Donovan was the missing piece for the 2014 world cup..
woow!!! at first i thought this game was happened in EL Salvador. look how crowded of EL Salvador fans were there.
Gus Johnson calling these games was amazing! I wish he still did USMNT games!
His commentary was so enthusiastic and had so much flair to it. I come back to this game just for his commentary tbh
@@MundiaLizm 100%! It's one of the reasons why a quarterfinal win over El Salvador in the Gold Cup is one of my all-time favs!
I agree! I know some people thought it didn't make sense to have somebody like him calling soccer matches... But I thought it was awesome! Brought some real American flare that the game needs in this country. I wish they'd get him back. His partner in this video though... We could leave his boring self behind. That's for sure. lol.
I love how El Salvador fans thought they were back in this game after the PK lol
jsdima9113 Well they were until the rest of the goals came
jsdima9113 your a prick
I love how US fans thought they will ever defeat Mexico in football 💁
🤣🤣🤣
@@vix0426 They already have tho
Still proud to be Salvadoran!, good job guys! :D
I'm proud to be half el Salvadoran :)
@A A whats wrong. You need pain medication?
I'm part Central American, but all American
Zelaya was a tough warrior for El Salvador. sucks when a player is productive and some or the rest of the team mates dont help out or take advantage that their is someone in thier team trying to make a diffrence.
I love you El Salvador, been there many times in my life. But today I was cheering for my motherland. USA USA USA!
What's he so happy about ??? It's EL SALVADOR MOST OF THE USA DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE THAT IS WITHOUT GOOGLE EARTH
Tyler Roche lol that is true
I figured the match was fixed when at 6:30 (the fourth goal) you can obviously see that the Salvadoran goalie intentionally threw himself to the right instead of the left even though it didn't make sense since there was the Salvadoran defender defending Landon's left side. Common sense would tell you Landon was going to go toward the right knowing the defender was to his other side. I'm Salvadoran born in the US and I root for both teams but I was going for El Salvador. Sucks that these guys had to sell out but I can't blame them when they sometimes don't even get paid for these matches no thanks to the corrupt soccer governing body of El Salvador. We have the talent but what good does it do if there's corruption. Sad.
lol
Suuuure.
I mean it's kinda reasonable they don't make any kind of money and the national team has always been fucked financially
For those of you who don't know. Fifa used this match(as well as many other) for an investigation on players whom they believed sold out. After the game No. 11 told the world about the team mates who sold out the game. A few months after wards 22 players from El Salvador were banned for life, for selling out this game. On this game only 3 of the players didn't sell out. 2 of them were suspended for 18 months.
***** Actually 22 players were expelled. The goal keeper and a few other players were Expelled for Selling out this game.
Not like they would have won anyways
Fabian1355 They beat the game before this so you shouldn't be saying shii
Fabian1355 they had a bunch of chances to and if they actually made those into goals they would prob beat thwm
Jut letting you know my American friends The national team had accusations of several players purposely losing matches on purpose in exchange for monetary rewards. Some of these allegations involved games against Venezuela, Mexico, USA, and Costa Rica. After an investigation, 14 players were handed immediate lifetime bans from football on September 20, 2013. Those players were Luis Anaya, Osael Romero, Ramón Sánchez, Christian Castillo, Miguel Granadino, Miguel Montes, Dagoberto Portillo, Dennis Alas, Darwin Bonilla, Ramon Flores, Alfredo Pacheco, José Mardoqueo Henriquez, Marvin Gonzalez, and Reynaldo Hernandez. Carlos Monteagudo received a ban of 18 months. Eliseo Quintanilla and Victor Turcios received 6 month bans. Alexander Escobar, Christian Sanchez, and U-20 goalkeeper Yimmy Cuellar received a ban of 30 days. Other players were forced to go through the investigation for 20 more days. After the 20 day investigation, Rodrigo Martinez was sentenced to a ban of 5 years, Rodolfo Zelaya to a ban of one year, and Benji Villalobos to a ban of 6 months.
thank you .
