      Oddly enough, I think Axl sings the Bon songs better than Brian Johnson. His voice is a better match to Bon. All 3 are legends though!!!

      Angus jumped into the crowd,,playin his guitar then went riding on the shoulders of a paid spectator.

      If you've never seen it, I highly recommend you check out AC/DC's 1977 performance in London. It's freakin' amazing. The whole damn set is intense on this level. I was born in '73. So, I have no attachment to their material from that era. In fact, before seeing that set I wasn't familiar with most of the songs.

      Jailbreak _79 Their prime was 1977-1983 that’s why I hate when people say Brian Johnson was the reason ACDC stopped being good after 1983. It just so happens 1983 was already 8 years of playing for ACDC you should understand a band loses its spark of amazing song after amazing son after 8 years of straight bangers.

    Christmas 1985. It was my first year as a 12 year old metal head and my parents, while not exactly happy with my new musical direction, bought me this concert on VHS video. Over the years, I watched it so much that I actually wore it out and the tape snapped. So thank you Mum and Dad, (both now sadly departed), for making my first metal Christmas one that I will always remember.

    The genius of this song is to let the chords ring, with feedback and all. This the sound of lightning. You try a new guitar and amp, play that song as loud as the clerk lets you and you will know if power is delivered, you will feel it. RIP Malcolm, a true guitar hero.

    • @mifune9634
      @mifune9634 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's a powerful thing, but it's also scary as a guitarist. Especially in bands with a single guitarist, it's easy to feel like you're not doing enough to stay interesting. I was recently showing my niece my electric guitar. I can play some pretty technical stuff, but what really connected with her was this sort of ringing chord stuff. Specifically played Led Zeppelin's Rock and Roll, and VH's Runnin' with the Devil for her. This song is another great example.

    • @haythijs
      @haythijs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      This can’t be played loud enough. Everytime I hear this one, I want to move the volume to ‘ are you nuts.’ But I guess oldskool AC/DC has that kind of influence to me, same as the early Van Halen. Both need to be heard louder than the last time.

    • @markrowland858
      @markrowland858 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The back rhythm is everything to any rock song. Malcolm's Gretch was vital to the sound of ACDC, and without it, it's not the same. Wholw others strum,, Malcolm dug into those chords like a punch in the face. And with Angus' stage antics, proved to be the vision of what Malcolm's play would look like in real time

      not this great but great .
      When they hit that pause and let it feed back hold and drop back into the riff it’s surely a come to God moment. These sound waves are still traveling through space and time somewhere . ✊🔥

    For whatever reason, it took me a long time to really appreciate how great this song is. Always liked it, but didn't think of it among their very best songs. One day, driving around, I had it louder than usual (must have been the first warm, sunny day in awhile). Like with a lot their songs, they really need to be turned up louder than you're almost comfortable with. At that range, all sorts of little revelations reveal themselves, and for me, it was especially true of this song.
    High Voltage is such a good rock album. I think Malcolm might have still been tinkering with a signature sound at that point, so you can hear other little riff influences that you don't hear on the later albums as much. At times, especially after Bon, a lot the the output can sound similar, and with this album it's a slightly different take of AC DC, still as great as anything else. Probably my 2nd favorite after Powerage.

      Sooooooooo true. I’ve been listening to Bon era AC/DC since around 1979 and even now (2021) I still hear ‘new’ bits within songs that I’ve never picked out before - to me it shows just how skilled they are.

    Nobody can touch Bon as a frontman. Brian was good but Bon is in another room.

      I prefer the Bon area above Brian his time, in my opinion their biggest classics were made in Bon his period. Also I like his voice above Brians.
      But not to take anything away from Brian. Brian is the ultimate example of replacing such an iconic and beloved frontman Bon was. His first contribution at Black in Black is still one of the biggest selling albums ever, he always had a great time during their shows and made me laugh with his enthusiastic performance. He did it in his own way and that was a great one!
      All hail to Brian for me, but Bon....man he was outrage!

      Otie Jason hits don’t count for me as a standard. Is that would be the case, current hits would be a high standard also. What is left, is the music itself. I prefer Rock&Roll Damnation, Rifraf or Hell aint a bad place above most of the Brian area.
      And lets face the facts, during the concert almost 50% is Bon area and Back in Black and those classics work much better than most of the recent albums, apart from Thunderstruck. So there is the reason. Your reason is just hits?

    Saw this for the first time when I was 12 years old in 1990 on VHS and was instantly hooked. I still think this is on the coolest opening performances of any concert I have seen. The build up, Angus coming down, then boom that riff and him running around.
