The new Rootbeer GMT is on another level from any of its older family members. This watch is gorgeous and drips with sporty elegance. Rolex nailed its color of rose gold to the point it jumps at you from across the room.
Totally agree with you guys. I’ve been debating for a very long time to go for the Rootbeer two tone only seeing it from pictures, or the more common Pepsi/Batman version which I did see in person. But man, I’m in love with the Rootbeer! I catch myself every time checking out wearing my watch when passing a mirror or turn my wrist to get a glimpse of this watch even when I don’t need to know the time at that moment. It’s an odd ball, it’s not too much in your face with the rose gold, but at the same time an eye catcher because of it stands out more then the previously mentioned GMT versions. Dressed up or dressed down, I feel it’s always suitable and very versatile.
@@1971iso I hope you got one, it is fantastic. My wife surprised me at my wedding with it during our first look, and damn I was stunned. Freaking amazing watch, I interchange between that and a 116610LN every day and it doesn’t disappoint.
The new root beer gmt looks amazing to me. I actually like it more than the new pepsi which beyond the hype, is not a watch I would be interested in owning. But right away the root beer just caught my eye with its warm colors. Now I will admit this, it does not make me think of root beer at all. It makes me think of chocolate and caramel. I could understsnd somebody not liking it because their mind links the name to a color combo that is not displayed. I do not think the root beer satisfies the need for a root beer look. I would have called it chocolate and caramel. Beyond the name, it just seems so warm and made for classy scenes and events. I love it.
I understand your view but I think the new two-tone RB is stunning. Look... nothing made in this period of time is meant to age gracefully. Everything is made to be disposed of. So, a watch that could potentially look brand new 100 years from is pretty DARN AMAZING.
Appreciate this response as I recently purchased the 2018 Rolex GMT Master ll Root Beer as my engagement watch and couldn’t be happier with this stunning timepiece. In the meantime we’ve been posting some reviews on the channel and seeing this GMT Root Beer in person still gives me cold chills👍
Seeing the Rootbeer in person did it for me. Some people say if you want to have it bling, make it bling and do yellow gold. But I can tell you regardless how subtle this watch is, the way it reflects the light on the 24-hour markers on the bezel and the side of the bezel it will for sure catch your eyes. The yellow gold you can already see from miles away, but the rose gold is not so noticeable until, boom, it reflects that light and you’ll be like ‘hey where did that flash come from’.
completely agree, if the color scheme is intended to be loud, make it loud! Plus I'm personally just a bigger fan of the case dimensions on the old 40mm pieces.
Having both the watches side by side would actually do justice to your video. U have to feel the latest rootbeer not look on the mobile and comment. According to me the latest rootbeer two-tone is the best looking rootbeer . Wear it and definitely u will have looks at it and definitely people would love to have conversations about it. It has happened with me.
The brown color is so seventies that in 1978 Porsche launched its 928 model in an exclusive chocolate brown color, which at that time was considered super modern and extra cool. And I think the same as you: if I could buy a GMT it would be an original Root Beer, or a Fat Lady.
If you want to preserve the colors and printing longer on an aluminum bezel insert you should apply a few thin coats of ArmorAll to the printed surface an let sit over a day or so and then wipe off any excess before finishing to wear once more. The basic type of printed bezel insert is offset press printed and then die-cut from a the aluminum sheet that it shares with others. You can do this technique for other things like logo or icons an letter on thing like cameras and things too. The ArmoreAll is absorbed into the ink/paint substrate and helps to preserve it.
Hey I would have liked Rolex to make this watch in a brown dial. But I do like the brown/black bezel and the Rolex Rose Gold is pretty damn nice as well. All in all I like this new version. Really want to see this in the flesh!
For me, it's not the color or the type of metal that makes the old Rootbeer GMT look better. All new Rolexes are just weirdly proportioned. I loved how in the old Rolexes, the lugs gracefully taper to a proportionally sized bracelet. New Rolexes don't have that gentle taper in the lugs. The lugs look too muscular and square, and ungainly, especially in proportion to their bracelets. It's like they fed the watches steroids. Instead of looking more masculine, they just look like a big burly guy at the gym who skipped leg day.
eatabagel I think you are dead on. I think this is the big thing between vintage and modern Rolex - the older ones were styled differently. It makes it hard to compare. What I like is that some brands are doing vintage inspired watches that get the proportions right. I personally like both, I just think they are different.
This format is the best watch content on you tube. Christian, you probably won't see this, but the relaxed way you bounce off your Dad and chat about a topic was gold. Im more a fan of this version if yourself than the 'curator' version of yourself.
I own the TT Root Beer. It's the only TT Rolex I would currently own. Perfect. I also bought two Pepsi jubilees and a bunch of others but the Root Beer is towards the top.
I like the old colors of yellow and brown. I'd prefer if they released a new GMT in that than the new colors, and I'd also take that over a vintage root beer GMT for sure.
you guys are the best, cherish your dad Christian, my dad :not around anymore: and I shared many good wines in our garden, you bring back great memories, thankyou.
