Hey Marc. I'm a professional video editor (Avid/ Adobe Pr CC etc) and I'm looking for a laptop to augment/ replace my mid 2010 mac pro. Is the 16" powerful enough to use as an edit workstation?
Recently, Adobe released a new update to utilize GUP which suppose to speed up rendering time. I have tested in my MBP 2017 and it is almost cutting the rendering time by half.
I just bought a 16" MBP last month and I love it. My only complaint about Apple's Pro line is that the RAM should be upgradable. When you pay $2,700 for a laptop, you should be able to extend the life of use with a basic upgrade.
I rather waiting the next generation, but I had to buy this one for school and I think i made a good decision. 2.3GHz 8-core 9th-generation Intel Core i9 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.8GHz 32GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory 1TB SSD storage So Excited!
Recently switched from android to iphone11. Best move i have ever made. Now i'm hooked and decided to buy the 2019 MacBook Pro 16". Still have my desktop pc for gaming but couldn't be more impressed with the MacBook. Hopefully the specs hold up for years. PEACE.
The specs will hold up for longer than you’ll probably want to keep it. Macs are known for running 6-10 years solidly as long as long as you take care of them. I know so many people still using MacBook from 2011.

Great review! I'm updating my camera gear and so have been thinking about updating from MBP Retina 2012 15" for a while. But like you every MacBook since 2012 just didn't seem worth it. This is extremely helpful since it adds more than just praise and comparing it to 2018 models.

Hi all, I am back after deep reflection over buying options : MBP 16" 2020 i9 or DELL XPS 15 2020... Initially, after listening to this video, I decided not to go for the MBP essentially because of its price and outdated design, no touch screen ... and few other small concerns with Apple choices like a shitty impractical & buggy touch bar, lack of ports and SD Card reader (so a requirement to buy a dock)... BUT BUT BUT too many complaints about quality on DELL side made me realize one thing about Apple : I have 2 mac mini's i7 quad core from 2013, 1 cinema display monitor, 1 MPB 2014 which I just sold... all these products NEVER failed me. Their quality is outstanding and price reselling value high compared to competitors. So I am back here to tell that actually, I am ordering the new MBP 2016 i9 16GB today :-) I will return here to give my feedback after few months of use. Cheers from Belgium

I just ordered a MacBook Pro 16 (i7 16GB 512gb 5300m ) but wanted to get the xps 15 9500 but living in Dubai it’s near enough impossible to get your hands on one after listening to the video and looking at the comments I’m certainly more excited and paid equivalent of $1750 brand new so for the price should be stellar ! I might keep this comment posted and see what I think after a week or so

Just put an order in for a i9 2.3, 32G RAM, 8G Graphics and 2TB Storage. First MacBook, very excited. I’ve been using a Dell G7 17inch base model for the past year and the thing with it is that it lags in Lightroom. So I bit the bullet and opted with an almost speced out MacBook Pro. Very excited. I work in music production, lighting and DJing, had been pretty happy with my 13 inch 2013 retina model until its SSD decided to die. So I had to rush to make the upgrade I've been looking into for years. And though even my base 16 inch is mostly an overkill for what I do I feel so happy to have bought the most versatile machine that will last many years of me throwing basically ANYTHING at it. Apple finally nailed it.
I followed in your footsteps and upgraded to a 16” MBP after using my 2012 for 8 solid years. It is honestly still good for photo but for video it was impossible even with SSD and 16gb RAM. The new one is a beast. Kinda wish the fans weren’t so loud but hey, performance is king 👑

Your videos are so well made! Even though I am a PC user, I decided to watch just to see what your thoughts were. It looks like Apple fixed their issues with the last one. Some stuff about the Macbook is really nice, but I don't use laptops enough to probably ever get one. I've used my MSI laptop like 12 times this year. I like my desktops.
Watching this video on my 16" MacBook Pro is such an accomplishment. I totally feel you on this one, even though I have the base model I'm really enjoying it.
Excellent review! I also was blown away with the quality of the audio. I haven't yet had a single freeze up with the touch bar (knock on wood) and the CPU is extraordinarily powerful for the form factor. The GPU is excellent as well. Overall, I'm very happy with mine. I have the same spec you bought. I use it for a few games like Civ 6, learning coding and virtualisation labs.

I would highly recommend this one. For pro use its reliable, and the next Gen laptops will probably be a bit of a risk in the reliability factor, especially for professional editing apps
Im glad this review is very personal and your personal story is similar to mine. Been rocking 2012 MBP hesitant a couple times buying the following gens and now convinced that this is the time. I just ordered mine 2 days ago. It is estimated to arrive between 9/22 - 9/24. I went with the turbo boost up to 5.0, 8 gb gddr, 64 gb memory, and the 2tb Its my first Mac. Looking forward to learning to use it coming from pc.
for this, you got a sub. I just bought my second MBP after my last one bought in 2012 stopped working. Decided to go with the base 16 inch for starting out my youtube channel. Nothing intensive to hope it works out well. This is great content and can't wait for more vids
I don't know why so many peeps complain about the touch bar - I've had it on my 13" MBPro 2018 for almost 2 years now and never had any problems with it.

