CHIANG MAI, THAILAND - We were driving around Southern Chiang Mai, actually in a city south of Chiang Mai city, known as Hang Dong, and stopped at a small local restaurant for some Thai Jay - or Thai vegan food. The owner really warmed up to us, at first was a little shy, but then was really nice to us as we ordered a bunch of food! #veganfood #ThaiVeganFood #ChiangMai
King Liew Restaurant (กิ่งหลิว อาหารเจ) - The restaurant is called King Liew Restaurant (กิ่งหลิว อาหารเจ) and it’s just a very small laid back street food style restaurant. You go to the front, and check out all the different Thai dishes available for the day - including fully plant based / vegan Thai food - mostly curries and stir fry dishes, and some Northern Thai food.
Each dishes costs just 10 THB ($0.32)!
I ordered:
Tomato chili dip
Massaman curry
Taypo curry
Mushroom mix
The food was delicious, simple and tasty - full of flavor and Big on Spice! Of course I added some extra chilies and soy sauce to increase the spice level. But I loved the mellow flavors, and the freshness of each dish. Fantastic Thai vegan food when you’re in Chiang Mai, and a very laid back place.

What touches me most is how affordable the food was and how friendly the man was. You don’t get this kind of joy at most expensive restaurants.
what make Mark my fav food show is because he someone that truly love food and make a show to share the experience with us. Other people just want to have a show by using food. That why Mark never say any bad food because he understand diff people have diff taste.
Thank you Mark - that is my philosophy, is that we all have such different tastes, and it's so subjective - so for me what I like to do is share the experience, ingredients - and anyone can then decide if they might like it or not. Hope you're doing well!

Very interesting. When Mark said *_Jai_* essentially means vegan I thought he was at a *_Jain_* restaurant but then I saw the potatoes. Jain cuisine restricts onions, garlic, potatoes and all root vegetables because the plants eventually die. Those who practice Jainism do not eat honey in order to not disturb bees. Similarly, Jain chefs must close their restos at dusk because artificial lights unnecessarily attract insects. And since fermentation involves living organisms Jain restos don't serve beer and wine. 😳😀 All this said, love an all vegan meal. Everything looked quite tasty. 👍