Jesus... how have I never heard of this? I know I'm super late here, but do you have any English articles about this? I'd love to read more about this incident.
The majority of the Salvadoran players in this roster are suspended for match fixing. Major hint toward the 5-1 tie. Shameful on behalf of Salvadoran players, too boastful for the USMNT.
***** Look it up mang, this was one of the matches that were fixed.
***** Seriously. 25 Salvadoran players suspended for life by FESFUT and FIFA for this. It's the worst to be a Salvadoran fan.
actually no. this wasn't one of the matches. the most recent match that was fixed by el salvador was against paraguay in february 2013
***** this match wasn't fixed bro the guys who payed them were middle east people and they hate the US why would they fix us to win
Get your facts straight, the cartels originate from Singapore, not the middle east.
omg I live like 8 miles from M&T Bank and now I'm regretting that I skipped on attending this match... BUT AWESOME JOB, USA!!!
this video (in addition to a lot of the other highlight videos from 2013) shows that we could've very much used the help of Eddie Johnson, Brek Shea, Landon Donovan, and a few others down in Brazil a few months ago
I agree except for Brek, I would've included Corona
losing Altidore hurt us really bad
Danny Gutierrez Yeah, Jozy's injury really screwed us over. However, the younger players stepped up their game in his absence (Julien Green and Jon Brooks for example)
Remember it like it was yesterday my first ever live soccer game
Beasley needs to get off the team... seriously...
because of him the US doesn't get a clean sheet...
he's just a waste of space on the team
Agreed they should just play Fabian Johnson left back and put Shea, green, on the left or Dempsey on the left if the US plays with altidore and Johansson upfront
TheLoneWolf11 I still don't get why Donovan was left off the World Cup team.
He's the worst player on the team
John Rambo yet 3 years later still playing 😂😂😂😂😂mex1-1 usa
David Cartagena I blame him for Vela's goal
Whenever I see MNT I imagine it means Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Heroes in a half shell
Turtle Power!
....the world cup is much more important than the euro, and better....it's a chance for all cultures to show their best; from the Brazilian dancing, to the striding of the Nigerians, to the passing game of the Spanish, to the raw athletic ability of the Americans....it's the deep history that's shown Uruguay, Spain, Brazil, Italy, etc to be the best in the world....the euro is not "higher level", because it includes only euro countries...when you win the world cup, you are the best in the world
It's football...
Not soccer...
What if I told you people in different countries have different words to describe things? Would that blow your mind?
nop but soccer still wrong :D
ZockerLampe
no it isnt.......
ZockerLampe Thats because the most dominate sport in America is Football...
Great performance by the US. Strong win - hope they keep it up the whole way.
Rodolfo Zelaya for El Salvador - that guy was phenomenal.
Donovan is so FREAKING fast
Yeah why the fuck wasn't this explosive team chosen for the World Cup???
Its El Salvador not the world cup....el salvador is a shit team
El Salvador players sold themselves in this game. They could have beaten the pieces of shits.
C-Los el salvador sucks dick regardless
Pick on someone your own size usa ... Try to this same score with your big boss Mexico 🇲🇽 hahaahha
yea right 😂😂😂 mexico trash
@@Hello-tp3xd you do know we just won the gold cup and beat usa in the final
@@Guitar_Player94 not anymore lol
That Eddie Johnson goal was awesome. The way he just trotted on to the field... And then never even stopped as he just put the cross in the back of the net. Hilariously amazing. XD
lulll salty salvadoreans on the field and in the stands, lovin it!
Well...i can say that at first when mexico vs USA first played.. USA won 4-2...but then mexico won 7-2,5-0...and so on...but i can understand all u sayn' not to live in the past..but rubbing a passed game in our faces is living in the past too... so u all gotta get ur ideas staight. And no..i know how to write i just want to write like this so if u got a problem come and tell it to me in my face.
Talk about super subs, Eddie and Brek came out and did exactly what you want your subs to do; bring energy and confidence. It's already been said what Eddie did, but I was very impressed with Shea's passing after his pathetic game against Cuba, especially in that regard. Bring on Honduras!
usa its playing amazing soccer . world class soccer !
