Scored review is here : th-cam.com/video/CvF9kybcj3E/w-d-xo.html At the end of this episode I have a little chat about the current issue of releasing big games that then require either multiple downloads after the fact or physical copies that do not include the entire game. I would be really interested to hear your thoughts on the issue! Mark
The problem is that Nintendo charge a price premium for larger capacity cartridges to keep the cost of the 8GB ones on roughly level pegging with discs for the Xbox and PlayStation. Publishers don't want to absorb this cost because it eats into their profits, but they don't want to pass it on to consumers in higher prices because they'd sell less games. Instead, they just cram what they can into 8GB and make you download the rest. If you don't like it, your only option is to vote with your wallet.
Damn I remembered when these games came out and I never thought they would be on a handheld, if u really think about it, it is amazing how far we have come
And that's why I want them, I've been busy but I'm am do down to play a good 10 hours when i pick it up. It's gonna be my second physical game copy, most of my games i chose to go digital.
I honestly think that all game service providers should be forced to have an online service deprication plan in place. With other words, allow people to download and backup their digital library, which then can be transferred back to any device. I know Valve has this in Steam, they have a backup feature, and they promised that Steam will have a final update making it an offline-client, if they were ever to close the service down. THIS needs to be standard practice! However, to this day, I still salute pirates, because they seem to be the only ones taking gaming preservation seriously. And I feel comfortable knowing that my favorite games are out there DRM-free. When I can't access them legally anymore. But that's the issue, you shouldn't need to resort to piracy to actually "own your games".
@@ZenMountain depricated software/service is when it grows old, obsolete or is getting "phased out". A "deprication plan" is a pre-made strategy when the out-phasing of a specific software service will inevitably take place :)
I don't think we should take steams "promise" seriously. For one they don't have to keep it its not a contract and they can denounce it at any time. Two and MORE importantly, if steam goes down they will most likely lose any licenses of the games they have and if they create an offline version for players to re-download their games then it's barely different then a regular rom site which can be sued at any moment. Then their is the fact that if they close due to bankruptcy they may not have the money to keep an offline site going indefinitely. I would assume that they would announce closure and how long players have to download and store their own games before the website actually disappeared.
So, in defense of the cartridge situation, for the physical: I just downloading the two additional games it takes up 20.1gb, which is alot better than the 35gb ubisoft said we may need. That's less than 30gb with AC 2. Sure, witcher put 30 Gb onto one cartridge, but they charged alot more too (in Canada witcher was 80, Ezio: 50). It's always going to be a bad deal, to not get it all on the cartridge. Tip: If you get it on ps4, you get it all on the disk.

If I buy a physical collection, that is what I expect to get, not one game on a tiny cartridge then having to download the remainder of the PHYSICAL purchase I made. Probably why my collection of physical releases is minimal and only collector's editions minus the Black Friday deals I got on AAA Nintendo titles.

Has anyone experienced a weird issue with Brotherhood and Revelations on Switch where the visuals will get incredibly blurry and pixellated at certain sections for a brief time? It's rare but very noticeable. Blur in Switch games is nothing new but it's pretty bad here. I haven't seen anyone else mention it either! Edit: I've had it happen with AC 2 as well but it's much rarer.
I went in assuming the Port would be fine (especially with how Rebel Collection was, even though Ezio Collection is a "Remaster" it never really was more than a slight face lift essentially, still basically the games as is from PS3/360) and I was impressed with how solid the Port ended up being, would love to see a Digital Foundry video to know the specifics but it's crystal clear and smooth, and the Framerate is essentially Locked 30fps which is all I need from a Portable Ass Creed The Italiano Collection... If I want to play it at home I've got the PS4 Version which is definitely a smoother overall experience and then the AMAZING FPS Boosted Xbone Version running on Xbox Series X is the definitive experience overall running at a Locked 60fps 👍
Yep. I've been playing through AC2 exclusively in handheld and I have almost no complaints. The only thing that occasionally gives me issue is the pop-in, like the video mentioned, or particularly characters despawning a bit too obviously. But that's rare and I'm otherwise quite happy with the port. (And personally, I much prefer the more realistic colors/lighting over the desaturated original.)
