      You are a dumb idiot, all you here when you Toyota nutters are talking about car is just love the awesome power of the diesel V8, but it doesn't have ever adequate power, this test proves it but you now it's not meant to be a fast car, well it certainly it's that, it's got less power and torque than most 4 cylinder utes on the market.

    The land cruiser is not meant for speed and you guys should understand that not all vehicles are made purely for speed but instead look at the torque the cruiser is a tough rugged vehicle tested on the very bad conditions it has done well.In terms of durability it stands out top's those that have this vehicle will agree with me. You will never go wrong with this vehicle

    • @Loribyn
      @Loribyn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep. Plenty of vehicles will get you there; but as we say in Australia, a LandCruiser will get you home again as well. :)
      (But on that, I have no trouble getting excellent speed and 'performance' right outta the gate with my ol' girl, _and_ she's been to hell and back. She's 30 yrs old, with 300,000+ on the clock, but on the HWY I'm still getting 10L/100 just like when she was new; in 5th she can overtake a road-train without breaking a sweat, and she's still going strong).

    • @raywj1fan
      @raywj1fan 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the 4 cylinder 2.8 hilux makes more torque, 450NM with an auto and 420 with a manual as opposed to the 4.5 V8 which makes 430, the 4cyl has better fuel economy, 8.9L/100km with the v8 having 11.9L/100km. Its sad to say but the v8 isn't that good

    • @JackFN_VR64
      @JackFN_VR64 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      raywj1fan
      The engine is not tuned for high power, it's tuned for reliability and longevity. The V8 with twice the amount of cylinders and 1.7lt extra displacement is not working as hard and is less stressed than the 2.8, thus less wear & tear. A chip alone can easily jump an extra 100nm.
      Fuel consumption is not only determined by the engine, the aerodynamics, weight, tires, gearbox and differential ratio of the vehicle also come into play. Sorry to say but 11.9L/100KM in a pickup truck with the aerodynamic coefficient of a brick, 5 speed manual gearbox and a high final drive ratio for hauling and towing, is excellent.

    • @raywj1fan
      @raywj1fan 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Who is to say the V8 is not working as hard and will have less wear and tear? Sure you can tune it for more power, just means that it has more stress on top of what could be an already heavily stressed engine. 11.9L/100KM might be good on a pickup? well sure but if you can get better economy with more power on a smaller engine on a cheaper vehicle whats the point of the land cruiser?

    What is the point of this engine?

    • @hamishmay1917
      @hamishmay1917 8 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Mate, they may be slow but we use the 70 series on our cropping farm towing 3+ tons of fuel each and every day during harvest and seeding. They just keep on giving without any issues for years on end. Hilux's and Ford Ranger's claim good towing tonnages but they don't stand a chance doing the heavy work day in day out. Its actually cheaper spending a little more on a land cruiser as it will be cheaper in the long run.

    • @JackFN_VR64
      @JackFN_VR64 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah people miss the point of this pickup completely.

    • @JackFN_VR64
      @JackFN_VR64 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      The point of that engine is reliability and longevity whilst having 'enough' power to do the job. Sure there are turbo diesels with less displacement and fewer cylinders, but with the 1VD-FTV you have a big lazy V8 that is barely working so that it will last 100's of thousands of kilometers in the worst conditions.
      If you think 151kw and 430nm is bad, you should see the Land Cruiser with the normally aspirated 1HZ 4.2lt 6 cylinder diesel engine - 96kw and 286nm at the crank. Terrible performance, but that engine will outlive you as long as you change the oil when it should be changed.

    Wait ... what?!
    My old LC is 30 years old; only 3.4 L, not 4.5; only an inline-5, not a V8; and only naturally aspirated, not turbo ... and it gets much better 'performance' than this, despite significantly lower power (85kw; and 230Nm at 2500 rpm)! She sounds like she's got a lot more grunt too -- this thing sounds like a Hyundai in comparison!
    In short, Toyota what the hell have you done to your engines?!
    Edit: and you cannot tell me it's max Q is 113.9 kph!? No way! I've had my ol' girl up to 100 _miles_ per hour ~ 160kph (in the NT where there were no speed-limits), and she was *not* red-lined, nor anywhere near it. I am by no means an automotive expert nor professional driver, but something doesn't add up here.

    • @Jez3134
      @Jez3134 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The difference you're not seeing is the v8 makes 400nm flat line from idle all the way to its redline, it's got torque everywhere. That max speed was over a quarter mile (400m), its the standard length of a drag race. Obviously it will keep accelerating having 2 gears left to go through.

    These Toyota 79 series cars are the most over rated over priced buckets of rubbish. But the silly Toyota buyers are told by Toyota it's good value, so to them it must be. The power and torque figures of these 4WD's are just terrible and just look at the interior, it's laughable. At this price no auto trans available, aircon is an option and you got to spend a fortune on them to get them to a reason off road standard and they are a very poor tow vehicle to boot, waste of money.

    • @lewiedewymountaindewy
      @lewiedewymountaindewy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 79 series is built for reliability for the bush. Out on the farm we have Landcruisers that have lasted since 1994 left out in the sun to rust. The Toyota Landcruiser 79 series is one of the most rugged cars you can buy. It isn’t meant for as much power as possible.