Zelaya played a great game. Pity he never made it in MLS or Liga MX. With the right coaching and support staff, he could have been a decent player. Point-being: don't cheat, lest you be cheated.
Look at Donovan dominate. And Klinsmann had to satisfy his grudge and leave him off the 2014 WC team and cost us a chance at the trophy.
Rodolfo Zelaya! This guy juked the entire US defensive line! And then the epic penalty! Great underrated player
I wonder why they didn't include donavon on the world cup roster. that imo was a big mistake on Klinnsman's part.
I really wished Beckerman would have scored.
The usa would destroy every single team in the competition if they had their A squad , Howard Gonzales besley besler bocanegra altidore Dempsey Bradley , etc
@Delcio AcostaThe german team from today is much stronger then 3 years ago.The 2 best german teams outclassed the spanish and english teams in the CL this year. This year we have much more potencial on each position.3 years ago we had a young, strong team, but most of the young players were just talents, and some of them wasn't on todays level. This year we have a team of CL winners and finalists, the best young players+worldclass 'older' players like Lahm,Schweinsteiger,Mertesacker.Perfect mix.
All of this teams are Cupteams, they only play on 100% in World and European cups, while EVERY team on earth playes against them with 100% because these teams are the 3 best in the world. We will see how good the USMNT really is.in WC Germany, Brazil and Spain WILL BE the topfavorites and i think these 3 will dominate. But since years there was always a 'newcomer' in the top 8. Every cup a different one. I think the US has pretty good chances to be the newcomer in 2014.

I never said Mexico was strong right now.Just supporting my fav. soccer country :) Mexico does not have any of their players that usually play for FIFA World Cup qualifying matches or that played for the 2013 Confederation Cup (except for one, Raul Jimenez). But hopefully, Mexico will start winning so more matches this year. Just to let you know, i'm not here to argue :) Not saying you are either.
USA completely bossed this game and was unlucky to not win by more than 4 goals. Though he's getting old, it's great to have Donovan back to his full potential. Corona and Diskerud are definitely looking good for the future. They were both on the U-23 team that got knocked out of Olympic Qualifying last year by El Salvador, and they both scored today. Also, EJ's goal was clutch!
BRING ON HONDURAS! THEN BRING HOME THE CUP! CMON YOU YANKS!
Mexico can't beat Argentina yet they can beat Brazil, a team that CAN beat Argentina. Don't base how a team will perform against another on rankings. (i.e. 1950 World Cup. Brazil was ranked WAY higher and had better players than Uruguay but still Uruguay found a 2-1 victory in BRAZIL and a World Cup.)
I'm Sorry, but By definition this is our B team. The entire A team is on vacation. And really only a few of the players like Donovan have experience the overwhelming majority were inexperienced national team guys and younger guys. This team had a lot of MLS players on it.
Thanks for letting us in
The best team the US had was back 4 years ago when Charlie Davis was playing and we got second place in the confederations cup. However right now it seems that we have a second chance to come with a strong team for the 2014 WC in Brazil
I wonder who do Mexicans root for when these 2 nations play each other.
usa
+Mario Rodriguez wrong they root for El tri
Humberto 3:16 none we don't give a dam fuck about Dem other hispanics
don't know which Mexico you've been watching, but recently Mexico has been having some trouble. Didn't even finish top of their group in Gold Cup, and had trouble scoring in early 2013 for qualifiers for 2014 Fifa World Cup.
Don't get your hopes up though. USA is playing against very weak teams. These semi-finals and Finals will be the toughest for USA and Mexico. But if both teams make it, Good luck to USA ;) They'll need it...
Pause at 3:41
johnson could have had his own highlight reel. he was that good. now if they can just pay with this much swagger against the best teams that would be something...
Comparre, bajele que ahorita no aplica nada de eso.
No haga el ridiculo por nuestra linda patria, se lo pido asi bien....
Poor El salvador. they made a good job, but not till the end.
He'll probably be on the national team when they fly out to Sarajevo to prep for the last Hex matches.