@@jasonblalock4429 For me it was the Music cutting out randomly for long periods, been checking for an Update for the past week and still nothing. Also the fact that it didn't play the AWESOME Final Boss Music at the end either really annoyed me 😥 Brotherhood so far seems to be a lot better in the Music department though, but also the Pop-In etc. is more/heavier in that one (though that stuff hasn't really bothered me all that much)
I’m waiting on mine to be delivered. I did not realize that they weren’t all on the cartridge. I’m not sure I would have bought it, if I knew that prior. That’s why I usually don’t buy games, until I watch your videos 🤣
I’m all about digital, Mark, but damn that is a shame about the 3DS and Wii U shops… I’m sure it’ll be many years before the same happens to the Switch, but I can’t imagine the outcry when the eshop does finally get the axe. It does make you wonder: why aren’t they offering more of these games that are being left behind on the Switch? They’re simultaneously leaving money on the table and almost encouraging emulation for these “older” consoles.
TBH I'm a bit sad that we got to the point with these old games ports where we just happy that they didn't f- it up: "Hey, at least it runs at 30fps, not like GTA!". :/
Classic Ac games look absolutely gorgeous for me even tho they are really old! Also I am excited because of the announcement of amd fsr on Nintendo switch, doom eternal and witcher 3 will look close to native res now! And now many new aaa games will come
They didn't announce anything though, it was just a leak. IF they end up implementing it in the SDK, we will never hear about it, as it will not be tied to a firmware update nor will it be system wide. Developers still have to go back to their games, implement it and release a patch, which costs money, so don't expect that in every game.
@@HerEvilTwin basically, the resolution is lowered, for example from 1080p to 800p. Then they upscale it using ai technologies and sharpness tools to make it look close to 1080p
i hope these run well, i wouldn't mind having Assassin's Creed 2 portable but (and sorry for shouting) ALL GAMES IN A COLLECTION SHOULD BE ON THE CARTRIDGE, thanks for the warning Mark :)
There’s a huge problem about the Switch port of the Ezio Collection, they haven’t fixed all the bugs that the games previously had in the previous consoles so i hope they will wipe out all the bugs as soon as possible with a few patches because especially AC Brotherhood is the most bugged one of all.
Was not able to play all these 3 games before but now I get to play them for the first time on the Switch. I am in love with Italy already and I've never been there.
I have given this much thought and I clearly see that Nintendo Switch system is a hybrid system that is why some games ported over to the switch look good and some others don't, now if Nintendo can just make a non hybrid handheld this may fix the problem porting over games to the new hardware. I hope Nintendo does the right move on there next system, but then again Nintendo will do as they do!!!! I love the AC Ezio's collection as I loved black flag and brotherhood classic nostalgia in the right direction. 👾💯
I don't know how to break this to you but Nintendo merged their portable and home console divisions together. That's a permanent thing they did there they're not going to be making another just portable or just home console. It's going to be hybrid all the way for them from now on. That said things like DLSS should alleviate a lot of these issues in the future. And who knows maybe the price on these crazy expensive cartridges will come down to a reasonable level that companies will stop putting one game on the cart and forcing you to download the rest. I highly doubt that'll happen though.
agree with you on the download BS. we're paying for physical. let us own it. balls to this "we can turn it off when we want" nonsense. If we wanted that we'd buy a PS or Xbox. Poor showing Nintendo.
Just to be clear: these can be played offline, you just need to download them once, right? I totally agree that games should fully ship on cartridge, for reasons of game preservation alone but also to conserve storage and allow sharing between friends,
Cant you share nonetheless? With Rebel Collection you do need to download Rogue.. but its a free download, attached to the game like an update file. Its not anything like FFX-X2 remaster where literally half the product has to be redeemed with a fucking voucher of all things. Thats disgusting and shady. If Ezio Trilogy is the latter thats bizarre amongst other things, if its the former you can still share, just not quickly.
@@supervegito2277 you can download AC2 alone if you want. If you want to download brotherhood or revelations you have to download them but they will all run under one icon, ezio trilogy.
It's bad that Ubi are expecting folk to pay 40 quid for a collection that is now... Considerably less than 40 quid elsewhere, and only giving them one of the three games on the cartridge. I get that 32GB carts are pretty expensive and lead to the boxed versions of Dying Light and Witcher being more expensive, but that was a price people were willing to pay, based on how both of those titles still seem to sell fairly consistently. Given the recent announcement about the 3DS, I seriously wonder how titles like this will be handled in future. Will people just be restricted to Assassin's Creed 2, or will Ubi make it so the other games are still available somehow? I know which of those outcomes I'm leaning towards being the case.
