Getting an 800 made me appreciate my 600 even more. Not a bad tool, was just expecting more for the price. Extending the lead feels way nicer on the cheaper 600
I bought my first rotring about 5 years ago it was randomly on sale i knew nothing about pens and pencils it just had good reviews so I purchased it. 5 years later I’m obsessed with this brand and only use rotring . I own every color way in the 600 and 800 and even got the limited edition Japan models too haha 😂. The only thing that bugs me about the 800 is that the twist mechanism begins to rattle and loosen after some time.
@@chessfan my favorite model is the yellow 600, But I had to pay a lot for it. My favorite model to actually use is the 800 because it has a tad more weight to it and it feels superior. The inside parts are used with actual metal parts instead of plastic that is used in the 600. I do believe the 800 is worth the price.
1. Years ago I bought a 600, which I love and use daily. I have in fact dropped it three times directly on the tip, which I did my best to straighten. Not perfect, but it works fine. So though the 800's retractable tip looks like a pointless gimmick, I can state that there is a valid use case. Once I drop it enough to break it, I will replace it with another 600. I just don't like the useful gimmick of the 800. 2. For me the spinning lead grade indicator is a useless gimmick, as in regular use it doesn't stay in place.
@@Unlucky1776 Well you could try to straighten the bent tip with pliers. Or look for the 800 to go on sale. By the way it is pretty easy to stop the wobble on the 0.5 tipped 800. After that you can put in your pocket, if you don’t mind the powder coating to come of gradually. To be honest, all of the Rotrings have little kinks, like being way too heavy for comfort. These days I am mostly using my Leuchturm pencil.
@@Unlucky1776 Is it lighter? Did not see one in person. However, just discovered the Blick mechanical pencil, offered in 0.5, 0.7. Kind of blends the Alvin Draftmatic (cylindrical barrel) with Rotring 800 ( Double knock). Want to get one in my hands…The search goes on, as the collection grows !
Did you know that there is a mechanical pencil from Rotring Company called Rapid Pro? It has 2 legendary characteristics, which were She was ahead of her time. The nib comes out mechanically, or the pen lengthens the nib without pressing the pen from the back - just pressing the pen while writing, the nib comes out automatically. Secondly, the Chubb feature is the nib protection feature that is present in the Zebra pencil called Dell Guard to protect the lead from broken .
🤔Wonder how my life could be without all (+ 20) those 600's and 800's that i have?😅🤭🤗 My 2 cents: First, black finnish will disappear with some use..silver is more durable. Second:the 800 that i use daily does have a harsh and almost impossible sometimes problem with the retractable mechanism...😥Wobbling of the point also a bit disapointing in the 800. Both are made in Japan..like the 500 series also.
It's unquestionable the 800 has a functional and elegant engineering advantage, but the 600 just feels like a Graphgear 500 with a metal body for over thrice the price. If you really want one of these, I say go big.
On Amazon Prime Day 2022, I purchased the Rotring 800 .5mm Pencil for $24.99. It was the only real Rotring deal I could find.
Yea that was the only legit pen/pencil deal i saw.
I just got a rotring 600 on prime day for 19.99!
the cleaning rod really made me proud I have struggled so much with led jam. I genuinely felt happy just hearing that.

@geed hernandez .... whats your favorite model ? do you think that the 800 is worth the price ?
Same here. Got mine at a flea market under 20 bucks. I can't see any flaws.

@@TheNunakun under 20 is a steal! If it’s a vintage model then those are worth even more
This the weakness of 800 care your 600 and its simple and more durable who ever use rotring cant use any other
It's on my list, haven't gotten them yet - I'm using pens mostly right now but next year I'm writing something big entirely in pencil and want those!
Super satisfied with my 600, kept the little case they sent it in to keep it safe

Yeah, I tend to go with the 600. I do have a soft spot for the 800 pen, even though the retraction doesn't really make a big difference.
Have a replacement tip for my .7mm on its way. Took me a year to finally drop and bend...🤬
Absolutely love the Rotring pencils!
I have 600..but i think the logo rOtring on clip not so good on letter "g"
Does the twist on the 800 add any additional wobble to the tip vs the set tip of the 600?
Yea but it’s very slight
5:21 interesting... Back when I was elementary school, we just use lead and insert it from the tip. It works.
Extending lead is nicer on 600. But you can’t put it in your pocket. You’d have to toss it if drops off your desk. It’s 800 all the way for me.
Wdym toss it?

Do you know if the knurled grip is plated brass or some other metal?
Painted brass
Any pencil without retractable sleeve is a no for me. So this ones easy, 800 all the way
Have you used the Ohto Super Promecha? Do you feel the rotring is better than that?
Yes. And I prefer the rotring
Is the rotring 800 already developed the tips more stable ?
No
is the silver version also painted brass?
Yes both are brass

What lead does it use to
Mine came with 0.5mm hb
@@unsharpen ok so does any brand of lead work
Yes!
I feel that the comparison between drafting and general writing is strange. A ballpoint pen would be fine.
Cool video
Thank you
first, wanna buy something rotring.
600 is a great starting point. Or you can do a Tikky etc to save cash
