- The U.S. Men's National Team traveled to Antigua to face Antigua & Barbuda in the USA's first trip to the Carribbean island. After a hard fought match on a narrow, difficult pitch, U.S. forward Eddie Johnson popped up late on with a header to secure a vital three points for the U.S. MNT as they look to continue the road to Brazil and the World Cup in 2014.

Respect for Antigua! Such a small island nation able to stand up to usmnt! Good job Antigua, and usmnt, I hope this was a good scare for you guys.
Antigua's goalkeeper made some critical saves here! GJ to both of teams.
Thank you Eddie Johnson!
Why does the USMNT have to make WC qualifying feel like a rollercoaster ride, ffs man! I'm gonna have a heartattack trying to support this team.
Did you die yet? Nothings changed
First commentator refers to Dexter Blackstock as 'Kevin Blackstock' and then the post-match graphics show the goalscorer as 'Blackstone'. Great work.
thank you johnson!!!!!!!
a win is a win but please iknow wer a good team nd need to step it up but GO usa!!!!! we shud call in spector nd lichaj davies and holder nd jozy bro i respect u ur a beast nd iknow ur better thn tht u show it but play ur heart with the national team thts all we ask for GOD BLESS GO USA!!!
You mentioned a lot of names that could not possibly be called up in the short term. I agree, they should have some more decisive wins, but that will come with time. I think Klins is leading them in the right direction and is not afraid to bring up the youth to the play the hot foot. US mens soccer is on the up and up and I am excited to see what the future awaits.
new players but no desire. Especially with the current coach. All downhill and back to square one. Just in time before the 2022 world cup
I shouldn't have ever whimpered so scared from this game at all! It should have been at least a 3-0 win!
a great match 👏👏👏
The match USA vs Guatemala will be simply fantastic!I wait this time!
Good to see Bradley back out there.
san jose earthquake forward to a seattle saunders forward for the winner... love it, from a galaxy fan...
It means a lot to hear this. I have been a Bradley supporter since he got the job (and subsequently lost it). He did amazing things with the USMNT, but naive soccer fans are inherently Euro-snobbish. And Klinsmann's signing catered to those fans. We need to realize that were are not European. We are American. Mexico accepts their style and win gold medals. We need to accept ours instead of trying to be Germany.
you correct on most of it. but usa needs to work on there mids feeding the strikers more options . and tighten up on cbacks
USL used to have two professional divisions: USL-1 and USL-2 with 1 being the 2nd division of US Soccer and 2 being the 3rd. But in 2010 several USL clubs broke away from USL to form a new 2nd division league separate from USL and made it a rebirth of the old NASL. The remaining pro USL teams formed a single professional league called USL Professional Division, or USL Pro, that is the third division of US Soccer, behind MLS and the NASL.
How come the men's team highlights go up right away where sometimes we have to wait days before the women's team's do?
woo dude thats crazy . well something needs to be done or changed to start producing young talent players that are consistent throughout there whole career
Everyone, including the big teams struggle in World Cup qualifying. The whole idea is to qualify and that's it. It doesn't have to be pretty. Going on the road to a different country to play a soccer game isn't easy, no matter who the opponent is. The team has to deal with rough weather conditions, like this game, and play on a field like this. They got the 3 points and most likely will advance to the Hex. One more to go.
They were playing on a cricket field but it looked like there was more space to expand the field. Maybe A&B thought the small pitch might help them and it probably did.
Did they play on an official AYSO pitch? Look how narrow it is. The goal box is about 5 meters away from the sideline.
No. Donovan was dealing with a series of not seemingly too serious injuries. He has been hinting at retirement due to burnout. He's still only 30 though. So I have a hard time seeing him not playing through the 2014 WC.
aged poorly
I completely agree with you on the problem of academy teams. it's the same exact problem with highschool soccer which pisses me off.
yeah eddie did saved the day who would of thought that LoL, when are we gona have a consistent starting 11?, how is klintsman expecting results , when the team consistently has to build new chemistry every other game, can we please have donovan dempsey shea, and a solid defence all at once in the pitch for once.
The weather, pitch and size should not be excuses. For soccer all you need is a ball and flat patch of dirt
Midfield is by far the best thing that USA has.
Peter byer u looking good wishing u could get the chance in england to show antigua talant
USMNT relying on the Quakes to get them the winner, great ball from Gordon to set up the goal. But the defence needs some work I think.
