    YES! Building a foundation is key! I started blowing harp 20yrs ago ...took lessons from Ronnie Shellist, Magic Dave and few other CO locals and no one hammered on me about doing my scales and it seemed I was going nowhere fast AND just learning licks! thus I lost interest and quit! Recently rediscovered the fun in music and doing it with others and your "Trick" of practicing scales everyday!! Now at 80 it isn't as easy but I'm getting smarter as time drags on! duh! PRACTICE THE BASICS!!

    Playing blues is NOT easy.

      Compared to most other styles, the blues is one of the easiest in structure.

    Sorry I didn't publish a video last week, I had some computer issues that I've fixed.
    Next week I'll be talking about tongue blocking. Any questions?

      Great lessons Jonah, thank you. Nobody ever tells you what part of the tongue is used to cover the adjacent hole(s) when tongue blocking.

    How ever did i manage to teach myself? No practicing scales = let alone blues scales, I didn't learn any root notes or chord structures, I just listened to and copied- The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Them, Yardbirds et al.. Then a friend got me into the real thing, mainly Little Walter, and finally Paul Butterfield. Like Butter, I play the harp upside down and I never tongue block.

      That’s cool Chris. I find tongue blocking to be so superior, but the initial few weeks using it are a little strange. I hope next week‘s video will help!

    Thank you Jonah and well done! I have toyed with the idea of taking a course but for one reason or another I haven't done so. I almost joined Indira Safire's course but life things get in the way and since I am 75 years old I figured it would seem like I am just a dirty old man but, she is gorgeous and very talented.
    Put your class together and who knows I may join in. You have talent and are extremely easy to learn with. Keep up the good work young man and you will do well.

    Hey Jonah,
    Dj here... Bought a special 20... For my b-day on the 20th of Nov 2022.
    I am pro flugle horn player so I have a great amboucher and obviously a monster in music theory. I love the sound of the blues harp
    thought I'd give it a try... Not bragging but somebody needs to call Oprah... 😂
    Na really... I'm giving myself a month and I'll be performance ready but it wouldn't be possible without your clear instructions. Good job young man, when I get a Grammy I'll be sure to give you credit !😎

    Hey Jonah at risk i am of making a fool of myself but.....at 3.28 you show us some pentatonic scales right ? so how come there are 6 notes in them and not 5 ?
    Please explain what a t*t i am and the reason. many thanks Lolwit

    • @HarmonicaRevolution
      @HarmonicaRevolution  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just the octave repeated. 5 notes total, Scale degree 1 (G) is on -2 and 6.

      Of course, If i was as familiar with the notation of my harp as you are I wouldn't have asked the question. I said i'd make a t*t of myself asking it, But hey, I'll leave this on just in case an other T*t wants to know.
      And hey. that was a quick reply. It's really good of you to help us out like that and i (and others )appreciate it.
      This vid has helped me a lot. Hope you have the satisfaction of knowing how much this is helping. cheers mate !!

    Interesting that the important blues scale notes are not chordal notes. Chords are major and minor

    • @HarmonicaRevolution
      @HarmonicaRevolution  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Other notes that don't fit the chords exactly create tension. It's the act of creating and resolving tension that makes most music sound interesting. If you are always playing on notes that harmonize, then your playing will sound safe and boring.
