Nice work, and reclaiming you saved a tree! I like the cardboard corners used as stands!

Good video! I like the look of the joined boards. Like you, I don’t have a jointer, and use a similar jig to straighten the edges for joining. Alternatively, 1 x 10 pine boards from a lumber yard or home center store are typically crap and don’t stain well. If looking for a quick shelving solution, you might as well use plywood. However, if you want anything with character or visual interest, the joined pallet wood is worth the effort. I always look forward to your videos.

Thanks a lot totally agree. I usually use plywood as well, but I’ve had these pallet board sitting around for two years and have struggled to find any use for them. Thanks so much for watching. I really appreciate it.

You took care to alternate the colors of the shelves, wish they were symmetric though :P

Nice job going step-by-step through the process of getting the material to a point that you can actually build something. From that perspective, I don't think it's worth my time and energy, and I speak from the experience of doing what you did a few times on some shop projects. I appreciate watching someone like Paul Jackman from Jackman Works building some impressive projects out of pallets, but he does it in part for our amusement. Additionally, I have to consider the fact that I would hate to ruin the knives in my DeWalt planer or a blade in my table saw because I overlooked a nail or a staple that I missed with my metal detector.

I totally agree, it’s too many hours and like you said not worth the risk to planer knives. Maybe if you luck out with some Nice Oak, or other hardwood maybe, but I think I’m done using pallets. It was an interesting experiment, regardless. Thanks for Watching, I appreciate it.

A lot of effort but it is free.

Very true, that is a big one, particularly if you can find some decent hardwood that comes to life after planing it. Thanks for Watching!