So glad we pulled it out but dissappointed in our performance. We played a tiny island nation. Most of their players play in USL come on.
We got what we needed. It's a pretty good result considering how bad the performance is
Actually, the US was one the highest amount of players playing on the school-boy and school-girl level. I don’t know the exact number, but it is higher than most if not all countries. The problem is that we do not have the correct academies in place for these kids to develop into great footballers. Also, football (soccer) is not of on the big three sports in the US, but I strongly believe it will be in the next 10 years.
I cant believe we barely managed to defeat this team by one goal in the 90th minute. I hate to admit it but the future does not look good for us
Altidore hasn't been doing well for the MNT, this i believe is more of a wake up call to Jozy so that he knows he has to step up his game with the MNT if he wants more call ups.
graham zusi is a beast whenever he suits up for the USA
EJ is as good as ever
Quake player had the set up, sounders player with the finish! MLS at work
Hey... Mexico is realistically a top 5 team right now and when the U.S. plays in a 4-4-2 instead some other funky formation like a 4-5-1, the U.S. has a top ten team.
Why does the scoreboard at the end say Blackstone?
a win is a win, but im starting to worry a bit if we are playing like this against a&B?? 2-1 last minute goal... with the bad pitch and all, I hope klintsman has the best starting 11 regardless of injuries or not against guatemala this tuesday or this u.s team might end up not qualifying for the 2014 W.C loosing to guatemala, and what an emberresment that will be to the nation who is sopose to be in the same class with MEXICO, lets cross our fingers for atleast a repeat of 1-1 draw with Guate.
Zusi gives great crosses.
Is Landon Donovan done? He hasn't started in a long time.
Honestly the Antigua goal shouldn't have even counted. Blackstock fouled Goodson by practically pulling him to the floor . . . the score hardly reflects how not-close the game was. Especially given the conditions
everyone points to Adu as one of the people who should come in, and as a union fan, i want him as far away as possible.
if it is HD, why is the quality crappy?!
how does the usa keep scoring 90' min. goals?
Thats exactly right. Gotta love playing football in CONCACAF!
can anyone tell me the names of the refrees?
what ia up with antigua's shorts...retro 80's or what?
dude what are you talking about. Mexico is for sure gonna qualify for the World Cup.
thing is Bradley had a bunch of guys in their prime and the ones he tried out worked problem is after the World Cup those same guys let him down cause of either injury or bad performances. Bradley was good but also helped the players he had flourished and those same guys wont perform anymore. Klinnsman is pretty much having to start over and find a new core which is never easy and besides while the results arent flashy we're pretty much qualified for the next round
it's good that US soccer has come a long way. but barely scrapping by concacaf dwarf teams like antigua, jamaica and guatemala is definitely a cause for concern.
Isn't it Blackstock? Not Blackstone?
r u ready for the CONCACAF Hexagonal Round?
First matchdate on Feb. 6, 2013 games:
Mexico vs. Jamaica in Estadio Azteca,
Honduras vs. USA in Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano, and
Panama vs. Costa Rica in Estadio Rommel Fernandez
Mexico should win in their home match bcuz they R the football giants of CONCACAF, also United States. Which 3 teams will be in the 2014 FIFA World Cup?
your correct but football and basketball take the hype. if the media shows more views on soccer and gains popularity the yoouth will start getting into it more than it had been in the past
I know another Caribbean island with a lot of potential
They have a USL Pro team. NASL is just advertising.
hearing from my fellow mexican friends the US isn't the only one having this problem. Mexico is too.
thts so true lik wen bradley had the ball lik 3 guys breathing on his neck fifa needs to look at this
As compared to beating Italy and Mexico away? It's not like we were exactly dominating under Bob Bradley. Remember we lost to Panama and Mexico right before his firing?
And how many players do you have on the USMNT? EBFG
You can try to give the Quakes as much credit as possible but
"FUUUUUCK THAT" SAID EJ! LEMME SHOW Y'ALL HOW SEATTLE DOES IT!
I deny that. The best players in the world are from South America.
Struggling in away qualifiers is normal, even for Mexico (who also lost to Jamaica in Jamaica the last time they played there, and needed goal differential just to make the hex in 2010 qualifying). We don't have to qualify in style, we just have to qualify.
ehh but qualifying in style brings great confidence for the team and fans going forward. Cuz otherwise it'll look disastrous, kinda like now......
