    Man I like those escapes. I hadn't seen those yet.

      It will be interesting to see how well they work.

    Man, that escape board would sure make my life easier! 😍😍

      I am anxious to try them out. The sad part is most of my honey has been pulled already for the year but I still have a couple packing Goldenrod in the supers. I hope to test the escape board with those colonies and share the results.

    I love these top feeders. I have 4 going at the moment. Over winter I put in dry sugar without the caps. In spring put the caps back in and feed syrup. I overwintered a Medium NUC with one of these. I am in New Zealand, so just coming into spring now.

    Very nice! I only have one hive so I was planning on just shaking the bees off the honey frames and quickly placing them in an empty super, cover and repeat. I have heard a lot about using escapes but I have never seen anything like that before. Very interesting. As far as those plastic frames, I like what I see! I don't know why but honestly the first thing that popped into my mind is "I wonder if you could 3D print these?" That's a whole new investment though, haha!
    I'm looking forward to seeing how all of this performs! Thanks for sharing J.C!

      Oh the old shaking and cover trick, that will work as long as your fast. lol I've done that a few times with success. I like the idea of 3D printer frames but I wonder if that would be cheaper, probably not. I already want a 3D printer, I just need to have good story why I need it to explain to my wife. lol I have a linked saved where you can print all kinds of beekeeping stuff, like queen cages. I had a friend print me a wrench that fit my honey gate and it turned out to be really strong, I figured it would be weak and flexible. From what I have seen you can get a decent printer for around $300 but I have no idea what the refills cost and how long they last. Looks fun though!

      If I had more than one hive I may look into a different option for bee removal but I figured shaking would work well enough for my first year. Yeah I'm not sure about the cost effectiveness of 3D printing them either but... if you just had one just "sitting around" it would make for a fun experiment, *wink, wink* haha!

    I am wondering if the bees might use propolis to cap those little hexagons on the plastic frame edge - to permanently trap hive beetles inside. When you make your video, please comment on that. Thank you for this video, its great.

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's very possible they do trap the beetles in those holes. I will be sure to watch for that and share the results.

    Love your videos, and I appreciate all your info that you put out. I checked the prices on those feeders and they are really proud of the high prices on them. If you only have one or two hives it would not be to expensive, but if you have several hives, well let me say there are cheaper alternatives.

      Where did you look at the prices? Did you follow the links in the video description?

    Thanks Jason for sharring this. Yes I saw the video from the Dirtrooster so it gave me a good heads up. I am amazed at the new stuff that is comming out for bee keepers. Even Mannlake had new equipement on their site, all to make things easier for both the bee keeper and the bees. Good one. Bee safe. Tim PS: will you do another video for winterizing your hives? Later.

    Great Video, not a fan of plastic frames...still have places for hive beetles to hide. the bee escapes are interesting & I like the nuc feeders, only question is: it looks like they can sqeeze through the middle between the feeders. Guess I'll wait for you to set it up. Plus, plastic frames are hard to cut Queen Cells off of! Your Queen Rearing series is great...thanks for putting it together! Richard Noel mentioned you in his grating video!

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct about the nuc feeder board, I had it turned the wrong way. It actually goes with the widest part laying flat as you will see in my up coming nuc feeder video. I have not issues with plastic as long as it's well coated in wax. You are correct about not being able to cut cell from it though but I raise my own queens so that has never been a problem for me.
      Glad you enjoyed the Queen Rearing Series. Richard and I are friends of Facebook, super nice guy. Thanks for letting me know that he gave me a shout out.

      Jason Chrisman do you have any discount codes for the feeders just wondering.

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry man, I don't have any discount codes. If I were to give any tips to save a few $$, it would be to check around. Check the 3 places I listed to sell the products in the video description and see if any of those offer it cheaper than the others. I figure in time the feeders will be on Amazon but not sure what the prices will be. Another tip would be to wait until Ceracell gets all the kinks worked out. Selling product in the US is very expensive due to the shipping they pay to get the product here, I am hoping once they get stocked to see prices even out a little bit. Best of luck!

    Jason, odd question but bees do a cleansing flight but when does the Queen go do her business?

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      She doesn't go outside to do it, as far as I know the bees just clean up after her.

      Yep the attendant bees take care if both ends, its a messy job when you've only got a mouth to do it but somebodies gotta do it.

    Hi mate im from aus and use the ceracell 10 frame top feeder or did , i had a massive suger ant problem i would go to change the syrup and there were hundreds of ants floating in the syrup .I tried everything cinnamon ,dimatasious earth even a ant bait and they just laughed at me . I went to the ceracell in hive feeder and no more ant problem they would probably be good in winter but for our summer starting out i would use a in hive feeder if you have an ant problem .

      I understand that completely! I was in the same shoes a few weeks ago when DirtRooster shared his video, then about 4 days later Ceracell contacted me. lol Ceracell makes very nice equipment.

      I tried to order 30 nuc feeders like the one they sent you but they wanted $600 just for shipping.

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Where did you order from? Ceracell? I would check with the places listed in the US, they are listed in the video description. It's very pricey to have a package sent from New Zealand to the US.

    • @godsstandards
      @godsstandards 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried to order them from Ceracell because no one carries them in the US.

    • @JCsBees

      Give it a little time and the links in the video description will carry them and you'll saves hundreds of dollars.

    Hi
    Great video. I really don't like plastic frames with nasty black color

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really? I think the black foundation makes the eggs are larvae easy to see.

  • @toddachten2224
    @toddachten2224 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm not a big fan of the plastic frames. Way to flimsy and the side bars and bottom bar is weak and easily broken. I have noticed that the bees will turn those slots into cells and the queen lays them up with eggs. They suck at cleaning up for reuse too. I may just have to get a few of those frames next year and try them out.

      Ever had any stored and get mud dauber nests on them...good luck cleaning that off enough to get bees to take to it. You get a perfect hole in the drawn comb.
