WOW. First of all, I didn't know Phil Collen could hold his own with players of such high caliber, but this guy can shred! Good singer, too. Mad props to him. Satch was a huge part of my childhood music experience, Collen too to a lesser extent. Paul Gilbert is the player I aspire to be. Dude is just from another world.
Man I wish I could've been there to witness this in person!! All 3 are so damn good and bring their own unique style into the song. I love how Joe can bring such great musicians together to give the world music performance like this!!

This is amazing seeing this now, this is from one of several jam nights at a camp at Asilomar conference center in California, where Joe hosted several great musicians for a whole week He also gave some amazing talks regarding surfing with the alien, as they were celebrating the anniversary of that release Also at the camp that week were Stuart Hamm, Jonathan Mover Warren Demartini Doug Doppler, and several others on the teaching staff I’ve been lucky enough to be a professional musician for 25 years, and I knew that if I went to this camp I was gonna learn a ton and I was absolutely right. So much fun to watch! And all these guys are great! Gilbert is still my favorite and here’s one reason, and it’s a reason why I love Roy Clark as well: besides being such a joy to listen to they are also fun to watch! When you see how much fun they are having you just can’t help but feel it too! If either of them two couldn’t play a lick I’d still watch them play air guitar if everything else about them stayed the same!
These three legends should tour as a side band, the chemistry is so obvious. One finds themselves tapping their feet a bit at first, and then you just immerse yourself into the doodling magic and you're tap tap tapping..
Fuck! The justified love and respect that these guys show each other genuinely moved me almost to tears. Such a fun and intriguing and talented jam! And a big shout-out to the rhythm section for keeping it all nailed to the floor. This, right here, is what music should be all about... \m/ (:o)
Whatever people say about Phil, Im still his fan. I never get in tune with pop metal until heard Def Leppard and realize how they influences some of 80 rock band sounds

Paul is an ace player and Phil is equally great. One of the most underrated guitar players ever. Like Paul, Phil can turn his hand to anything even delta blues. Check his Delta deep albums. One live one studio and both brilliant.
Once I watched the clip, and read the comments, I felt a bit upset about Phil Collen because of the lack of people mentioning him, which reveals quite a lot of the watchers think that he is not at the same level as Satch or Gilbert. For those that could consider that way, let me provide you a slightly different point of view: I cannot be sure about this, but perhaps I could be right if I say that Phil Collen thinks and feels [regarding himself] as a band musician (and he has been a band musician for a while...), and that's why he does not play the guitar-divo-frontman role as fine. But you can take for granted that if he is in the show, the other two G3's are sure about they can rely on Phil's abilities not to be just another "simple addition" on stage. So, in spite of so many people opinions, there is an undeniable fact: he has already had recognition from JS and PG, and it should mean something for any rock guitar fan. (I must confess that there is another reason, apart from their outstanding and enjoyable music, for me to love Def Leppard: they tend to prioritize their mates over their success. This way of undersanding their career deserves all my respect and admiration)
Find the video for the previous G3 with Petrucci when he's rehearsing in his dressing room with his band and a Boss travel amp. I bought that amp because of him. That was over 2 years ago. They guy shows immense control at ANY dynamic because later on he goes and covers Mistreated from DP.
no-one's having a go at phil. but, if they were, you could make a justified case that his technique is a lot sloppier. still plays really cool licks but a little outplayed when it comes to the diddling.
This was awesome!!! Phil Collen has always been one of my favorite guitarists and it's so cool to see him jamming on stage with 2 of the greatest guitarists.
So many comments about this being some sort of competition... I'm sure the last thing on the 3 musicians minds was "how can I be the best player on stage".
Sometimes the competition thing exists between men on the same stage, but this seems a delightful departure from that mindset. If the listener sees (or hears) something different than you and I do - heck, 'not much we can do about that! These guys are there for the adventure! You stretch me - and I'll stretch you. Stretching is a good thing! 'Doesn't sound much like Stevie Wonder though.
Especially with Joe satriani,In my opinion a very underrated guitarist. The man has such appreciation for music. And a definite master. But after seeing this ? I'm definitely gonna check out Paul Gilbert some more
I love how PG builds around a melody its great as u get familiar with the concept but suprised you with outside notes - great player. Would hate to have to go after any of these guys.

He's saving up for the arms now...