I love to see how USA have improve its soccer..... and I wish to see in southamerica cup in 3 more years instead of costa rica or mexico...
USA the bomb!
3:33 This is AMERICA! if you try to be all cutesie, we're gonna just gridiron tackle you
Agreed. Gus Johnson/Ian Darke are as good as it gets in English. Forget analysts. Put those two in the booth together.
Where the hell was the demolition man?? Shea?? Donavan?? Don't get it! Smh.
Mexico hasn't made a world cup quarterfinal in over 25 years...even US was there 2002
Hoping we play this well in the quarterfinal tomorrow against a less than average Cuban team.
Matt Rhodes And we did haha I kind of miss this gold cup team...they were very exciting to watch
kdrast03 Hope we have the same offense like we did against Cuba
Haha ;)
Matt Rhodes
Matt Rhodes josyli
...i'm very sad about the mexican team...they are performing very, very poorly for a solid year and their best players are not getting the job done in europe compared to record-breaking usa players....as a US fan, i want mexico to be strong, because the better concacaf gets, the more respect our entire region will get from the world...
...mexico needs a hero like they used to have in campos, hernandez, blanco, borghetti, etc...."little pea" is no leader; he's a poaching stiker (very good) only
Dude I completely agree with you as a DIE HARD USMNT Fan. I have been rooting for American Soccer since I was 4 when my Uncle took me to my first USMNT game and the true fact is that a lot of US Fans cannot simply admit how Mexico still surpasses us in Statistics even though they are at their weakest today. They clearly have four big International accomplishments like the Confederations Cup, Olympic Gold and the 2 U-17 World Cups which are still Important for the Men's Unit.
Mexico has never been a 'great' team, dude. A strictly mid-tier footballing nation, although their fans chronically suffer from the delusion otherwise.
As for the US, they're strictly mid-tier too, and has been for a while now. Both the US and Mexico have one World Cup quarterfinal to their name, although it took the US far less trips to the World Cup to make it that far than it has Mexico.
US beat Spain 1-0 in South Africa but can they do it again I don't think so. Spain didn't think much of the US so they were surprised, they didn't bother to learn how the US plays. The US scored one goal and then they waited on there side of the field the rest of the game, you cant be more mediocre than that. If you want to learn from the greats you cant hide from them. Spain just didn't care for the US and they still don't.
Very true and this much is shown whenever the USA has a big win against teams like Germany, Italy, Spain, ect. There is almost immediately haters coming on here or facebook making excuses. They are scared at how quickly the US is taking interest in this sport. Like "oh no they are starting to come around. This was the one sport we had them in". I can remember when this match would have ended 2-1 maybe 3-1 at most. This could have easily been 10-1 if not for the Salvadorian keeper.
Klinsmann has arranged for most of our friendlies to be against good teams, like Germany, 10th ranked Belgium and 14th ranked Bosnia & Herzegovnia. Last year we faced Italy, Brazil, & Russia and in 2011 it was Belgium & France.
He did his best to make us play good teams most of the time for our friendlies, the problem is we're in the Concacaf region, so in this tournament and the WCQs we have to play these weaker teams all the time with the only true threat being Mexico, as you already know.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Chris Wondolowski is in one of those slumps that most players go through from time to time. Last year, he was on a good run of form, but had little or no USMNT experience. This year, those two facts are reversed. I'd wait to say anything about him, if I were you. At least until he finds his MLS form again, and plays international soccer during a time when he has it.
The US played extremely good, but el salvador isn't a real big name team to begin with. I'm glad to see the us in attack mode rather then be a counter attack team. Before the would stay back an attack when they got the ball. Either way, real happy with the result againts my parents national team. US has to play againt costa rica, mexico, and play like they played yesterday againt those 2 teams!
I sincerely hope you're kidding about Wondo. He's a great guy, but people need to pull their heads out of their asses if they expect to see him at the World Cup. He scored five goals against absolute garbage teams and faced with a more challenging but still garbage team like El Salvador, he doesn't produce. Some people want him to START over Jozy at the WC, when EJ came in for Wondo in this game and had more of a meaningful impact in thirty minutes, and he doesn't even start over Jozy.