I keep trying to tell people that. I've already experienced losing digital titles forever on the xbox 360 and ps4. Yeah the majority of them are still there, but licensed games like the simpsons, godzilla, and ninja turtles are gone off the store unable to redownload even if you have previously purchased them. Better hope you're hardrive doesn't fail.
I frankly dont notice much frame drops in games...I mean I watch a video someone says there was frame drops with a cringe, and I never see it...i mean it has to really drop to notice it. that being said, not all games are on the game card? Am a sad Panda :(
Hey, so, the Wii U eShop is closing next month, so I was thinking that a good video might be games to buy that you can only play on the Wii U, such as Super Mario RPG?
what they need to do is put it all in one cartridge, release it on 2 or 3 cartridges & release the games separately online instead of hiding brotherhood and revelations behind a paywall
So one thing I’ve noticed playing AC2, there is a sound bug where after a while, the background music, battle music, chasing music, everything just completely goes away and you’re left with utter dead silence no matter what you’re doing. Turns out f*cking Ubisoft left this bug in and never fixed it ever since the original release nearly 15 years ago, despite people complaining on their official forum. God I hate this company at times. Edit: So basically whenever you synchronise a viewpoint or start a mission or do ANYTHING, the background music you had before will no longer play until you RESTART THE GAME. I can’t fathom Ubisoft’s incompetence and negligence. I can guarantee they won’t fix this crap either since it’s been a known issue for over a decade and all the response they’ve given is that they can’t do anything about it and you should just restart the game every time it happens. Screw this company
Playing in handheld can be a bit of a nightmare due to how cumbersome it becomes to do simple actions like moving your camera or making sure you're actually pushing forward to move. A lot of the times when parkouring, you may not be pushing the joystick straight forward and actually pushing more to the side causing Ezio jump in unintended directions. The joystick is too small to actually notice you're not pushing straight up a lot of the times. These games are better experienced with the gamepad. There's a mission in Brotherhood that requires the use of the machine gun, and to do so requires you to shoot ZR(I believe) and move the right joystick to use the camera to aim. Now that becomes really difficult to do on handheld. I swapped to the gamepad immediately once I knew the controls.
too late already bought it chaps 🤣 couldn't resist cos 3 and 4 were sick and I'm fine with going back in time in terms of the graphics and sure the parkour isn't going to be smooth. I've got 35g free for Ezio.
If u have played any of the recent ac titles it would be different going back to the more simple ones like these but they pretty good games I recommend getting em on a different platform tho
Really hope ya'll take a look at Infernax, been playing it a bit and it is an amazing Metroidvania old school style game. Loving the graphics, combat, and music. Plus the konami code unlock makes it even more epic, but play through the main game once first at least.
as i expected ubisoft were completley lazy when making this, assassins creed 3 remastered was not remastered at all because ubisoft doesent like to put any effort at all and it looks like it is the case here too
read somewhere that there are three card sizes. the bigger the card the more the card costs. so the developers or publishers save money by buying smaller capacity cards.
Assassin's Creed in the palm of your hands is always a delight. But the remastered version of AC2 compared to its original PS3/360 counterpart, kinda looks bad not gonna lie. Every character just looks red. It's like they're being put in a choke hold or are holding their breaths at all times. The lighting also looks super dry too for some reason. Sometimes there's no lighting at all on the character models. But it's a "Ubisoft Remaster" so coming from them, what else can you expect right?
After everything being downloaded can you take the DLC on the go? Can you play all the DLC without online after all the other content is downloaded? I don’t care about the multiplayer because people told me that they would never play co op with me just because I’m special needs.
Yes you can! Power through man, you're amazing! Don't feel sorry about being unique, i'm visually impaired while also being considered special needs but i don't think of myself that way usually. Just be yourself and you'll find friends and success. I'm working on myself too. 😇

Also the fact that it didn't play the AWESOME Final Boss Music at the end either really annoyed me 😥 Brotherhood so far seems to be a lot better in the Music department though, but also the Pop-In etc. is more/heavier in that one (though that stuff hasn't really bothered me all that much)
Hey guys, great review! Do you think you can do a review of the game Webbed? Looks super interesting to me.