Purchased this laptop today, my first Mac. I love it so far. I actually really like the Touch Bar and have not noticed any freezing yet. The audio from the speakers is out of this world!!! The quality of the bass is another level - totally surprised by the speakers. Getting used to using the touch pad - I'm planning to use Adobe PP for editing as that is what I am used to as a previous windows girl...but may switch to FCP. Thanks for the update, made me even happier with my purchase. Is there a bag you would recommend to carry this thing around?

Love this video. You were in the same boat I currently am. Have a 2014 Retina Macbook Pro and love it. Been less than impressed with recent offerings - so I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting. And early this year I had to start giving consideration to going back to Windows. Very happy that the 2020 Macbook Pro seems one worth having.

Of course there are flaws, slow panel response time and battery drain when using under load for longer than 30 minutes. This happens to all of models, I have received my second unit and it’s still having it.

I just upgraded 3 days ago from a 2014 MBP. It's probably more laptop than I'll ever need -- I'm a writer, don't do any graphics or video. But, man, I love the sleekness and the keyboard. The touch bar is silly; I'll almost never use it. My one complaint is the air vents on the bottom are extremely sharp. I'm in the habit of picking it up from the sides and sliding my hands out as a set it down. Well, day one I noticed a pretty deep cut on a finger and finally figured out it was from the air vent. It's literally like a blade. So I had to learn a new way to handle it. I don't love feeling like this super expensive device that I carry with me everywhere could slice my finger open if I don't handle it just right. I'm adjusting, but it's a real bummer; hope they fix it in the next generation.
It's sad that it's unique to get a fisher price reference now. My new MacBook Pro arrives in 3 or 4 days. I got the 8GB 5500M, and left everything else base. Love the space gray look.

The only issue I have with this computer is that when I connect to my external monitor the jet engines start and it gets super hot. It’s just a nuisance not a deal breaker I use it for work college and light gaming (Zelda, Apple Arcade, etc.) if this is in your budget I would highly recommend this computer I have the base model and there’s nothing I can’t do with it
touch bar is sweet on my new 16! i like how it adds quick shortcuts in different apps. The fact that in photos I can see all my film pics in small detail is super cool to me
I was heavily debating whether or not to get an iPad pro myself since it's such a powerful device! Ultimately the fact that it's not running a desktop OS was the only thing that held me back. It's gonna be really interesting seeing what these ARM Macs have in store 👀

Bought it but its a frying pan. Heating even while browsing. Software update fixed it a bit still hot. Running fan control apps to cool it down. Also waking from sleep will say keyboard and trackpad not found and it works after a few seconds.
I got the base i9 model on sale from Amazon about a week ago. I wanted the configuration you have but Apple didn't take the taxes off last week for tax free weekend in SC. I also have Amazon prime and I can pay for it over 18 months interest free. 16GB of RAM and 1TB is the minimum I would accept. I will mainly run Windows in Bootcamp on this machine. So far so good.Buying all the adapters to hook everything up is kind of a pain.
nice video bruv. I feel like your recommendation of importance would be backwards for music production. Processor then Ram then Storage then Graphics. My recording software hogs processing power and loads projects onto the ram. multiple displays does make it easier to work and i think graphics helps with that
Great video, New subscriber here from Ireland. Bought an entry level MBP recently. Very happy with it, a major upgrade from my 2015 MBA! I do mostly light photo / video work and it easily handles it. Agree about the touch bar, looks impressive but in reality it's a pain. I also wish they left it with an SD card slot but it's not the end of the world. I was really hoping apple would release a 14" MBP as I thought the 16" was going to be too large and heavy. It's nowhere near as portable as the 13" MBA and while l thought about getting the 13" MBP, I opted for performance over screen size and weight... A good decision so far. "Removing the touch bar will bring down the price." Sure it will bring down costs for them, but do you actually think they'd pass that savings along to us? I doubt it. Saving the consumer money is not part of Apple's business model. Also, Premiere just came out with an update to use GPU. Haven't tried it yet but I've heard great things!

It is for sure! You'll find it a hiuuuge uograde over your 2010!
Quick tip: Everytime the touch-bar freezes, just hit the function key and that solves the problem.

Yup keep the PC for gaming. Gaming on macs are a sub par experience and limiting.

