I heard Tav has hours of voice lines like the others, but Larion removed them to make the player feel more like it’s them. I wish they had given us the option of if we wanted to use the voice lines or not.
I wonder if that's true? If it is, really wish that there was an option to enable it! I do realize most people will prefer silence to superimpose their own inflation and mannierisms onto the dialogue lines, but how wonderful would it be if we were able to do a second - or third or whatever - playthrough with it enabled even if just for how different it would all feel? Really, really wish this were an option!
Could've done it like the first Saints Row game - have Tav speak very rarely, but give them the funniest lines in the game.
No, Tav was never recorded like that, one of their VA's for Tav was just quoted as saying he recorded thousands of lines for the game, but that the majority of them were either instance specific or party reaction type lines. Larian has never made a fully voiced protag, and Tav actually has quite a bit of lines here and there in comparrison to previous games lol.
I really do wish they went a fully-voiced route, but can you imagine how many tens of thousands of lines each actor would have? They'd each be getting a larger job individually than even the lady who plays the narrator has, and her line recordings were a monumental amount of work
Well tav have line, but not in cinematic dialogue. But for the in game reaction to environment
A terrible decision
Tav literally be like "oh no... anyway let's loot that mf"
Tav/Durge's only consistent character trait no matter the player is that they are obsessed with looting everything.
Every true rpg player is obsessed with looting everything so it doesn't break immersion, 10/10 Larian foresight @@primrosett
@@primrosettEXACTLY what every player is thinking. It’s perfect.
Tav deep down is probably like the embodiment of Greed itself, just masked as a gallivanting hero
guys I think we might want to check the corpses for valuables
Gods I never thought of doing that, what gave you the idea?
Well what's done is done I guess
I wish they kept this. Everyone talking except for our Tav is so weird since we're just standing in silence and staring at everyone
No, you say that but then you get it and you hate it. It's happened before multiple times. You end up hating your own PC when they're outright contradictions to what you built
@@sparxskywriter2589 lol projecting much? XD
Who are you to tell someone what their preference is? PLENTY of games have an amazing voiced protagonist, and in the case of this game that's why there's different voices, for some variety to fit your RP for your PC
@@sparxskywriter2589 Well aren't you projecting your own dislikes onto someone on the internet. You have no idea the types of games I play outside of this lmao. I happen to like voice acting, and I wish Tav could talk because it'd make the game even better for me personally.
I don’t think it’s any worse than the taking 10 seconds to respond verbally situation you get if they can speak
@@sparxskywriter2589I personally enjoy voice acting in my RPGs. It’s weird having a ton of choices and being a complete mime while everyone else talks. It breaks the immersion for me.
I love how each Tav has their own personality in their body langage and tone :) just like the origin characters...
How would You characterise each Tav? In a few words, or more if You wish
@@kapitan19969838I don't have fucking time for that, mate 😂 sorry
I really wish we had the option to use voices if we wanted to, like Mass Effect.
damn i didn’t know you could do that in mass effect
@@yesyesyes-gb5twNot exactly. Shepard is always voiced in Mass Effect, but they're always voiced by Mark Meer or Jennifer Hale depending on if your Shepard is male or female
I'm impressed that they've got their own gestures and such, too, matching the voice's intonation
thank you for this! I think all of tav's voice actors/lines are so good. definitely wish we had a few more tav speaking scenes, especially during sweet moments with our preferred partners. 🥰
Voice 4 is absolutely my favorite female voice, it’s so pleasant
Same, actually!
aw a shame they put this on the route not many people go for, but thank you for showing ALL of tav's voice options!
Voice 3 is my favourite, sich a soothing voice, I overuse it for certain
I really like your Tav 1 ! The voice 1 and his appearance together is a divine match 😩❤ my favorites are 1, 3 and 4
Voice 3 is smooth as butter~~ and the voice fits the character very well.🥰😍
Developers: "We really want the protagonist to talk, but we are also afraid of the gatekeepers."
My character talked when you first entered the cursed lands, I was like WTF?
Man, Male 7 sounds almost like Hawke from Dragon Age 2.
It does, it sounds almost exactly like male Hawke to me. Wouldn't that have been so much fun? I would have played through with this voice over and over.
all your tavs are so beautiful!
I wish Tav was full voiced. I don't understand why people dislike fully voiced maincharacters. Fallout 4 got so much shit for it.
Because they have 8 different voices to choose from. That's a lot of extra work. Not to mention, if a performance is bad, then it's a slog to sit through. I'm fine with voiced characters, when they have a personality that's already set. Geralt being voiced is fine because he's a pre-established character we're inhabiting. Even if we can influence his choices, he's still him.
