    There are a lot more cases due out for 2019, but we always like to recap the best of show for Computex as a mid-year marker. For this round-up, we talk about cases by Lian Li (like the O11 Dynamic XL), SilverStone (Alta, Raven Prototype), Cooler Master's H100 mini-ITX case, some mesh cases, NZXT's H510 Elite, and more. Find individual case coverage on the channel from last week.

    This is a recap of the more noteworthy cases at Computex. There are many more cases to come this year, of course, and we've already got a line of cases coming in post-Computex for comprehensive review. Wouldn't be GN without a "most decidedly average" category for someone to win. We're traveling again this weekend, or two of us are, anyway, but we've got a queue of videos that should hopefully continue posting over the next few days.

      I'd imagine it will be very similar to the "small" one, so you could kinda predict what is going to happen. The only thing I did when I built in mine, was covering the bottom in the case below the gpu with paper to give the gpu more airflow as the air otherwise would escape before it could cool the gpu, that might be a thing they also could test :D

      Unfortunately, I think the case is getting easily dismissed because it’s so similar to the O11D. If they do a build, I’d love it if they used an EATX motherboard like the Z390 Dark, SLI 2080 Ti video cards with the vertical mount installation, something to occupy the x4 slot below the graphics cards like an Intel 905p AIC, mount a large rad 60mm rad on the bottom plus 25mm fans, and install a 60mm radiator on the top as well as the thickest radiator they can fit on the side to see what is actually possible in this case that otherwise couldn’t be done in an O11D.

      @TheCgOrion 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@REDZ28won Yep. I've been using mesh front cases since the Coolermaster Centurion, so 2006 or 2007. I prefer my systems to be cool and quiet. Have everything reasonably clocked (Just before voltage walls), and the fans thermally ramped. I might be on the more sensitive side, I'll admit. I have my 1080ti set to max of 70% fan speed, until it reaches 80C. I run it frame locked, with custom resolutions if need be (4k panel), and it never goes above 75C, but still holds 1936Mhz+. Sure I could let it whine up to 100%, but it detracts from the experience. There was a 100Mhz difference from my max CPU overclock, and the overclock before the voltage wall, running a much lower voltage and temperature. Max OC is fun to find, but not worth it for daily use. To each their own.

      @@TheCgOrion Exactly! I'm currently using a Coolermaster CM 690 III, and for the last few years I've been wondering why every manufacturer seems to suddenly love closed front panels. 200mm LED fans just look fantastic behind a mesh front, and on top of that it's excellent air flow too.

    As a fan of Lian Li cases, I'm actually quite glad they make things like the O11XL. Not every case needs to be a revelation; hell, Lian Li already does a TON of crazy-ass case designs that are hit or miss. (They are to PC Cases what SNK was to fighting games.) For some of the best Lian Li cases they just forget something here or there regarding convenience or quality of life. I was just about to buy an O11 Dynamic now that they just went back down to $120, but I think I'll hold out for the O11XL. Here's hoping they keep the same austere interior/exterior and don't simply release a vomit-inducing Razer variant state-side.

    That plastic-cloth InWin case looks good for my location: It's hella dusty in here (and it's a fine dust that gets everywhere too) and it'll be very easy to clean: Drop that plastic basket part into a water tank, throw the cloth into washing mashine and KABLOOEY - clean case. With usual steel cases i need to use a lot of wet wipes/alcohol just to make it look not dirty.

  • @cwli1
    @cwli1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just got the superb $40 Deepcool Matrexx 55. it can fit a 360mm radiator, has a glass front & side panel, has a reset button, has a full-length dust filter at the top, fits mATX, ATX & E-ATX motherboards, can fit three 140/120mm fans at the front, two at the top & one 120mm at the back. There's an inch of height behind the motherboard floor for cable management and lots of hooks for tying down twist/cable ties.
    My old case had no cable management and was bad for cooling, although I put several fans in. I put a thermometer in just above the motherboard. It was 10 degrees above room temperature. I put six fans into the Matrexx 55 and it was one degree above room temperature. However, it was very noisy. I removed two fans so it was now at the same noise level as my old case and I got 4 degrees above room temperature.
    Although the fan noise level is now the same the acoustics from them is dazzling. It's now a nice, efficient, high-speed air-flow sound whereas previously it was a dull rumble. It sounds like the engine room of a flying vehicle from the future. It's now a pleasure to put my head in front of the glass, in front of the engine room, just to hear the sound. It's like nothing I've ever heard.
    Removing the glass side panel is easy and can be done with the PC upright. To pull off the front cover use a screw driver at the bottom to prise it open.
    I was able to install a laptop hard drive into one of the two drive bays using four of the many small screws provided, which are also used to screw in the motherboard.
    The one problem is that the holes for the SATA SSDs in the casing are too big and are in slightly the wrong place.
    Don't plug its RGB molex connector into a PSU as it could cause a fire (use the motherboard's RGB connector instead if you have one). The more costly version has three 120mm fans & a PSU shroud.
    I would say at minimum four 120mm case fans are needed. Two or three at the front, one at the rear and one or two at the top. The ones at the rear and top need to blow at the holes in the case so they extract hot air out of the case.
    For silent case fans try the 120mm Be Quiet Pure Wings 2 or Shadow Wings. Ebay has many new ones. Also search ebay for“fan hub”. These provide extra 4-pin connectors for fans. You can plug a 3-pin fan into a 4-pin connector.
    th-cam.com/video/PXoDr3AevEM/w-d-xo.html is the best video I've seen for the case.
    th-cam.com/video/MVknyxSPvRo/w-d-xo.html shows how to keep your PC dust free by improving airflow.
    th-cam.com/video/my-vY6Ux6lE/w-d-xo.html shows how strong tempered glass is.

