Great maiden flight! I looks like a challenging plane to fly, but cost-wise, it's not too bad...but I do have one bone to pick. That RC plane is not just a Hornet, it's a Super Hornet. The easiest way you can tell the difference between the two is by the air intake. On the Hornet, they are rounded, but on the Super Hornet, they are square. Also, it's not just the Super Hornet, but the two-seater F/A-18F variant for training pilots. This is, indeed, the plane they used for the Top Gun: Maverick shots of the pilots. For the filming, they had a real F/A-18 pilot in the front, and the actor in the back seat so when you see G forces, those are real G forces the actors are experiencing. For the outside shots, it's the single-seat F/A-18E version. I hope to see the film sometime this week in IMAX!
The Royal Canada Air Force flies the original Hornet, in both the CF-18A and the CF-18B versions, which are based upon the US Navy variants with upgrades like beefier landing gear. The Hornet CF-18/B variant has a longer canopy with room for a second pilot and can be used for training. One distinctive feature of Canada's Hornets is the "false cockpit/canopy" painted on the underside of the CF-18s designed to confuse enemies during a dog fight. I believe that the US Marines also do the same for their A-10s.

Hi, just finished repairing mine when I saw your video. Watched top gun last night at cinema....and crashed it this morning. Must say it is much easier to hand launch than the f16. I use 1300mah 3s battery, low rate throws with 25 percent expo. Also it it quite robust. My crash was totally my fault and it nosed into ground quite hard....but it broke off the front cleanly and did not compress the foam. Hot glued back on, bit of paint and good as new. This was my sixth flight and rest were fine. Happy flying, andy in UK.

I certainly know about deer and airports. We were repositioning a real airplane, a Gulfstream GIVSP when 6-7 deer ran directly in front of us at about 140 mph. I was in the right seat watching the gauges and calling the speeds when the other pilot said “ Oh shit”. Something you don’t want to hear at 140mph. I told him to pull up , pull up and he did but we did hit one. I really thought we made it over them. Tower informed us there was a dead one on the runway. When we landed at a close by Gulfstream repair facility we discovered that one of the two left main gear tires was flat. A 10 ply tire rated to 195 knots. The deer won.

@@flyingfortressrc1794 I don’t think your friend in the crop duster would have to be told if he hit one. Everything seemed completely normal when we were airborne. I cycled the gear several times and asked the flight attendant to come up front and tell us if she noticed anything different about the takeoff? She was sitting directly over the main gear. She said no. We had 20,000lbs of fuel onboard but were able to land without exceeding max landing weight. But both wheels and tires had to be replaced on the left main gear if one goes flat. And inspect both wheels for structural damage.
@@flyingfortressrc1794 The next time I was at that airport I told the tower how one of our tires went flat. He said even though there’s a 10’ fence surrounding the airport they regularly have deer crossing the runway. And many incidents.

Been flying this with 1500 100c batteries for a while and it’s my go to plane at the moment as it’s very discrete, sounds great and Tom Gun relevance :) I also made the ailerons in flaperons and really helps slow the plane down. However, the first one I purchased the engine ripped out during first flight and lost everything as I was flying over the ocean. I suggest removing the small plastic strip that holds the ESC in place because it’s not held on good and if it comes off during flight it will go through the motor. Also, tighten the nut screw for the fan as it was a bit loose.
Please tell me,i have the same battery 4s 1500mah/100c...Where is located from note,to have the CG right?! 55mm CG from leading edge?!?!?!
@@Sandokans the battery needs to go as far back as it can. I had to trim a bit of foam off the bottom of the canopy so it would close properly.
What jet type plane would you recommend for beginners? Less than $500

@@TheRcSaylors Yeah I’ve seen it fly on 4S on other videos. Although I’m not happy with the CG using 2200mah so I’ll get some 1300mah and try that instead.

Would this be a decent plane for someone who has flown an RC plane a couple of times but never had a plane themselves? (I know you said it isn’t a great beginner plane) The price is very appealing including the price of a battery and transmitter

All the ones I can find are only kits. and they seem to be ARF bare bones I don't even think they have servos. which is fine I bought it for spare parts( havnt gotten it in the mail yet) the spare parts are for my old Skyangels f 18 hornet which is exactly the same jet(discontunued). If you are looking for a battery this will take nothing bigger than a 3s battery so aim for something like a 12-1800mah 3s battery. not sure about the radio but I fly it on a NX10 spectrum.

My first impression was it's a decent size jet, and it is, but then watching it fly my impression changed to they have to go up to 80 or 90 mm. SAFE mode comes down to whatever RX you are using. Servos installed, needs your own RX 👍😁😎⚓️

The Hobbyzone Sport Cub S 2 comes ready to fly and it’s a great beginner plane to learn on. As far as a controller, it comes with one but it’d be smart to buy a better one that has a larger memory and can bind to multiple planes. I’d say if you’re interested in rc planes to get the Sport cub, and then if it’s something you’d like to continue and buy bigger and better planes, then you should get a new transmitter. A good transmitter that’s easy to use and has a lot of resources to learn from is the Spektrum Dx6. I use that transmitter for most of my planes and it works great. It’s a little bit expensive but but I’d say it’s a good investment.

Looking for a beginner plane, for someone without the greatest eye sight, but not blind or anything. So first time flyer, looking around 75 bucks, he wants a jet and 3 feet long, told him he likely won't get either for that budget but i'm no expert, and haven't flown myself in 10 years. His eventual goal is an f22 80mm edf.
No don’t get a jet first you will crash you need a slow flyer like a Cessna and after a lot of flying then you should go with a fast on I recommend a jet as a 3 to 4 plane after like a year of flying
@@No-rh6zp not6 for me , not my choice, but also think a year or 3 planes is kind of redic. You fly every day for about 3 months, with a trainer plane, then upgrade to something with SAFE and stability control, as well as a RTH feature, and you'll be fine as long as you don't go for something fast.

@@TheRcSaylors it's marketed as 3s but this thing is a rocket on 4s. Easily faster than the eachine F-16 ever was 😎🤙
Over 20 flights on 4s. 0 issues at all. Just have to make some cuts ✂️ to the canopy and slide the battery about a half inch from the back. I use the bottom front magnetic straps as the cg point and it works flawlessly
I put the battery lead facing forward and then tuck the esc lead right along side the battery. It's snug as a bug on a rug but it works great. No velcro needed. I do however apply some tape across the back of the canopy to insure I don't lose it on high speed passes which are easily 100 mph

Where is your CG? I bought the kit. The instruction manual says 110mm from the leading edge of the wing, but that puts it further back than I was expecting.
