  • I took a little more of a vlogging approach to this Kyudo video, so let me know in the comments if you enjoyed it!
After passing my 4th level Japanese Kyudo skills test, I became eligible to participate in the All-Japan traditional archery tournament.
This was my first time at a taikai this big, so needless to say, I was a bit nervous.

It was my first time ever watching your performance in live action in Kyoto, after following your channel ever since covid. And I have to say, it was very very mesmerising and inspirational, touching at the same time. Your shakei is really really beautiful. Moreover after having to know the story of your Kyudo journey in which you’ve attempted yondan shinsa for a substantial number of time, not giving up but excelled even more than it required… the narrative has just become so wholesome.
Good luck and all the best on your godan shinsa!
(Really wanted to meet you in person on that day too.. unfortunately)
    Until then,
    Best of luck!

The comments on the video have shown me how far my videos reach around the world, and that has brought me so much joy!
I’m so glad you’ve been able to follow me for all these years!
Keep on keeping on my friend! Please let me know when you take Ni-dan!
Perhaps one day we can shoot with each other at the all japan kyudo taikai!

@@kurikurinton being on the Zenkoku taikai or the same stage as you Clinton-san is a big dream, not vividly think it would be possible to happen anytime soon but it’s always been something that I’d look upon! Nidan will be optimistic by September since we’re gonna have online shinsa around the time (if things go smoothlyy). Hopefully one day!

I practice solo here on the southern tip of darkest Africa….I have my own dojo ..so I soldier on daily with my SENSEI in Japan guiding me…I watched your videos with interest and these have been very helpful…I must compliment you on the consistent improvements I observed as you finally aced to Dan last year….and reaching this goal …with a superb demonstration of form …focus …and a positive attitude certainly inspired me…..I have much preparation and focused daily practice mapped out….but any guidance or input from you would be most welcome….perhaps out lining your practice routine?….best wishes
    Sandy

      Hi Sandy!
It’s amazing that my videos reach all over the world! That makes me so happy!
My practice routine, I practice at the kyudo club at the high school I teach at about 3 times a week but only for a short time (maybe 30-45 min / 8-10 arrows) and I practice at my city dojo with the team I’m on about once a week (about 3 hours / 16-20 arrows)
Keep on working hard my friend!
      I hope this helps

Nice idea to make a vlog of this big event! I liked it. A piece of advice, focus 100 % on every single movement from entering the dojo in your tachi until you leave the dojo. This way, you will stay in a munen muso state, ie. keeping your mind free of earthly thoughts. Feelings are triggered by thoughts. So it will keep the uncertainty, fear, joy of hitting or sadness of missing away. Those are the biggest reasons for failure. Good luck with the godan examination!

Thank you very much! Yeah clearing the mind was very difficult there but now that I’ve done it once, I might be able to clear my head next year 😄

Really interesting, I think I might have to watch this a few times. I have Shodan shinsa coming up next month, and I have to shoot from standing, like the gentleman behind you. It will help me with the timing, position of the steps etc. Thank you. Looking forward to more Kyudo vlogging!

The shinsa shooting methods and timing are a little different. I recommend checking out one of my shinsa videos from the timing of it all! Good luck on the shinsa buddy! Let me know how it goes!
