My heart broke for Tom, you could literally see his whole mood change when he couldn't grip the stones. I'm chalking it up to the tacky issue that a lot of the athletes were dealing with. Such a bummer
@@mihailopopovic4759 He went for the heaviest stone, couldn't get it, probably because it was new and slippery like Lucas mentioned. So he had to drop down to the 550 stone, but by that time he'd already expended a lot of energy trying to get the 600 pound stone and couldn't get a proper grip on 550 either but kept trying till he ran out of time. in contrast, Thor went for the lightest stone first because so many had zeroed by going to heavy at first. Then after getting that he went to 550 and did two reps to win the event.

Great recap video! Judging is always subjective but I’m glad you explained the rule and took the high road. Your positive upbeat recap earned a sub. You showed a lot of character today despite some setbacks. Give it hell tomorrow!
Been following your journey since the Arnold’s UK. Was in the Blue Arena for your podium finish at SMOE. Massive Congratulations! Can’t wait to see where your career goes and continues from here.
When you guys don’t hit lifts, I’m gutted for you, as I’m sure many fans are. You athletes honestly handle it better than the fans 😂. Was some very shocking results day 1. Overall, tough day, great show so far.
Completely robbed on your second pull. You got a clear down call from your forward facing judge. And Ed changed from a thumbs up to a thumbs down. Thats nonsense. You're an absolute gentleman for accepting it with the grace that you are.
devils advocate here. Maybe the down signal wasn't given to indicate a good lift, but simply to indicate to put it down because it was never going to be a good lift. You can't really let people stand there for a minute wondering why they're not getting a down signal.
I agree, changing the thumbs up to thumbs down is bs. Only thing I’ll say is I’m sure there’s pressure to make a quick decision for the athletes, which isn’t easy. I don’t think there’s any nefarious intent. But the second lift was good to me.
Did you not just hear the man explain the rules? The athletes even voted on the rules BUT now will vote differently AFTER they figured out that some are anatomically challenged to be able to comply. Democracy. What unionized public school let you pass through?
You handled this like a champ! I'd say you got fairly unlucky with few things and that you deserved few points more but I like your positive attitude, I hope you keep that mindset up through your career, its equaliy importants as strength. Good luck on day two bro! You will climb few places up im sure!
The PPV has been great! Feels good to be supporting the sport but also being provided an excellent product. Love the analysis videos of the contest. Good luck on day 2!
While your attitude is appreciated, you should have gotten the lift. If the ref gives the down signal, that should be the end of it. Ref screwups should never reflect back on the athletes. That said, loved your performance!
It's nice to see you still keeping a good head despite the deadlift and press not going as planned. Glad to hear the hamstring was just a cramp and not something worse. Good luck for tomorrow!
Your recap and composure is really something to admire. Thanks for the info about the grip rule in the deadlift. Bummed that i got the PPV and can't watch Day 1 after the live. Best of luck on day 2 to you.
Your performance on day one has been great! Judging was firm but fair. Proud of you. 8th in that pack after day one is a superb place to be! Good luck today!
I'm not a fan of overly strict deadlift judging - even if it is done consistently for all. Would have like to have seen you and Evan given credit for your lifts. Get some rest, and hit it hard tomorrow. Best of luck to you!
I think it's necessary because that's why you wind up with so many issues between competitions and contestants. When you know it's extremely strict and consistently fair for everyone then you know that everyone is forced to do quality lists each time for it to count. At least no room for question. That is what the top quality event events do. I do understand the concern because deadlifts really take a huge toll on the body, but these are the top athletes and they want to be the best and leave no room for question. I like Luke and I'm a big fan of Evan, so it definitely sucks that those two minor errors were called, but rules are rules and they don't want to be given something just because people feel bad. They want to well and truly earn it with no loopholes, freebies etc, big or small
I actually didn't even realize that you didn't get the 886 in the deadlift! It's amazing how well you did despite a bit of an underperformance on that event.
Thanks for the update, wondered why your nose was plugged! Honestly you did great (super strict deadlift rules can go in the bin!) Hope your body cooperates for the squat, go smash it!
I not a huge fan of the deadlift call. Strongman has always been, to a point, moving the weight from point A to point B. From the ground to lockout in this case. Overly strict judging is leaning towards Powerlifting and there is a reason I’m not a fan of that sport. But on the flip side of that, if the athletes agreed, they agreed. Your acceptance of this shows once again how awesome the strongman competitors are. Best of luck on day two!
Congratulations! You are one of the elite Strong Men in the world and deserve to be there. I just subscribed and look forward to seeing you get stronger and use your knowledge and experience in the future(and hopefully stay healthy). I do have to vent a little though. Who was the clown at 1:10 that draped Old Glory on the f'n ground? Wtf!!! I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt that he's ignorant of how disrespectful and taboo that is. If so, please educate him and tell him this Marine was not too happy with him.
Doesn't matter if your second lift was deserved or not. You got the down signal. Therefore the lift was good. That is something that is basically agreed upon in the strongman world. The mistake of a judge, if in the advantage of the lifter, will hold. In exchange deserved lifts which are not given (a down signal) will stand as not given. You win some you loose some. Here you got the lift (down signal - doesn't matter if deserved). If you didn't deserved it, than the judge in front of you made a mistake. But mistakes by judges in the advantage of the lifter are not taken away. You basically got RETROACTIVELY taken away your "good" lift. I think this is a way bigger deal, than people realise. A lot of people have spoken about judging in strongman and, as far as I remember, the consensus is, a judge mistake (undeserved lift given) will not be do the disadavantag of the lifter. It feels like a core principle of strongman judging (maybe the of the sport itself) was broken.
@@milanaleksic8979 lol when and where? He's literally the most technically proficient strongman and I can't recall a time whe he was gifted a bad lockout by a judge or even performed one
