This video begins an ultimate Thai food tour of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Get ready for some incredibly delicious Northern Thai food!
Khao soi (ข้าวซอย sometimes khao soy), or curry noodles, is one of the most popular Thai dishes in northern Thailand. It has a very unique history and though details are not completely known, most say that it originally was brought from Yunnan, China through Myanmar, adapting along the way, and finally reaching Chiang Mai, where it’s become of the iconic foods. In Thailand though, is where the dish accumulated coconut milk, which is found in most version now.
What is khao soi (ข้าวซอย)? Khao soi (ข้าวซอย) typically includes yellow egg noodles of some form, which are combined with a meat - usually beef or chicken (and I typically order beef as much as I can) - topped in coconut milk curry sauce, and finally sprinkled with coconut cream, and finally topped with crispy fried noodles.
There’s a massive debate over who serves the best khao soi in Chiang Mai, and I don’t think it will ever be resolved because everyone has a different taste. But along with the help of my friend Tom (from Chaseki tea shop in Chiang Mai: / chaseki.tea ) and Joel, we set off to eat 5 bowls of khao soi in a row to share with you what we think is the best khao soi in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Here are the restaurants we ate at:
    1. Khao Soi Islam (ร้านข้าวซอยอิสลาม goo.gl/maps/2WNVa3wKLkA2) - This is a longtime restaurant serving khao soi in what is known to be quite a traditional version. It’s a Halal restaurant, and their beef is amazing, but the curry is quite mild in spice.
Price - 60 THB ($1.82) for big bowl
    2. Khao Soi Khun Yai (ร้านข้าวซอยคุณยาย goo.gl/maps/aRbmm7qkm3S2) - Next we went to Khao Soi Khun Yai (ร้านข้าวซอยคุณยาย), what was many years ago one of my favorite bowls, but this time?
    Price - 40 THB ($1.22) per bowl
    3. Khao Soi Loong Prakid Kad Gom (ข้าวซอย ลุงประกิจกาดก้อม goo.gl/maps/MhZKa5Thyew) - Many locals from Chiang Mai recommended I check out Khao Soi Loong Prakid Kad Gom (ข้าวซอย ลุงประกิจกาดก้อม), and it was amazing. The size, and the taste were spectacular.
    Price - 40 THB ($1.22) per bowl
    4. Khao Soi Mae Manee (ข้าวซอยแม่มณี goo.gl/maps/RycqaMT87B12) - About a 10 minute drive from the center of Chiang Mai we found ourselves in a neighborhood for our fourth bowl of khao soi at Khao Soi Mae Manee (ข้าวซอยแม่มณี). The Aunty was so friendly and I watched her as she assembled our bowls, amazing.
    Price - 40 THB ($1.22) per bowl
    5. Khao Soi Mae Sai (ร้านข้าวซอยแม่สาย goo.gl/maps/otMCykopQjr) - Finally, to end this best khao soi tour of Chiang Mai we went to Khao Soi Mae Sai (ร้านข้าวซอยแม่สาย), what is one of the most popular restaurants to eat khao soi in Chiang Mai.
    Price - 50 THB ($1.52) per bowl
Make sure you watch the entire video to find out the best khao soi in Chiang Mai!
    Happy New Year!

Coz they cooked Khao Soi in the different way. The traditional mathod is the coconut cream SHOULD be added with the chili paste and simmering under low eat with the beef or chicken for almost hour. This method on the video is totally wrong according to the Northern history cookery book, wrong type of noodle, the soup isn't thick and creamy enough as it should be.
However, Khao Soi it's not Islamic food, so this eatery may wanna make it more unique to be different to notice, other recipes of their are different from northern food either.
(However, Southern food is more well-known about Islamic food).
For other local Lanna Khao Soi are original. If you visit CM, better look for the Khao Soi from the real Lanna people's eatery.
Kao Soi Mea Manee is very famous.

    • @yecly
      @yecly 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@beautifulvillian405 mmm, the islamic part depends on the preparation of the food to me. It can be the same recipe, just swap the pork with chicken, like that.
But if you are talking about the southern Islamic *community,* then yes. They have their own method of cooking. More curry-ish, and more to the sweeter side.

Sorry, what you explained it's not about what I mentioned.
First, Lanna's Khaw Soi usually cook with chicken, not pork. It's nothing about Islamic.
Second, about chicken or beef those aren't be simmered in coconut cream, wouldn't provide enough good flavor as it should be.

I am so happy to see you are in Chiang Mai which is one of my most favorite destinations as well as Luang Prabang, Laos.
Chiang Mai is so beautiful with a lot of green, Thai cultures, and really really friendly people. That's why many foreigners such as Europeans, Americans, Australians, even Chinese, Singaporeans, and Japanese fall in love with this beautiful city.
Sunday Walking Street is one of the best street markets in the world.

Hi Mark, I have been watching your videos since the India visit and I haven’t missed a single one since . I am currently in Krabi as part of my 3rd visit to Thailand and will be finishing my visit in Chiang Mai. I couldn’t believe my luck when you posted this video because not only are you trying out dishes in an area I am visiting in the next week, but also, Khao Soi is my ultimate favourite Thai dish 🙌 We are staying just a mile and a half away from number 3 so I will be making a visit based on the above video ! Thanks for making your wonderful content x

I made it to Khao Soi Loong Prakid Kad Gom today for Beef Khao Soi . It was a truly authentic experience with the most delicious Khao Soi dishes . We ordered the beef and the lovely old man served it in 2 giant bowls . I didn’t add too much more chilli as it was already nice and spicy and as we ate, chickens ran around at our feet ! On our way there , we also called in to the Chaseki tea house and we were served Macha by your buddy Tom. This was our first Macha experience and it was wonderful ! Tom was really helpful and taught us how to drink it correctly . Excellent Recommendations as always Mark ! ❤️🙏🙌

There are many places which have friendly people, and tasty food in the world. Pakistan is one of them, and Thailand is also same.
Please open your eyes and don't think only one place or country is good. Mark introduces many cultures and food.

Put it this way - You can leave Pakistan but Pakistanis never leave you loll.. they are clingy but in a good way..
I do get your point though, some of the guys here need to curb their excitement and respect and appreciate other cultures and countries.. It's impolite trying to act superior when likes and dislikes are relative. You won't see a Chinese saying - yes, Pakistan is better than China and vice versa.

    • @sg3561
      @sg3561 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@j_sr3608 i agree with you, this is a new thing for us to celebrate Pakistan in a positive way, so the excitement is quite obvious, thanks to international media especially Indian media who portrayed us so bad, we will eventually able to learn how to curb excitement though, don't worry. Thank you for listening to me.

    • @sg3561