Yeah, this is definitely our B team team with 2 or 3 guys on the A team. You absolutely will not see many of these players come next year's World Cup. However, that doesn't mean we can't be proud as hell and shout just as loudly for the boys playing in the Gold Cup. These guys are playing OUT OF THEIR MINDS, and if they keep this up, I fully expect to see them wearing the Stars and Stripes come 2018.
First off, I love that Gus Johnson is doing soccer. Also, the USA seemed to have so many chances - they gave up some, but only allowing a goal on a PK shows pretty good defense.
You know, these guys did a study on PKs. According to their research, the goalie has a better chance if he just stands in the middle and waits rather than guessing for a side, because kickers get tight and just want to put the ball on goal.
The term B squad is officially played out. I don't understand why we just can't call them a team regardless of whose playing and whose not. This is getting sad. We won yet the cry of B teamers still looms. Kinda ashamed to be a US fan even when supposed US fans say this tourney means nothing. Without this tourney we would've never seen a Rising Joe Corona or Mikkel Diskerud. Be happy and be a real SUPPORTER!
Yes, you can. Experience level dosen't matter if there is a player better than you on the depth chart. B-team = second-stringers. Donovan isn't a second-stringer and neither is Beasley so maybe you can call this an A/B team. Still mostly B-Team though because among the total USMNT players, there is someone in front of most of these players on the depth chart. Diskerud, Holden,Beckerman can only hope to earn spots on the A-team bench. Think about it, none of them are unseating Bradley or Jones.
Peopl should stop saying that this is our "B" team because USA has some players that are old with alot of experiene. Yes i know the majority of them are young but the ones who play have experience. Im a Salvadorian American i cheer for both. I knew El Salvador didn't have a chance. El Salvador had the youngest squad with no experience only a few like 4. USA have players like Kyle that have alot of experience he was playing back then when Bob was coaching. So is not really a "B" team. I really h
our keeper was a peice of shit and he sold himself in this game, come on.
Lots of people say the EURO is better than WC, but I wouldn't assume this is true. The World Cup generally has more quality, particularly now that the top Asian, African, and North American teams are challenging with the best of Europe, and will definitely have more quality in the future given that the EURO is expanding to 24 teams.
I'm not counting Mexico out. They will still qualify for Brazil, but they aren't better than the US right now. Mexico may have more talented individual players, but the US is a more cohesive team. Anyone that knows the game would see this. The US has significantly improved under Klinsmann, while Mexico has regressed under Chepo De La Torre.
Cedar Martian you may live in mars but I live in Tijuana, Mexico I was deported last month and ever since I've been fighting the oppression. I have formed a militia we call are self's the Resistance Formed by ex -marines who where deported and Mexican ex special forces. So come to my barrio I will show how the wild bull dances. Viva le Resistance.
What do you mean "lost to Mexico multiple times" last time I checked the record between USA and Mexico since 2009 is 1-1-1. Also, since 2009 the United States teams have beaten Germany and Italy. But you know what, I feel like I am wasting my breath on someone who will not accept the fact that my country's team is decent or that he was proven wrong.
Ive seen the Blast , and AC Milan and Inter Milan , But this game was for sure the biggiest Soccer game I have been to , I have been to Baseball and Football and Hockey games , and this crowd was 110% more into it ! And us outnumbered Baltimore and the red white and blue fans really shut up those El Salvador fans and sent them home with a 5-1 loss !
thats 2009 USA has lost to Mexico Multiple times theyve gone down since 2009, and havent made a comeback, theyre making progress but real slow, and since 2009 mexico has also beaten france tied against italy the sub teams have won 3 world cups and only the womans championship has actually done something since then
My god! *sigh* I love El Salvador regardless of whatever the scoreboard says, but damn! we need to start finishing all those opportunities. El Salvador a couple of good chances for scoring, but they didn't execute them properly, those opportunities are crucial. The U.S is definitely a hard opponent but I think E.S could have done better.
