Because it wasn't a glitch. It's self preservation of the code. When you hit an overflow, without "buffering" you get an overflow error, and shit meets fan for romantic persuasion. The simplest is just flip it. And because that system has no negative integers. Well it has to go the complete other way. The bottom max goes to top max. EDIT: someone informed me this situation is called an "underflow" not overflow.
to explain the previous comment, its not a glitch. thats how code and computers operate. it was at most an oversight, that then turned into a mechanic if its still there.

Bruh this is essentially Gandhi's ways: Oppressive government exists, you know if you try to do the violent way, the Britishers would rush right in and get countless troops to suppress it, and then all freedom fighters will be murdered and independence is delayed by 100 years. So what do you do? You stop working for them. What's the point of a government if there is no one who'll listen to them? And it worked. The Brits in 1942 imprisoned Gandhi while Savarkar and Jinnah roamed free getting people into the British Army, the same British Army Bose was going to fight against. The people erupted in protests, Churchill was so much in panic that he ALLOWED the British Raj to use a SECRET POLICE, MACHINE-GUN the population on the streets, BOMB them with air raids. Now oppression is the mask of fear, he feared us. The Brits feared the combined force of 1. an international army propagating anti-British sentiment all over the world and India, and liberating India and 2. a popular leader who got the entire nation giving their lives for him. 10,000 died in Quit India, 60,000 were arrested and brutally tortured by the secret police of the Raj. The Government only had a military reluctant to do all this. Then Bose came and threw a hammer on the Wall of Oppression and the entire regime came crashing down as afterWW2 the entire British Army began protesting and revolting and felt bad that now they're being ordered to hunt those they swore to protect. Also, there's a file where Churchill wrote on its corner, "Why hasn't Gandhi died yet?" when he was responding to the Raj Government regarding some issue in the 40s. Now that's a statement you'd not get from a puppet master Bose called Gandhi the "Father of India" in his 1944 speech. Gandhi called Bose "Prince Among Patriots." Stop believing in Whatsapp.

For anyone wondering, the explanation in the video of how underflow works is correct. The lie part is that Civ 1 never had the underflow glitch, and it was kind of a playground rumor like Mew under the truck, but the developers did buy into the rumor in later games, with civs 5 and 6 adding it as a mechanic.
You CLEARLY haven't played civ 1. There was such a glitch, like, a hundred percent. Try a game, you need a Gandhi as an opponent, and wait until he develops democracy. Then - enjoy the nukes. And don't say there is no glitch there.
@@ldSt3345this isn't a debatable thing you can use anecdotal evidence for. The game's code literally doesn't use unsigned integers for this (which can be verified very easily if you have a background in programming). It couldn't have underflowed at -1, meaning this glitch couldn't have happened.
@@DaSquyd of course it does use unsigned integers, silly. Your emulator may use signed and probably even bigger integers, so quit bragging about the stuff you've never done yourself.