For games that place a greater emphasis on making YOUR own character, it's a lot more hit and miss. The nuances of performance that communicate personality simply can't be there for every possible way someone wants to play. Non voiced is fine
@@StUCabooselet the people have their own opinions. What’s “fine” for you is not fine for them. I hate seeing my Tav just STARRING with his arms crossed or his eyebrow risen in response for every damned line. I like the game, but that looks stupid and breaks my immersion. What’s the point of even giving the PC a voice, if you hear that voice three times in a game?
@@victoreyre4072 No one's saying you can't have your own opinion. Obviously my take is my own opinion. But too many people wish for a fully voiced Tav without stopping to think why they didn't do it in the first place. As I mentioned above, having 8 unique voices, not to mention all the Origin characters as well, would be a mammoth undertaking to fully voice. With all the literal thousands of options accounting for various backgrounds, class choices, and story deviations, that is an exponential amount work that needs to be done. In terms of what Larian was trying to do, as in give as much freedom to choose and truly make your own character, they absolutely made the right call with the voice thing. The trade off with fully voiced protagonist is that it's inherently more limiting, unless they're going to fully voice every possible player character in the game. It's just not worth it. And if you end up not liking the voice acting for the choice you picked, well, sucks for you I guess. Either pick a different voice, even if it doesn't fit the character you made, or suffer the immersion breaking
Is it kind of dumb to have Tav just stand there silent? I suppose it can be. Doesn't bother me, but to each their own. Why do they have you pick a voice anyway? I imagine that's obvious since that's the voice we hear during exploration, as a form of audio feedback. At least if you don't like the voice you picked, it's easier to ignore that than sit through whole conversations. And there's also the fact that Larian recorded lines for spells and such for each possible voice. So they naturally need each player to have some sort of voice for stuff like that. The list goes on. If trying to come up with a voice in your head is immersion breaking, well, that's your problem. We all have our own opinions. And obviosuly what works for some won't work for others, but it's not hard to understand their reasons for doing it the way they did
I personally like the idea of a personal character having a voice. Hogwarts Legacy gives the character a voice and it’s perfect for immersion. I hate playing a character who’s completely mute other than being able to scream or yell.
@@victoreyre4072 You hear the voice every time you select the character or make them do anything, like the other party members, same as in the other Baldur’s Gate games. Better picking one than not being given any choice as to what they sound like and getting sick of the same vocalisations and pain sounds. Your character also stops and stares while you’re picking a response with voiced characters as well. If you’re managing to pick them faster than that in a game, the dialogue options are super shallow
i'd love for lines to be va'd tbh, but i imagine it would be so much work...
7th voice is really great, and I think, I definitely heard it somewhere before.
If you’ve played Dragon Age 2, it sounds an awfully lot like Nicholas Boulton, who voices a male Hawke. I am 99% convinced that’s who it is even if the game doesn’t explicitly credit him
@@GabbyPlaysGames02 They indeed sound similar, especially the red/aggressive Hawke lines and that would explain a lot about why it sounded so similar as I had been re-playing the second part even more than Origins, but indeed I can't find any mentions of Nicolas to BG3.
I had my Tav speak in a cutscene for the first time, during my 2nd play through. Happened arriving in the shadow cursed area. Didn’t have anything during my 1st play through though it was a pleasant surprise!
Played a drow, huh?
@@wtr3059 how did you know??
@@CptQuinnElle seems like it's working only for drow. my dragonborn didn't say shit even though I reloaded savefile several times
@@uselence ah that’s a shame
I would like Tav could speak they give us some voices to choose and sound very good 😢
Tav no matter the character, no matter the voice, they will always rob a grave
Voice #6 supremacy! ❤️
I kinda assumed they where fully voice at one point or supposed to be just as Dark urge was supposed to be the main character. The final scene of The Dark urge is also voiced so it would have made sense if all the voice options had more voices lines might have been nice to have a ‘voiced dialogue’ toggle option I wouldn’t personally use it but I know some would.
I would understand if it ate at the budget too much. I mean, 8 voices for every voiceline? I just wish they'd at least done it for the origin companion characters. I don't need to imagine myself what they sound like anyways. It's really awkward to have usually chatty characters fall silent in another playthrough, just because you're playing as them.
It would also give more incentive to play as them rather than playing a custom Tav/DUrge all the time.
@@wtr3059that is a fair point, but it would have been cool if they did it for even just one male and female voice. Then at least it could be an option for people who would enjoy it, without making it such an ordeal production-wise.
I personally like what I call semi-mute protagonist. They are characters that never speak verbally, but their speech or dialogue is inplied by others or selected by the player. That, or they only verbally speak outside of dialogue events, such as Tav here does. Allows me to do my own voice acting for practice, as I aspire to one day do it professionally.
i wish we had this option!!! To have a fully-voiced Tav! Even their body movements are different with each one! Love the little detail that matches how they say it
I wish they would add it to all voice lines by Tav
This is what I was just talking about with my husband. I want to feel…more emotion or connection with my tav and having the voiced dialogue is something that could’ve helped. Besides the dark urge, tav doesn’t really have any plot lines where they’re the one that need cheering up, help with a problem, etc.
