@@allenrichiez930 Truck driving is probably the occupation with the most experienced workforce. I have 1 1/2 years but the one that taught me how to drive was my dad's cousin. He turns 56 this year and has 37 years behind the wheel. He owns his own company with 4 trucks (all rigid chassis with hooks to change gravel beds, machine beds or asphalt tubs) and 3 trailers for them. A 2018 Scania R580, a 2020 Scania R650 a 2020 Scania R660 and a 2012 Scania R490. The last truck is the only remaining truck from his old fleet of 6 trucks (2x 6-series R580, 3x 6-series R730 and the R490)

I drove a 367 with similar colors, the fenders were a metallic brown. It was originally a set up as a slam bam transfer truck, but my boss made it a truck trailer to haul roofing tile. It was a shorter wheel base than most truck trailers and had no air ride, so it was very choppy, but it was a good little truck for driving in housing tracts and delivering cement roofing tile to new and remodeled homes. That is a beautiful truck you have, I never got to drive a 389, drove a couple 367 and a 359, but no Cadillacs….nice truck, glad you can enjoy it.

I ran a 1992 with a 3406C for 3 years to get me going . It was a beautiful old truck and ran me good . That said it had its wants and needs as all older trucks will . Ordered my 21’ last fall before the covid had its grips on truck sales . Took delivery of it in Feb, with the lack of down time and the just GO EVERY DAY reliability so far . The 21’ is on pace to make me and extra 50k gross this year … makes those payments look a lot easier with that kind of results ! Good luck Driver ( I went paccar 510 ) just because of the weight , I will subscribe to your channel just to see updates on the X15

@@mikeshultz1007 hey Mike, why is that ?

    • @mikeshultz1007
      @mikeshultz1007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@nicksmith7552 There is a couple reasons as to why it affects value. One reason is that larger fleets buy the vast majority of paccar powered trucks and with all of the problems with newer trucks so they are dumping them with around 400,000 miles on them, 10-15 years ago large fleets would dump them with just under a million miles on them. So there is a constant supply of trucks less then 3 years old on the second hand market. Large fleets only buy new trucks so the only people who are going to buy those used trucks are owner operators or very small fleets. Since they make the paccar engines and transmissions they do not have to source them from cummins which is more expensive. They can also sell paccar powered trucks cheaper due to future revenue from parts and services on those engines. Owner operators chose trucks for different reasons then fleets. With large fleets they only care about 3 things and those are lowest possible purchases price, lowest fuel consumption and warranty since they are going to get rid of them not long after the 3 year 300,000 mile warranty is over. Since there are fewer cummins powered trucks they command a higher price and owner operators and small fleets are going to keep them as long as they still make money.

Daaammmmnnn. All the bells and whistles. Enjoy it man. The only thing I wish you would have added to the video that you can do in another video is WHY you chose that truck over a volvo or cascadia or kenworth or international? Your situation may not match ours but the process of how you chose it can be insightful in helping others to pick the best truck for them. Trucks are built for specific kinds of hauling, so adding what you plan on hauling that matches the 280 would be good for new drivers/viewers to learn too. I bet that thing is gonna be smooth as silk cruising down the road with the long wheelbase and extra power.

I've only driven in the Army. Don't even have my CDL. However, that time has come and this is what I've concluded:
Most old school drivers shun the idea of a newer rig. For their own respective reasons. But mainly because of eLogs.
If you start out on newer rigs, with or without eLogs I guess, Would y'all agree that it will make acquiring a CDL and maintaining employment with said CDL easier?

If you drove large heavy trucks in the Army talk to the DMV. A few friends of mine who drove HET's for the Army walked into the DMV with their Army paperwork and walked out with a CDL. Worth a shot and can save some headache since you have the experience. Keep in mind this is a decade ago and laws could've changed. Best of luck!

I have driven 379's many times ....the company I currently work for just purchased 6 brand new 2022 389's ....the first just arrived today . My 389 will arrive in about 6 to 8 weeks from now . I am very excited to get into my new 389 !! I just subscribed to your channel and I can't wait to see your videos of this BEAUTIFUL Pete :)

Hey nice rig just a FYI I’m on my 3rd 389 the first one I had I always did what you just did and opened the hood by the fenders… bad mistake it puts a lot of stress on the rivets and the fenders start to sag over time I learned the hard way lol but hey it’s your truck

Greetings from the Ohio Porters.🇺🇸 I come from a family of truckers…Dad started trucking in the 1930s. I have 2 brothers who have been trucking for quite some time. Even my 2 boys like trucks. When it gets into your blood watch out! 🤩🥰 This Pete looks so sharp! I hope and pray that it works out well for you. A new truck is always a treat. I drove aT2000 a few years ago and loved it, but that’s it as far as KW is concerned. I own a IH 9670 that I hope to haul grain with in the future. Looks like you haul just about anything. That’s good. Enjoyed the walk around. Does it have a 13 or 18 speed? Sweet ride! 🥰✌️

Beautiful.... just curious on your thoughts about no headache rack ? I started in 83 , back then, nobody would drive a tractor without one. I see lots without these days.

Here is a thought for you just in case you get stuck some where and you want to have a shower and change of cloths it would be nice to have a couple of changes in that closet. Get a inverter under the bunk then you can run 110 volt things like a { t/v } or a drill

    Hello Young Trucker.
congrats & good luck with your business and yes, I do like the conventional Peterbilt's too, the last one
I drove was (more than likely before you were born) in the mid-80's and did did have a 425 -CAT with a 13 speed and yes, it ran like the devil too.
The only Cummins I drove back then was in a cab-over, which couldn't get out of it's own way and the only rpm you could use was ~1.300 to 1,800 or so while the CAT let you play from below 1,100 up all the way to 2,500+ rpm.
At about the same time I had to use one of the first "Ant Eaters" with a 350 HP engine and a nine speed
and no, I did not like to drive it too much even though it almost did turn around on a dime - sort of speak.
The only thing on your new truck I don't like is that you have too many computers in it and, if I'm not
mistaken, you can't run on more than one log book, what we had to do all the time to get things done
having the 55 mph speed limit back then.
Take care & put the hammer down!