@@conorkilhenny5362 How do we know? For the most part all the "proof" people have is that they remember Ghandi nuking them, so he must have had this glitch.
Sid Meier lied to get people to not think that the game was bad. In reality that glitch existed and the developers were horrified at the glitch but instead of admitting to the issue and sending out replacement copies to people who bought the game because in reality back in that day if a game was released with game breaking problems you could not do a patch or bug fix after release of the game so releasing a game with any glitches was a declaration that the programmer who made the game was bad and you should avoid them. Sid Meier lied because he refused to admit that he let a glitch passed and allowed a game with a glitch to exist. The glitch actually is real and happened constantly and it actually made the game unwinnable if Gandhi was played against at all. The glitch was not just for anyone who goes with Democracy but the actual glitch was Gandhi's aggression was starting at 0 with all other others starting at around 10 or 20 and the glitch turned out to be if the aggression meter went bellow 0 then any not just Gandhi would go to -99 because it would roll around to the other side but the - sign would not show up but then there was the weird thing that allowed the coding to go above 100 as well and not roll back to 0 because it had several coding systems and the auto max would be 99 which made stats not be allowed to normally go above that unless certain conditions are met but the lowest function would be 0 and did not have a level cap of 0 going backwards. Basically the numbers were not just by 0 to 10 but 0 to 999 but sense the aggression could go way above the normal max Gandhi would become pure destruction. There were in fact multiple ways to lower aggression which included gifts or agreements or making peace with other civilizations and Gandhi would start the game by auto asking to make peace with all nations when the game started or met any civilization so to put it bluntly Gandhi would start off the game with 0 aggression then instantly go to over max aggression and he would in fact cheat. The glitch caused Gandhi to get nukes by turn 17 at latest making Gandhi literally un beatable do to the fact he had nukes 300 turns before you could get speed run getting nukes and literally kill you instantly. I know because Gandhi fucking destroyed me as a kid and I quit the game and I saw how Sid Meier lied his fucking ass off claiming it was a person who could not play the game who got pissed off at the game. You know who actually got pissed off at that? It was the guy who held the world championship for Star Craft number 1 best Star Craft Player for like 4 years and was among the top 10 Age of Empires Players for 8 years in a row and held the top 5 War Craft 3 players for 4 years in a row. The guy Sid Meier called a loser who got mad that he could not play the game because he was shit at the game was among the worlds best strategy players for over a decade and had been in the top 10 greatest chess masters in the world for nearly 50 years. Sid Meier lied because he released a game with a massive broken game breaking glitch that people actually tried to beat Gandhi effectively and well someone did find a way to beat Gandhi but in order to beat Gandhi you have to spawn near him and be the first to interact with him and instead of agreeing to an alliance you have to piss him the fuck off and instantly declare war and keep him in aggressive mode for a while and then make peace with him. You have to literally span only a few tiles away from him and basically start off going to war with him and then that actually makes you hated by the entire rest of all nations which makes the game even harder but its doable to actually get him angry at you from the start of the game which raises his aggressive nature and you have to blatantly keep him angry or he will have the glitch take effect killing the map. Getting him angry allows you to control his anger meter but you must also keep everyone from going to democracy so you kind of have to force the game into a giant war to constantly conquer the world and you have to conquer Gandhi before anyone goes into democracy then you can make peace with the world but doing that is really hard to do because Gandhi going into the negatives glitches the game and gives him nukes before anyone can get them.
Well, those games most certainly didn't have that glitch. I think the AI was more aggressive in 3, as for 4, the only nuclear ghandi anything in 4 is what he says when he has nukes. 5 is the first game where nuclear hhandi was ever a feature.
If I recall he set the integer limit from 0-10, expecting that ghandi would go from 1 to 0 when you subtracted 2. The reason he believes "it can't happen" is because he doesn't understand that an integer limit just creates a premature overflow point.
So, basically, we have two claims with no proof. I'm going to believe the Gandhi nuke guy. Never trust a rich person to tell the truth, and also, its funnier.
Still better than the real version, if he was actually like that, India would have gotten independence way before and I would have respected him more. And I'm saying this being an Indian myself
I believe that where there is aggression, there must be nuclear retaliation. Ahimsa (non-violence) is fine, but sometimes you just need a good ol' mushroom cloud to make a point.

If Gandhi is supposed to be a flat 1, then why would Gandhi even think of a nuking, if it wasn't a real glitch?
Because it wasn't a glitch. It's self preservation of the code. When you hit an overflow, without "buffering" you get an overflow error, and shit meets fan for romantic persuasion. The simplest is just flip it. And because that system has no negative integers. Well it has to go the complete other way. The bottom max goes to top max.

I always chose the ai's and never included Ghandi in my game ever since.
A civ with democracy could not declare war, so if this glitch was real he would only go nuclear if you declared war on him.
@@hulkaiden6178 This bug only happens if YOU choose Democracy. As the video mentioned it aswell, choosing democracy lowers your relations with ones who did not chose Democracy by 10. Which is what triggers the bug as Gandhi doesnt choose Democracy.
@@RexRagerunner Relations has nothing to do with this. People have claimed there is an aggression modifier that goes 1-10, and that there is an underflow error because adopting democracy made the civilization's leader less aggressive.
It literally says this in this video
"Whenever a country adopted democracy, leader's aggression rating automatically went down by two points"
meaning that whenever another country adopted democracy, that country's leader would be less aggressive
The claim is that, since Gandhi is already so non-aggressive, his aggression going down would cause an underflow error and make his aggression the maximum aggression.

Bruh this is essentially Gandhi's ways:
Oppressive government exists, you know if you try to do the violent way, the Britishers would rush right in and get countless troops to suppress it, and then all freedom fighters will be murdered and independence is delayed by 100 years.
Now that's a statement you'd not get from a puppet master
Bose called Gandhi the "Father of India" in his 1944 speech.

It was tested. The glitch does exist.
I got him to be super aggressive to me. In civ revolution
Thanks
