Idi Amin was 3rd President of Uganda in the 70s and is known as one of the most brutal dictators in modern history.

Idi Amin was a brutal dictator, ask Ugandan's today what they think of him. They've never really shaken off his reputation.

The scene of his wife's body all discombobulated was horrific. Ain't no way I would've crossed that insane king 😭😭

The whole Scotland thing fits in because Idi Amin had a weird fixation on Scotland because his officers were Scottish when he was serving in the British army in the 40s and 50s and even asked Queen Elizabeth II to marry him so he could become king of Scotland but she was already married to prince Philip and had 4 kids by this point.

Someone's batting a thousand on the recommendations. I don't think I've seen anyone else react to this movie. I was going to watch it anyway, but when I saw how perky you guys were about it when you started, I knew I *had* to watch 😄
I had a friend years ago who'd been to Uganda about eight times and absolutely loved it, said it was beautiful, and would always include a 1-2 week safari while she was there, which is apparently an amazing experience. Maybe someday... Although, now that I'm remembering the stories, I think the large white spiders that would dart through their campsite everynight might have me sticking to the cities and out of the bush 😬

I liked the way that Amin and Nicholas were both childlike and that attracted them to each other.
Nicholas was like a spoilt teenager. In his mind, the world was only there for him to play in.

The Dr was young, naive and impressionable.

NichoIas took far too long to understand he was not dealing with a western politician, he is a fictional character, it would have been tragic for someone to be so "blind". Idi Amin did not talk to people, quite agree with your idea to research Idi Amin Dada and his brutal regime, it is often compared to Cambodia's Pol Pot. Milton Obote had been the PM from 1962 until 1966. Also perhaps watch Irvin Kershner's made for tv 1977 film "Raid on Entebbe" it explains the events quite well.

Good on you guys for doing some choice films. Whitaker and McAvoy are freaking intense. Great, difficult watch about even worse sh*t in real life and times.
"Silkwood" is a terrific' disturbing film with Meryl Street, Cher ( no, really), and Kurt Russell. About a radiation leak at a nuke plant. Affecting blue collar workers they tried to cover-up and allow horrible effects to occur.
It's a sobering, extraordinarily acted film.
George Clooney in "Michael Clayton" like you've never seen him before. And in "Up in the Air"... his range is very underrated.

Have y'all seen The Shield? Whittaker is amazing on it with potentially the best performance of his career. It's such a great role and he destroys everyone he's on screen with (including rising legend Walton Goggins). Definitely check out The Shield if you haven't because damn Whitaker's pheromenal in it.

I remember Forrest Whitaker won a ton of Best Actor awards that year for his performance in this movie. Next, you both should check out Forrest Whitaker in his 1999 movie Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai. I think yall would love that movie.

Any movie that has me looking up stuff on wikipedia while watching is a good one. It's not 100% accurate but the real events are fairly bonkers too. A movie with a similar vibe is Lord of War, it's a decent movie too.

I wonder if Idi Amin's physician had to pay for the gas of the car he was given? You know, when he stopped to fill the tank. Would they have dared to charge for the petrol?