I’m waiting on mine to be delivered. I did not realize that they weren’t all on the cartridge. I’m not sure I would have bought it, if I knew that prior. That’s why I usually don’t buy games, until I watch your videos 🤣
No worries mate - it’s all very strange! Mark
@@SwitchUpYt Agreed, my brother.
Now we need an Altair trilogy with Altair chronicles AC1 and Bloodlines
I’m all about digital, Mark, but damn that is a shame about the 3DS and Wii U shops…
I’m sure it’ll be many years before the same happens to the Switch, but I can’t imagine the outcry when the eshop does finally get the axe.
I thought the fsr would only be applied for future titles? Though I really don’t know anything about this stuff or the technology behind it
@@HerEvilTwin basically, the resolution is lowered, for example from 1080p to 800p. Then they upscale it using ai technologies and sharpness tools to make it look close to 1080p
@@HerEvilTwin as I said, if the lib gets included in the SDK, devs will have the chance to patch it in their old games.
@@Hamox FSR doesnt use AI. That's DLSS, which uses the tensor cores that are optimized for math calculations (so great for deep learning).
i hope these run well, i wouldn't mind having Assassin's Creed 2 portable but (and sorry for shouting) ALL GAMES IN A COLLECTION SHOULD BE ON THE CARTRIDGE, thanks for the warning Mark :)
Don't know why, but I find the "let's find out" very satisfying to listen to
Had been looking into those Joycons and after I saw that yall recommended them, I went ahead and bought em. Thanks for the discount!
Thanks for this. So helpful ^_^
One of three on cartridge ? Im a physical game kinda guy and was going to buy this but now I’ll wait for a clearance sale
Same for me. I am really only interested in AC2.
Never bothered to hook my Switch up on the internet anyway. So not like I have a choice.
It amazes me that Black Flag looks better on the switch docked than the XBOX 360
All AC switch ports have been great hats off tho
I think Nintendo should make the switch 2,3,4 and so on.
agree with you on the download BS. we're paying for physical. let us own it. balls to this "we can turn it off when we want" nonsense. If we wanted that we'd buy a PS or Xbox. Poor showing Nintendo.
I already have the Xbox One version with everything on disc and which now runs at 60fps on my Series X so I’m good.
Just got this and the 3rd game for $25 cad each. They are on sale at Walmart right now. Looking forward to playing them been quite a few years.
The new joy cons made It look like you were showing the game on the steam deck 😆
I got the PS4 version for cheap before this was announced and I will stick to that.
Same. 8.99 and all on one 1
Disc.
Thanks for the vid lad. I wasn't really sure to buy it. But I will get it just for the nostalgia. Since they were my favorite games back than
You guys need to do a podcast, perfect voices for a podcast.
Just to be clear: these can be played offline, you just need to download them once, right?
I totally agree that games should fully ship on cartridge, for reasons of game preservation alone but also to conserve storage and allow sharing between friends,
Yeah I’ll just test airplane mode to be sure
Cant you share nonetheless?
With Rebel Collection you do need to download Rogue.. but its a free download, attached to the game like an update file.
Its not anything like FFX-X2 remaster where literally half the product has to be redeemed with a fucking voucher of all things. Thats disgusting and shady.
If Ezio Trilogy is the latter thats bizarre amongst other things, if its the former you can still share, just not quickly.
SuperVegitoFAN I think you're right! I was somehow under the impression it was one of those codes that get attached to your account
They can be played offline.
@@supervegito2277 you can download AC2 alone if you want. If you want to download brotherhood or revelations you have to download them but they will all run under one icon, ezio trilogy.
These games have aged like fine Italian wine 🤌
Thanks for the rev!
Really bringing me back to the xbox and 360 days. I might pick this up
Pov you bought it and now are seeing if you messed up
Lol did I?
And is it worth it?
5:05 OMG, this song...🥺
I frankly dont notice much frame drops in games...I mean I watch a video someone says there was frame drops with a cringe, and I never see it...i mean it has to really drop to notice it. that being said, not all games are on the game card? Am a sad Panda :(
Really want want but can't justify it at that price! Can pick it up for about 8 quid on the xbox during a sale. Will just hat to wait I guess.