Random non important example, but this play through, I’m playing as a seldarine drow. I think it would be interesting if after a few times NPCs offer quip remarks about my Tav being a drow, a companion that I have a high rating with could step in saying something to that NPC or they could make a comment about it after it.
There are other little interactions like that I could imagine would work.
I guess I don’t really know the best way to explain it but having more tav lines voiced, especially if they already have the voice files, would be a little change that would go a long way to making it seem like our tav is a character instead of an avatar.
(But obviously this is just a little critique I have because I love bg3)
I feel the same way! And I had the same discussion with my husband, we both agree that Tav could have been voiced. Also… we’re sad that we can’t romance each other when we play together 🥺
Oh shush. Go make a better game then. They did great
@@greyngreyer5 You must’ve not read the part that said how much I love this game and that this was such a little critique/wish I had.
Of course it’s a freaking fantastic game. It’s one of my favorite games if not my top favorite. I have 300+ hours in the game, have done 2 play throughs and I’m co-oping with my husband on another play through.
As far as my comment goes, I didn’t say anything negative about what’s already in the game, in fact, what I said was more related to how I want to be more connected to a game that I already love. I only said anything because it was something I thought about and the video reminded me of it.
Nothing I said insults the game itself. I honestly don’t see why my comment would come across as offensive, but if I missed something, please explain it to me.
@@BriCozy Don't mind me. I'm actually just bitter about spending the 10th Valentine's Day alone ^-^ yoohoo
Voice 5 is my absolute favorite
I love Voice 07 for my Tav, I swear he sounds like Hawke from Dragon Age 2
I need that DU voice 5 narrating my game...
As awesome as it is to see these I'm actually glad they scrapped these...
Voice 3 🥰
I personally feel disconnected from my character when they do not speak. I don't care about having room to imagine it's me-- I just want to hear my character say words with the mouth that they have bruh. While I prefer playing female characters as I identify that way I begin to not give a shit about how much my character seems like me when I hear them speak and show emotion. D&D is a roleplaying game, not a pretend it's me in another universe game. I am upset that tav gets so little chances to speak.
I don't like voiceless Mc but kinda understand why...
I think Tav/player character didin't talk because it kinda slow... Image you pick a dialogue -> then Tav say that dialogue -> then others respond -> then you pick a dialogue again -> Then Tav say the same thing again.
It just slow down the game too much.
The voice 7 tiefling Tav HELLO SIR
What’s done is done - but we should check the corpses for valuables.
I am someone who kind of enjoys voiced characters, i wish we'd have gotten a fully voiced Tav.
Voice 8 is my favourite. She kind of sounds like Caitronia Balfe from Outlander.
I hope they add more lines.
The hidden voiced lines should be added via a patch. I love voiced protagonists.
I like 1, 3, 4 and 8 best.
Tav also has 1 instance of party banter with Lae'zael if you initiate the nuke at the creche but disarm it.
I don't think Tav directly talks to anyone as party banter in the game, they normally just think outloud to themselves
He talks with shadow when she fails the fear check on wolves. But I think that's it
There's a few places where that happens. They have some with Astarion after confronting Zevlor and Aradin right at the beginning of the game, as well as some in act 2 with him and Shadowheart. There's also some 4-way banter with Tav, Astarion, Gale and Shart in Balthazar's secret lab. It honestly tends to happen with either Astarion or Shadowheart more than anyone else; i have never heard them banter with Gale alone, Karlach, Wyll or Laezel in anywhere but at the Creche. Shart and Ast's VA must have been easier to get to record stuff for bc they seem to get way more dialogue than anyone else.
I absolutely loved Dragon Age Inquisition for actually letting the Main Character speak the lines you pick. This is the only big thing I'm missing in BG3. At the very least an option to toggle voice on or off. Because personally I hate it when everyone talks and has a personailty but my cusotm character is a dead shell that never talks. (outside of some rare special voice lines)
I'm pretty sure Tav had one of those monologue-like lines (about traps & treasures?) in the ruins where we found Withers, and was responded to by Shadowheart, I think? it wasn't a general successful-perception-check line, more detailed & opinionated, and it pulled up the subscriptions too, so...? that probably means it was actually out loud...? (tiefling bard tav, if that has any effect on it maybe?)