@@IsaiasSoldier2 The 2002 team also finished 3rd in qualifying and nearly got eliminated by Barbados in the semifinal round of qualifying. They made the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
The 2006 team cruised through qualifying and got bounced in the group with one point.
Did anybody notice that Goodson got hoarse collared on that ATG goal?
Flash Gordon facilitating the magic at the end.
A guy with the name Blackstock scored, not Blackstone...
The US is just an up and down team. They do this against A&B but find a way to beat Italy and Mexico on the road.
Bradley or Klinnsman isn't going to change that.
That was really close.
and the chase pack isn't just Honduras and Costa Rica anymore either
BeIN Sport: Put Steve and Ray on the future US games!
It's never easy to beat antigua AND Barbuda. USMNT should get credit for beating two nations at once!!! LOL
Keep things in perspective people. JK is bringing in new people.. when is the last time the US had an argument about who should really be starting on the pitch? Barely squeaking by? Yes. JK taking some chances? Yes. Are these squads the best the USMNT has to offer? No. JK is making sure.. come the world cup.. he knows for sure who should be on the field. Bradly hardly ever strayed from the starting 11.
@jack munn how is antigua and barbuda one of the worst teams?
Hey there Eddie Johnson, score a goal for us...
This team has done nothing since Jurgen took over. What happened to Bedoya? Adu? Lichaj? Timmy Chandler? It doesn't help that Stuart Holden is always injured, but we should be playing youngsters that have potential. The lineups under Klinsmann have been useless.
We need Lichaj, Cameron, Ream, Chandler on D. Jones, Bradley as Mids, Bedoya, Adu, Holden as Attacking Mids, and Dempsey up top at forward. Donovan may be too old to start next world cup. Shea, Kljestan, EJ, as subs. Squad of the Future
Antigua needs to get rid dem short shorts. Very pause
I'll be happy if Goodson is never called up again...
2:24, You know you are playing on the road when the ref allows the guy who scores the goal to push down the US defender in the box with not a lot of people to watch either so you couldn't miss it. Why would a US defender take a nap in the box and be laying on the ground? Can you say South Africa flashback with a goal taken away from a set peace after the referee called a US player for a foul before the free kick was take. Instant replay confirm the other team, numerously holding.
Jose Patricio thank you for enlightening us all with that captain obvious
they measured the field before the game. It's legal.
MLS players are consistently about half the team or at least they used to be.
im glad the US is winning but they have been terrible recently. i mean, look at the competition. terrible teams and we barely are squeaking by. even in the world cup in 2010 we barely got through the easiest group in the tournament. US needs to work its systems out. anyone else agree?
actually mexico did well in their recent match. MX may not be man for man better than US but the US is playing the wrong way from the youth level up. theyre starting to fix it thru the development academy, but based on my experience (i play in the academy), academy teams just use athletic players to win with long balls rather than refine the technical players. at the pro level, everyone is athletic and the US lacks technical players that can distribute to dempsey/donovan/jozy and dominate games.
injured this past weekend
nah it's just Traffic advertising the league.
Uhh cuz a guy with the last name Blackstone scored... Just like Johnson Johnson cuz he scored twice.
you don't need to move to spain to learn technical skills just incorporate it into training
SJ Represent
Relax, scraping by countries like that in away qualifiers is normal, even Mexico can attest to this. Jamaica is no pushover either. We don't have to qualify in style, we just have to qualify.
Go USA
How many times have we seen goodson get muscled to the ground. He ain't the answer in the back
Actually Mexico is a slightly better team than U.S. Either team can win depending on the day.
Yeah, like being paranoid all the time by a terrorist attack, that brings emotion to your life, no doubt
moving to spain will not make your ball control improve. ball control is something you develop as youth..
Spain are the best team in the world and still got scored on by Puerto Rico. They didn't rape them either 2-1.
Oh yeah and Davies. Are you kidding me? He's not the same player he used to be.
This is the night that Hercules Gomez lost his WC spot to EJ.
The USMNT should have done better. They almost tied to one of the worst teams in the world. They better get better defense by 2014 or they don't even stand a chance of making it to the quarter finals.
hey we make it we make I really don't care how
if Goodson didn't slip and fall Antigua wouldn't of scored that goal