    Genuine question. First of all glad you’ve shown us cases that aren’t just NZXT and Phanteks. Do case manufacturers actually test the functionality and optimisation of case designs? A lot of modern cases are flawed in design and seems like the majority of this years cases on show were refreshes that should have been implemented on its initial release.
    I really think these companies need to explore better functionality rather than following pointless trends: All side tempered glass cases. The large mesh covers should have been an option introduced earlier-this is why the Meshify C and MeshifyS2 are my favourite cases.

With GPU's being as powerful as they are today a closed case is just asking for trouble.These cases with the mesh are just asking to be dust collectors/filter.

    I REALLY want to see both a review and a build with the Silverstone ALTA when it releases. it is by far the number one most exciting case at copmputex both for aesthetics and potential performance. Finally a case that looks like it will do well on air and with plenty of aesthetically pleasing custom loop potential. i really hope they keep the RGB translucent plastic name plate where it is.

    That H100 looks rather promising. And of course, there's nothing stopping the purchaser from simply drilling holes in the bottom and rigging up some sort of screen to make their own filtered GPU intake. I'm actually considering that already for my next HTPC build if I decide to put a GPU in it at all. I might wait another year or two to see if they end up adding a GPU intake on their own. I think it would be in their best interest to do so.

    I was so excited for the pc011 XL as I thought they would make more room for CPU coolers in the main chamber. It's such a good cooling case and I wouldove to upgrade mine from the Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi it currently has to a larger more capable air cooler but with the 155mm clearance all the big guns are ruled out. What a let down that they added room everywhere else but there.

    Lian Li Lancool II for sure. Also the O11 XL. Hopefully it comes in white. I am a bit concerned about the side intake being so far away from the back panel and if that will impact thermals. I really like those hot swap bays, but if the case is worse for thermals than the Dynamic, I'd rather just get the Dynamic and mod in the hot swap bay.

    You should really look into covering the Phanteks Enthoo Luxe 2 and definetly review it once it is available.
    With the info available on it right now, it seems to be a well manufactured case with decent airflow while having huge capacity for watercooling with 480mm and especially thick rads, storage and even a second system in the bottom. Also phanteks plans to make it a bit cheaper than the Evolv X which could make it the most appealing big tower for a lot of consumers.

      @@gazyates5228 Have a look at the Lian Li V3000. It is more expensive than the regular consumer case, but for a premium big chassis it's really not that expensive especially when compared to the likes of the InWin 915, 928, Phanteks Enthoo Elite and the Caselabs boxes. I like the idea of the Enthoo Luxe 2, but personally I'm past that faux aluminium feel and would prefer if they made the entire chassis out of aluminium instead of steel and plastic with a bit of sand blasted aluminium. Whereas the V3000 is the perfect case that slots in the middle if you want a great full tower chassis that is.

    Would love if you redid your Mini-ITX bench to be compatible with actual SFF cases. The 65W 3700X could be super interesting for that. I think for max compatibility something like a Cryorig C7 cooler with maybe a Noctua fan swap would be good. This is a very popular set up and can't think of a single case that wouldn't fit that.
    Maybe you can even do a torture test bench with something like the 16 core Ryzen part and case optimized cooling (e.g particular fan set-ups and CPU cooling), since most ITX cases don't support cooling that cpu without throttling. Gives an interesting comparison point for various cases to see how much you can throw at them.
    SFFLab showed the Sidearm T1 at computex and Sliger just released the SM550/560 with the latter supporting 3 slots and PCIe bifurcation. Those Sliger cases also have an interesting cooling set-up where you can fit a larger heatsink passively and you put an intake directly underneath the case to cool it. Not sure on the thermals but could make for an interesting content piece.

    I wonder why the 3x20mm fans at the bottom of the case is not a more widely used design. Especially with the rotated motherboard, it seems like a great solution. Are there any disadvantages, besides it needing some bottom clearance and maybe drawing in more dust than front-mounted fans?

    i would like to see if Lian Li would make the PC-011 Dynamic either broader and add mesh above the secondary compartment as well, so you could mount two 360 radiators on the top, or then make the case longer and make the mesh at the top longer too, to be able to fit two 240 radiators, so you can get the hot air out top ... or of course combine these two wishes and make it broader and longer, adding the mesh above the secondary compartment and be able to mount 4x 240 radiators, to cool CPU, dual GPUs and maybe add some exhaust fans or a third GPU radiator :) but that is probably never going to happen
