television in the 1960s. One week my mother decided we were all going to see a movie, which we never did. My sister and I had to miss Batman. We were crushed. Burt Ward is the one and only Robin.
I agree!
I loved Bat Man and always will. I'm a 68 years old kid.😊
Yes Adam was a terrific Batman, but at the same time Burt was the perfect Robin!!
Burt, the show was on Wednesday and Thursday nights. 😎
There was a story during the first season of the episode where Julie Newmar was introduced as Catwoman the episode was interrupted to cover the news that Gemini 8 was having technical trouble in space. The switchboard at ABC was flooded with calls complaining about Batman being interrupted.
I can't stop laughing 🤣
God I miss him
Omg to funny 🤣 grew up in the 60 watch the show all the time

She was my FAVORITE on the show.☺️ Yvonne Craig was absolutely fabulous.

ABC and Greenwood Productions who produced Batman at one point to cut costs were about to fire Madge Blake but Adam West intervened and threatened to leave the show if she was released. They subsequently backed off and I read that Miss Blake baked a cake and brought it to Adam West in appreciation
Holy Strawberries Batman 🍓 are we in a jam ???😂😂😂 lol
Burt: *THERE ARE + PLURAL NOUNS
Adam West and I have the same birthday.
Awwww,💖
In those first three days, was Bruce over having coffee while Burt was getting 2nd degree burns?
Watching this video, Burt & Adam, I can't remember when I laughed this hard. GREATEST APPRECIATION TO THE MAKERS OF THIS VIDEO. ❤ 😂

Ah? Incredible hulk
Anybody who played on Batman had to be a great actor. I mean how could you do a show like that and keep a straight face?
I loved watching Batman

2:05 The bottom half of Ward's head appears to be expanding while the top portion shrinks; the eyes growing more closely together...very odd
We all generally get uglier as we age but something isn't quite right with this dude's deterioration
Why did that women think we needed to know her brother went to Harvard?
Because you have to explain the broad appeal of Batman. You don’t understand… stores would empty of customers to make sure they were home to watch Batman. This show appealed to every age demographic which is unreal, even 55 five years since then.
@@Now_lets_get_this_straight Pretty sure that's not it.
That's funny to finally find out Burt ward wore tights. I thought they were pantyhose all those years. 😄
How old is Burt Ward & Adam West
Now
Forgive the pun but is it me or does Julie seem a bit "batty" here.......hello dear, mother earth calling...