Hey, so, the Wii U eShop is closing next month, so I was thinking that a good video might be games to buy that you can only play on the Wii U, such as Super Mario RPG?
Never played any assassins games is this collection better than the pirate ones???
I prefer the pirate one but this is a bit of a classic. Mark
How can I convince ubisofr to release the prince of Persia trilogy on switch
what they need to do is put it all in one cartridge, release it on 2 or 3 cartridges & release the games separately online instead of hiding brotherhood and revelations behind a paywall
You can't capture video? You can do that on 3 and 4. Strange choice.
It is a shame not all three are on the cartridge, but when there's a good sale I will probably cave anyway.
Same here dude.
Been gaming since the 70's and not once have I played an AC game. Should I give it a go? Where should I start?
Basically I am an old man, I’m good with that!
When it comes to Switch U DA MAN!
Thanks mate!
Liking that split pad controller. Which make/model is that? - Duh! Should have waited until the end of the video before I commented!
too late already bought it chaps 🤣 couldn't resist cos 3 and 4 were sick and I'm fine with going back in time in terms of the graphics and sure the parkour isn't going to be smooth. I've got 35g free for Ezio.
Yeah haha fair play to you mate!
I decided to buy it on the eshop because I'm through with incomplete cartrige.
...right, to save 7GB of space, Im sure you gotta pop in the cartridge, not matter which of the 3.games you play.
@SwitchUp you think the rebel collection runs better than this or is it about equal
Never played them is is wort it?
If u have played any of the recent ac titles it would be different going back to the more simple ones like these but they pretty good games I recommend getting em on a different platform tho
Really hope ya'll take a look at Infernax, been playing it a bit and it is an amazing Metroidvania old school style game. Loving the graphics, combat, and music. Plus the konami code unlock makes it even more epic, but play through the main game once first at least.
Thanks for all the hard work!
Thank you mate!
I've never played Revelations and I'm always eager to get back to 2, so maybe it's time to reunite with old friend Ezio :)
Wat is the bather platform to play this on ? Switch or PS4.
I'd say Switch because you get portability
Anyone else having noticeable input lag? I have it even in handheld mode. I read about it in another article too. Is there a chance it gets fixed?
I got this collection for Handheld and the PS4 version for the home tv
as i expected ubisoft were completley lazy when making this, assassins creed 3 remastered was not remastered at all because ubisoft doesent like to put any effort at all and it looks like it is the case here too
Are you using binbok or nyxi joycons in this video?
Im okay with downloading content when it runs like the bioshock port. However, this large, and subpar performance, is a big deterrent.
There are so many better games that could have been ported from the 360/PS3 era!
Brutal legend!:)
Prototype
It runs well, but when i look around the background is kinda stuttering which is sometimes annoying
One thing I'd like to know is can you gallop your horse in Brotherhood within the city?
Best review of this yet
In Australia on the Switch eStore the collection is $79.95
Can you download the each game separate? Never bought a collection before
Any chance you can tell me what that awesome song at the end of the video is?
i am currently enjjoying some Drift, so might look into one of those your 'cons, i got a pair of Hori ones, but no gyro and the like
Those controllers in the ad make a switch look like a portable xbox
Do you guys already consider this prior your review correct? Also interesting videos hope to see more of this performance videos
The cutscenes are really pixilated during certain ones but the performance is pretty great
You just saved me some money, thanks.
I am confused how the physical version works. How much extra space in your switch do you need if you buy the physical version?
read somewhere that there are three card sizes. the bigger the card the more the card costs. so the developers or publishers save money by buying smaller capacity cards.
Oh absolutely this 8, 16 and 32
Assassin's Creed in the palm of your hands is always a delight.
Rebel or Ezio collection?? Which would you guys recommend
Rebel anyday
After everything being downloaded can you take the DLC on the go? Can you play all the DLC without online after all the other content is downloaded? I don’t care about the multiplayer because people told me that they would never play co op with me just because I’m special needs.
Yes you can! Power through man, you're amazing! Don't feel sorry about being unique, i'm visually impaired while also being considered special needs but i don't think of myself that way usually. Just be yourself and you'll find friends and success. I'm working on myself too. 😇
Wait does this have the competitive multiplayer to?
@@craftergamer9058 No it doesn't sadly.
I'm thinking if I should get this for switch or for my xbox series x
