    Today we're going to be taking a look at the Thule Canyon XT Roof Cargo Basket, with extension. It's part number TH859XT-8591XP. This Thule Canyon XT Roof Cargo Basket is larger than most, allowing you to maximize your vehicle's carrying capacity. You can keep larger bulky items from taking up too much space inside your vehicle or keep dirty or damp here from soiling the inside. Other similar roof baskets have a boxier design. The tapered edges are going to make unloading and loading easy. It's going to work with your round, square, arrow, elliptical, and most factory roof rack systems.
    Most other roof baskets only clamp to your vehicle's roof rack system. Not only can you do that with the Thule Canyon, but you can also use your roof rack's T-slot if it has one. This roof basket's faring and low profile design help minimize drag and wind noise when heading down the road. It's made out of a steady, tubular steel construction with a black powder coat finish so it's going to resist rust and corrosion. It's dimensions are 69 inches long, 40 inches wide, and 6 inches deep. You can remove the center extension and reduce it's overall length by 20 inches.
    It has a weight capacity of 150 pounds though you'll want to be sure and check with your vehicle's owner's manual to see if your roof can carry that much. The Thule Canyon XT features a limited lifetime warranty. It's very easy to get installed. Let's go ahead and show you that now. I've already got my mounting plates installed on my basket here. I've got it measured out to match the distance of my cross bars.
    You'll also need to be sure you have a minimum distance of 20 inches. Go ahead and load it up. Then we'll center it up. Now when positioning it on your roof rack system, you'll want to be sure to leave just enough room so you can open up your rear hatch. Now we can grab our U bolts.
    They come in 3 different sizes, depending on your cross bar's thickness. We're going to use the medium one here so we'll go underneath our cross bar, come up through the mounting plate. Then we'll take 2 flat washers, place those over top and then 2 thumb screws. Get those started. Once you've got them tightened down evenly, we can go ahead and repeat the same process with the other 3 sides. Now we can put on our cover. We need to be sure that the side with the hole here matches up with the mounting plate portion here so we'll line it up, make sure it goes in the hole, and then we're going to bring it around and push it in place. Then we can lock it up. Now you do have the option to remove the plastic lock and put in the Thule locking core. You can pick up 4 of those with part number TH544. Now if you want to and your cross bars are T-slot compatible, you can use the included T-bolts instead of the clamps. There's just a hole here in the center of the mounting plate that you would use and then one of the thumb screws. With everything tightened down and secured, let's go ahead and load up some cargo and then we're ready to hit the road. That's going to complete our look at the Thule Canyon XT Roof Cargo Basket with extension, part number TH859XT-8591XT.

    Are there any aftermarket cargo nets that you can suggest? The 692 stretch net sold by Thule is too price for a net imo

      You definitely could! You just want to make sure you have got them tied down well enough so they do go anywhere.

    Good to know that all the locks hold down is a piece of plastic that you can replace for $7

      The plastic nut is to make it easier to screw on. It has a metal nut inside it.

      @@danielalien I'm referring to the foot-packs, not the crossbar. They legit just hold down a plastic door that's locked to another piece of plastic.

    How noisy is it

    • @etrailer
      @etrailer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will have a little bit of added wind noise from this roof basket but the real noise will come from the items that you add to the basket.