GENTS....you know I'm a big fan, but this is probably my favorite Liquor Run I've seen! The watch talk...the liquor conversation....none of it matters. The natural chemistry between you and your dad sold it this week. It's the thing that got me watching Liquor Run from the beginning. Bravo, Christian and Rollie.
You and your Dad have a great relationship. I wish my Dad was still around so that we could talk watches. Appreciate your Dad little bro life is short when it comes to the Good ones
I don't understand the people who say they like the ageing and fading of a watch because "every scar tells a story". Do those people feel the same way about a vintage Porsche 911 or brand new McLaren? If not then stop being pretentious and snobbish about watches. It's outrageous how anyone could criticise Rolex for using materials that prevent fading. Normal people with a normal mentality like to keep things looking new. If you are actually from the old generation and prefer things from your era, that's perfectly understandable, otherwise people who claim to like vintage "because they like the old and beat up look" are guaranteed snobs and hipsters who feel they are more sophisticated than everyone else.
My “grail-watch” is the OG rootbeer GMT and to see a modern interpretation is something I was excited to hear about. As soon as I explored the piece I was disappointed. Not only is the price NOT right, their use of different gold-tones and, in my opinion, the wrong bezel insert, is more than a letdown. Perhaps the color deviation has something to do with their use of ceramic? I’d like to think it was beyond their control but knowing Rolex...
from vintage and collection perspective, i fully agreed. Personally prefer the 16713 but if can find very nice jubilee bracelets 16753 also fine with me. Tks
I am against the idea of “aging”. I don’t think it is never aging, it will, but in a different way. Nothing stays still. No material human being invents. It is just different. You sound like you become very conservative.
I have a root beer GMT 1675 from the early 70’s. So you were off by 10 years for when it was introduced. I like the new root beer but love the old one.
If I spent that sort of money on a watch I'd want it to look pristine for ever, don't get the love for scratches and dents and faded bezels... if my car faded I'd be pissed - what's the difference?
I dunno I think it depends on the product. Somethings looks good beaten up like a pair of converse Allstars but somethings you want to be pristine. I think Christians comparison between day dates and sports watches lines up with that concept
MALIBUMAN666 you know shit about cars and watches, I wouldn’t buy a repainted vintage car even if you spend 20k for the paint job. There’s nothing better that’s a car with a little bit of rust and patina. Same with watches, shiny soy boy.
I love the color meshing on the modern GMT's. I understand the appeal of the vintage Pepsi/Rootbeer's definitive lines but I am not a fan of the fade and aging you get with the aluminum bezel! Cerachrom all the way. I loved the wine cork metaphor though!
Comparing a modern cermaic Rolex to a pre-cermaic is comparing apples to oranges, especially the GMT TT and PM models... They're just totally different.
The idea that someone would wear an old beat up watch is a fairly new thing. No one before about 2010-ish loved the look of their faded, busted up old watch. They simply bought new ones or threw them in the drawer.
2018 GMT RootBeer is an excellent watch. Like it the best in the 2018 New GMTs. The two tone is the BEST for this price point. The watch is a WINNER!! Completely different watch from the vintage. This is a Pretty watch. Dressy Sports watch you travel with. Not on your page here! 70hr power reserve! Nice video though mate. Your a child here!
New watches also get dinged up and scratched 😉 It is just the bezel and crystal that will resist them. The lacquer dial will still age, although not as fast as the matt ones of the past. The new rootbeer is a future classic with the first everose application on the gmt master.
Tom Lucas Eloquently stated. I bought a Rolex two tone sub in 1990, was pretty much a daily driver. Today it looks just as stunning as the day I bought it. Watch runs like new to this day...I had the seals changed and pressure tested...thats about it!
personally i think the white gold Pepsi looks far better than the brand new steel Pepsi. imo on the 40mm sports case the oyster bracelet on the white gold has a far more robust aesthetic than the jubilee on the steel. yea i know the day-just 40 comes on a jubilee as well, but the day-just simply doesn't have the chunky bezel of a sports watch. just find it odd to have a dress bracelet on both a non dress-watch, and a steel one (when the solid ones come with an oyster bracelet) idk anyone else agree????
Jeff Yglesias I both agree and disagree. I agree it looks better on the oyster. But the reason is they made the modern cases chunkier. On the vintage case dimensions the jubilee style bracelet worked because it wasn’t so different from the feel of the case.
Can't get enough of these vids! One question. Would you say the cartier basculante is too formal to wear with a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. I just love the watch but am not sure if it'll fit in my style.
There is no Lange comparison to be made, except price point and even then you are reaching.. Its like comparing apples to oranges.. If Lange were making a 100 m water resistant, two-tone sports watch on a full bracelet you would have a case. Some nuance would be appreciated ;)
Not a fan of many GMTs tbh & that includes a large number by Rolex. If anything i think i prefer the new Tudor because of its retro looks, i still wouldn't be willing to buy one though.

Well i do respect the people that are really into Rolex. I do believe that there are some people that just buy it because they want a expensive watch and don't know anything about watches but have heard of Rolex and just buy it. My favourite brand is Vacheron Constantin, but as written I'm not a sports watch fan so i don't like the Overseas either. I´m more into dress watches.
