    I like the legs on the bottom board. We use the tops of peanut butter jars and a small plastic puck to make an ant moat. The legs may fit right into a peanut butter jar lid for a moat and it will never rot away either! We fill ours with water and have to refill them with watering cans once a week or so if we see ants but we don't see dead bees in oil.
    I have noticed when we had ants before they were getting between the metal on the top cover and the wood of the top cover.
    The wasp tray seems like it could be easily filled with vegetable oil or DE for a SHB trap as well.
    If you have termites in your bottom boards you may consider putting a piece of sheet metal between the CMU blocks and the wood 4x4s just to slow them down. I noticed some ants eating away at our pressure treated 4x4s this year.
    As always Darren Thanks for sharing!

      Hey Brian. That's a great idea. I need to make some of those. Yeah, I was th inking you could put DE or oil in that wasp trap. I wonder if beetles would drop in there.

    • @BrianCooper901
      @BrianCooper901 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JeromeBeeFarm I wonder if the SHB would even come in the side entrances the wasps come in if you put some apple cider vinegar? Lots of fun experimenting to do in the future!

      They say that the vent over the wasp trap puts off the hive odor and that's what attracts the wasps down in there.

      Thanks GEEZBEEZ. I'm curious how those bottoms hold up over time. We'll see. I really like their feeders. They are top notch. Thanks for watching.

    I’m considering going to those plastic bottom boards for durability. Had to or need to replace rotted bottom boards this year. Thx for posting neighbor, always helpful to see what a fellow beekeeper in my neck of the woods is doing.

    • @JeromeBeeFarm
      @JeromeBeeFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Hank. Yeah, it won't rot out for sure. I'll leave them on there indefinitely to see how they work over time. It was sure nice of Ceracell to send me those components. I'll try that bee escape next year when I harvest. Take care.

      On those top feeders, looks like you could easily take the blue insert out when temps get colder which leaves you with a nice spacer shim and can just throw sugar brick on top of the frames.

    • @JeromeBeeFarm
      @JeromeBeeFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hankbaker1614 You can also take out the clear plastic guards and fill it with granulated sugar.

    That Ceracell equipment looks great. I have wanted one of those top feeders for a while. I will stay tuned in to see your opinion after you use it. Thanks for the video like always

      Thanks Dave. Yeah, I'm very impressed with the Ceracell line. I really like that top feeder. I've been wanting one for quite a while now. Thanks for stopping in.

      I added inner cover for feeder, top cover started to rot from moisture, I don't have upper vent to let moisture out

    • @JeromeBeeFarm
      @JeromeBeeFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Galloway - you can do that, but be sure you don't get robbing started through a top entrance. You would have a feeder full of drowned bees.

    Darren, I’ve already had to replace some boxes that I bought from MannLake and put into use in 2020. The boxes were painted well even on the edges where they stack. I’ve never seen any rot out that fast before this.

    • @JeromeBeeFarm

      Hey Don. Yeah, I don't know what's going on with the wood, if it's a different grain or what. They don't seem to be holding up. You can tell on those screen boards, the ones that are still holding up need to be painted again. I usually am pretty good about putting 2 good coats on them. Maybe I had some cheap paint.

    Only three stings isn't bad for this time of the year. I sure like the Ceracell products. They are not cheap but if you can get 10 years or more out of them then they aren't so bad. Looks like you got some more rain this week. I'll bet it soaked up quickly.

    • @JeromeBeeFarm
      @JeromeBeeFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, but no more Stingnados! lol Yeah, Ceracell makes top notch stuff. I like it. Yes, we finally got some rain. 2.21" on the week, we needed it badly.

    Used the feeders this fall on 5 hives. Very pleased. Pricey but should last a log time I hope. BB look interesting also. Just wonder how the moving parts will work after a couple years of wax and propolis build up.

    • @JeromeBeeFarm
      @JeromeBeeFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Glenn. I don’t keep mine on there very long to get any build up. I think they are worth the price. We’ll see how they last.

    Darren, i am curious to see how these plastic things hold up to the high temps you see there in the summer months, over the years i have tried a few plastic things for my hives and they always warp after the summer heat gets to them. good lick buddy

      Hey Billy Boy. I will leave them on there long term, so we'll see how they hold up. We have several 100+ days here in Oklahoma. Thanks for watching.
