you move your hands snd jaw--and try not to move your head, but it will probably and up combining all three techniques.

Man! I just realized that you are the author of the book that got me to pick up my first Harp as a teenager. The up riff and the down riff. Thanks so much. It's great you are still jamming. Love the videos.

    Thanks John!
I came across your lessons a few months ago when I "discovered" harp after playing banjo and guitar for 40 years. I loved your lessons, but moved on to dig into other (Also very talented) instructors here on youtube , but now I'm back to you.
You have an amazing approach to teaching harp. It's very loose and organic. You make it clear how much music and beauty lives in that little 4 or 5 note range.
You really teach a man to fish!

    Hello Master!
2 days ago it popped up that video here Pocket Full of Soul The Harmonica where Annie Raines tells she was like me, depressed, discouraged. For more than 45 years I listened The Blues, I danced it, I feel it in all my cells but always I thought I'm way too stupid to play it myself. And never tried it for scared! I'm white by born, but everyone who knows me, my family, my friends, all kind of other people whom watched me dancing or beating the rhythm with my hands or feet, were amazed telling me I'm actually "a faded negro"😂. I don't know why but all my life I loved everything about black culture, I start to listen Blues around 14yo and then I'd read and learned about all the sad history of those marvelous talented black slaves. "The Negros" becomes my favorites Singers, Movies Actors, Sportmen. I realized they have a "special-advanced-out-this-world talent" that we, the "whities" generally lack (exceptions admitted). At 16 I decided that The Blues is my every day vitamin. Without Blues I am like feeling ill, no having reason to start my day. The Blues helped me to overcome difficult times and trials and crises all my life.
Now I'm 61 and feel so idiot losing all my life without even try. Today I received your book 2nd edition and I will receive also an EastTop Harmonica Diatonic Blues Key of Paddy C (I don't have a clue what that means I only bought it after reading some webs for beginners). I don't know to read musical notes (Do, Re, Mi, etc) never did. I feel to stupid to even think I will ever learn to play Blues that make me laugh of myself. Man, this is my general consistent feeling. But this time I bought the book and the Harmonica nevertheless. I will try do this and I'm f..king decided to try hard. That young lady and you and all others Artists talking in that documentary just made me think for the firs time in my life maybe I can do it too. Just maybe.... We'll see if before I die I will get to play some Blues. For myself only, yeah, for my soul and from my "negro" feelings. Greetings and love from Spain to all Blues lovers!

Well, you don't sound very stupid to me! Keep at it. I've played guitar and banjo for 40 years (I'm about 60yo). Not a bad player, but always felt like music didn't come naturally to me.
Picked up harp only a few months ago and I am LOVING it, even though I haven't had a lot of time to play yet.
      KEEP AT IT!
There are a lot of great harmonica instructors on TH-cam, but there is something special about John's lessons.

You’ve done an awful lot of good Jon, and I choose to remember you as a great harp educator and an advocate for the downtrodden of the Delta. Not as a foolish old man with a man-crush on a wannabe dictator who doesn’t give a shit about anyone but his own self. Who definitely doesn’t give a shit about the downtrodden of the delta. Or about you.

Hey John I love these lessons and I am going to buy the set. Thank you for putting them out. I am also finding the 2 draw to be the most challenging to get a good tone on. Do you have any tips for that?

Is learning the blues on acoustic guitar easy?

    • @jamcamp06

It all requires dedication, instruction, time, practice, discipline and love. Talent doesnt hurt but not necessary to learn and play. You can develop talent over time.