I wish we could choose to have our Tav voiced 🥺
Wow that first Tav looks super similar to my first Tav, only difference is that they were a half drow
im so upsrt abt this I WANT TO HEAR MY TAV SO BADD
Ooo! Can I get to know the Voice 5 Tav? Astarion & I could have a new playmate 😏
i wish they at least added voice acting for the scene in act 3 when you’re trying to hype up all of your allies before the fight. feels weird choosing one option and it immediately going into cheering lol
Tav: 0:28 whats done is done- SURVIVED TO SEE ANOTHER DAY, THE DANCE OF LIFE, THE HUNTER AND THE AGILE PREY, NO GUARANTEE WHICH OF THEM WILL SUCCEED, STRONG OR WEAKKKK! RULES OF NATUREEEEEEE, RULES OF NATUREEEEEE!!!
I wish they kept this.. Ugh as much as I hate ai usage for voice acting, unless we can pay the original voice actors for a mod where all of these quotes are voiced, using ai with a mod could be amazing.
Voice 6 sounds like me i wish there was option to keep or out
Tav voice 1, 2, 3 especially, 6 and 8 are my favorite Tav voices.
1, definitely for male.
2, 6 and 8 I'm wavering on which one to pick.
Edit: in this camp scene male voice 3 beats 1 by a long shot, but by watching more youtube videos - Tav (m,1) is definitely the defacto voice for male players.
And Tav (f,8) is the defacto voice for female players. It's just so good.
To each their own that I still believe female voice 6 is awesome too but 8 is strongest.
This is why my grizzled dwarf character doesn't sound right.
These seem like leftover Reflection Dialogues from DOS2. There weren't really banters in that game, instead the whole party could pick a little voiced line to react to something that happened.
Postscriptum: The explanation what happened is at the very end of the video.
Out of curiosity: What exactly happened before?
It seems there was some fight instead or additionally to the feast (with the Goblins?)?
Durge?
i think this happens when you raid grove and side with minthara, then at the camp party you can reject minthara's sex offer and whole goblins will attack your party
@@nodforkiss Wow! Goblins will attack you because you don't want to have sex with Minthara? What a b*tch!
Thank you! I did know, that I don't like her .... even when she is interesting/hilarious many times.
Voice 2
Can you tell what settings used for landon pleease?
im so sad oh my god i wanted the voice line so bad after getting just crumbs in exploration
How do you trigger this???
is this where you kill the goblins in the goblin party?
Where my voice 7 bros at
Dude thats like my main complaint about rpgs is that my character doesnt talk.
Lol femcel Minthara tries to kill you if you reject her.
How do you enable it tho?
so... did they check the corpses for valuables??
Is it still possible to trigger this cutscene in the game?
How do you get other voices is it because of different races?
Pick one in the character creation screen.
Are these lines still *in the game* somewhere?
What event triggers this scene? Can’t tell haha
First tav is kinda hot🫣
how do you get this scene?
wait, what Cutscene is it.. did i miss a Goblin Rave party?
I'm not 100% because I passed the check in my playthrough.
This happens after you side with the goblins and attack the grove in act 1, they hold the party at your camp rather than the tieflings.
There should be a check after you've spent your night, fail them and your guests will turn on the party
Judging by that last thing Gale says, it happens if you align with Minthara in Act 1. Apparently, this crazy bch slaughters both the tieflings *and* the goblins. Wow.
If you raid the grove with the goblins, Minthara and the raiding party spend the night partying with you.
During that time, Minthara starts to lose the Absolute's influence due to her proximity to the Astral Prism overnight.
In a state of confusion and panic, she accuses you of heresy. Should you fail to convince her otherwise, this happens.
If you succeed in convincing her you are loyal to the Absolute, she moves onto Moonrise and you can meet her there.
That info is literally at the end of the video lol
@@daliblue_ No, the comment "explaining" at the end of the video doesn't mention that Minthara needs to attack you first after you fail to convince her you aren't an heretic. If you attack the goblins without reason there's no cutscene where the narrator and your Tav talk, but you'll still get the companions' dialogue.
They're all brits? lol
What happened to get this scene
What route is this??
How do you get this? Lmao
What situation is this from?
Nah I’m glad tav is silent, I hate my character talking in cyberpunk. I pick one dialogue and she says a totally different thing, and her personality is set in stone because of the voice acting. I imagined her differently when I made her 🥲
"pick one dialogue and she says a totally different thing" - Isn't a "talking" issue.
If the dialogue line says: "Sure, I'll help" and you click it thinking you will say "sure, I'll help" BUT what your character actually says is" HAHAH HELP?! YOU!??!" - That is not a having a voiced character issue, it's the developers not making it clear which option is supposed to be the actual "sure, I'll help" option, or just mixing up the options entirely .
I hate when they do this in rpgs, if my character has no voice, it doesn't change that things like this suck.
Well..
i hate silent protagonist..
I don't even know..
How ppl relate to them
or why like them!!
someone??
Oh! I wish AI could do this voicings for all the TAV words