Hey, you're forgetting Jose Torres (who is actually a dual-national, so it's not just a Mexican bloodline for him). And, I'm sure, some other players of whom I'm not thinking. This soccer team has American players from all over (both in terms of their personal birthplace and their ethnic heritage). Just like the United States.
I might argue about AFC--they have Ghana, who has knocked the USA out of the last two World Cups (in addition to the most recent U-20 WC), and they have several other strong teams as well (probably Egypt will now join that category--I'll root for their MNT whenever they don't play the USA because of Bob Bradley).
The u.s has gotten better because there is more mexicans on the team, even history will show that military wise Mexico is better we just have had the upper hand by having better toys but if we didn't have any advantages Mexico would win every time..im white american so im not being baised just telling it how it is...
Im happy Diskerud got his goal he has been playing really good Corona is finding his way getting involved Wondo just had a moment of shine he cant play gets lost n doesnt know what to do E.Johnson or Gordon should start Wondo to the bench. Overall good game by the USA Klinsmann and players are in the right track keep it going
Im both salvadorian and american but i wanted ES to win:(. It was tough watching this game for me. But good job to the USA team. El salvador still has a lot of work to do especially defensively and at least the people commenting on this video aren't talkin shit about El Salvador. I hope zelaya goes to mls or somewhere else
Beckerman is a b player. And the main reason it's a b squad is because of nick ramindo in goal and the l"lack" haha of chemistry that we weren't supposed to have. Beasly and Donovan were there to keep the leadership. But if we play out game I don't see a chance in someone beating us. Lets carry it to brazil!!!!!
All I hear is B team. B team. B team XD and we are blowing people out. I LOVE IT!
This Gold Cup edition was boring and easy as hell to win. I'm happy we got the championship but it was boring. Mexico sent their B team that looked more like a C team and still made it to the Semifinals but still lost which blew and Canada needs to step it up. We need stronger competition.
@filipe eduardo . They don't not really all they play is football and basketball the only reason is that they get the hispanic people who was born here and I bet who is white or black is problary european or african that's how there good cuz there not TURE american from 503
If mexico makes it to the final it's going to be one of the best of the last gold cup finals usa will be there but Mexico am not so sure is not playing well... anyway mexico vs usa its always a damn good game, just remember last final when usa went up 2-0 and Mexico end up winning 4-2
The thing I find funny is how many Mexican and Central American fans can live in this country and have no respect for it. I can understand have some national pride for your homeland but come on. You left for a reason. Respect and love the country that took you in or go back home.
Beck didn't play vs the USA and Aogo will definitely play for Germany again in some capacity - he was on the WC team after all.
But yes, it wasn't Germany's A team. Still a fun game to attend and I'm happy we won, especially since that team earlier crushed a pretty decent Ecuador side.
Because the gold cup is not as competitive as other tournaments, and its a perfect chance to allow the younger guys to play to see who should be on the WC roster, yeah a few of the guys from the "A" team play but the gold cup isnt overall that important compared to WC
I agree with all your points! But two things: 1) give him enough time and he'll eventually begin to understand the rhythm of the game. How much time? You'd hope he'd figure it out by mid-season of this upcoming...season. 2) Ian is on contract with ESPN! He'll be there for the WC, Gus won't.
I think he means that even though this is technically the "B" team, they aren't really playing like a nor are they really a "B" team with veterans like Johnson, Beasley and Donovan. We se have a lot of depth on this squad right now, something I haven't seen in years. It's thrilling.
I know that's what i said the majority are young but the ones who were playing have experienced like Eddie, Donovan, kyle . Rimando etc So what if they play in MLS they are in their 20s going to 30s and Some are in their 30s already. You can't call this a "B" having these kind of players.
Mexico is headed to your own double loses if they make it passed Panama that is
Miss Gus Johnson doing soccer
Lol Mexico lost 😂
I am brazilian, and i agree with about higher level. It is true, specially in the groups stage ate the begginning, but all that can be changed when a european country has to face a very inspired brazil or argentina in the finals. Then it gets really hard.