Im glad this review is very personal and your personal story is similar to mine. Been rocking 2012 MBP hesitant a couple times buying the following gens and now convinced that this is the time. I went with the turbo boost up to 5.0, 8 gb gddr, 64 gb memory, and the 2tb Its my first Mac. Looking forward to learning to use it coming from pc.
for this, you got a sub. I just bought my second MBP after my last one bought in 2012 stopped working. Decided to go with the base 16 inch for starting out my youtube channel. Nothing intensive to hope it works out well.

I don't know why so many peeps complain about the touch bar - I've had it on my 13" MBPro 2018 for almost 2 years now and never had any problems with it.
I couldn’t agree more when you said “stupid touchpad”. Can apple at least give buyers an option to purchase a keyboard without touchpad?

Purchased this laptop today, my first Mac. I love it so far. I actually really like the Touch Bar and have not noticed any freezing yet. The audio from the speakers is out of this world!!! The quality of the bass is another level - totally surprised by the speakers. Getting used to using the touch pad - I'm planning to use Adobe PP for editing as that is what I am used to as a previous windows girl...but may switch to FCP. Thanks for the update, made me even happier with my purchase. Is there a bag you would recommend to carry this thing around?

Love this video. You were in the same boat I currently am. Have a 2014 Retina Macbook Pro and love it. Been less than impressed with recent offerings - so I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting. And early this year I had to start giving consideration to going back to Windows. Very happy that the 2020 Macbook Pro seems one worth having.

Of course there are flaws, slow panel response time and battery drain when using under load for longer than 30 minutes. This happens to all of models, I have received my second unit and it’s still having it.

I just upgraded 3 days ago from a 2014 MBP. It's probably more laptop than I'll ever need -- I'm a writer, don't do any graphics or video. But, man, I love the sleekness and the keyboard. The touch bar is silly; I'll almost never use it. My one complaint is the air vents on the bottom are extremely sharp. I'm in the habit of picking it up from the sides and sliding my hands out as a set it down. Well, day one I noticed a pretty deep cut on a finger and finally figured out it was from the air vent. It's literally like a blade. So I had to learn a new way to handle it. I don't love feeling like this super expensive device that I carry with me everywhere could slice my finger open if I don't handle it just right. I'm adjusting, but it's a real bummer; hope they fix it in the next generation.

The only issue I have with this computer is that when I connect to my external monitor the jet engines start and it gets super hot. It’s just a nuisance not a deal breaker I use it for work college and light gaming (Zelda, Apple Arcade, etc.) if this is in your budget I would highly recommend this computer I have the base model and there’s nothing I can’t do with it
touch bar is sweet on my new 16! i like how it adds quick shortcuts in different apps. The fact that in photos I can see all my film pics in small detail is super cool to me
You got the exact specs that I wanted. I went with the iPad Pro and waiting for their release in the fall.
I was heavily debating whether or not to get an iPad pro myself since it's such a powerful device! Ultimately the fact that it's not running a desktop OS was the only thing that held me back. It's gonna be really interesting seeing what these ARM Macs have in store 👀

Bought it but its a frying pan. Heating even while browsing. Software update fixed it a bit still hot. Running fan control apps to cool it down. Also waking from sleep will say keyboard and trackpad not found and it works after a few seconds.
I got the base i9 model on sale from Amazon about a week ago. I wanted the configuration you have but Apple didn't take the taxes off last week for tax free weekend in SC. I also have Amazon prime and I can pay for it over 18 months interest free. 16GB of RAM and 1TB is the minimum I would accept. I will mainly run Windows in Bootcamp on this machine. So far so good.Buying all the adapters to hook everything up is kind of a pain.
I haven't had the touch bar freeze yet.
nice video bruv. I feel like your recommendation of importance would be backwards for music production. Processor then Ram then Storage then Graphics. My recording software hogs processing power and loads projects onto the ram. multiple displays does make it easier to work and i think graphics helps with that
Great video, New subscriber here from Ireland. Bought an entry level MBP recently. Very happy with it, a major upgrade from my 2015 MBA! I do mostly light photo / video work and it easily handles it. Agree about the touch bar, looks impressive but in reality it's a pain. I also wish they left it with an SD card slot but it's not the end of the world. I was really hoping apple would release a 14" MBP as I thought the 16" was going to be too large and heavy. It's nowhere near as portable as the 13" MBA and while l thought about getting the 13" MBP, I opted for performance over screen size and weight... A good decision so far. "Removing the touch bar will bring down the price." Sure it will bring down costs for them, but do you actually think they'd pass that savings along to us? I doubt it. Saving the consumer money is not part of Apple's business model.
Also, Premiere just came out with an update to use GPU. Haven't tried it yet but I've heard great things!

Don't like the silver color and the huge clickpad. Not to mention you cannot upgrade anything in a Mac.
I have been contemplating buying the new 16" spec'd to the MAX - specifically for use with Davinci Resolve 16 - Yes I need to be Mobile! This review has concreted my decision.
