    Yes! The perception is slowly changing for the better. I have Pinoy co-workers here in Southern Calif who never really cared about PH or even considered going back, but those guys are slowly having a change of heart. I am moving back to PH as soon as possible, and so are a few of my colleagues. I recently read that more and more Filipinos living abroad are reclaiming their Filipino citizenship. I don't remember the exact figures, but the number of applications for dual citizenship by Pinoys is the highest it has ever been, according to that article. I honestly appreciate you for promoting BGC and the other vloggers who are based in BGC. Every little thing counts to hopefully influence a change in how PH is viewed by outsiders. Remember, not too long ago, BGC, Ortigas Center, Alabang Center, and Bay City, to name a few, were all wastelands or slums. The area where Oakda, Solaire Hotel, and other establishments in that area were built on reclaimed land in the last decade. The Philippines has come a long way in the last decade, and the country is just starting, so of course there are still a lot of those impoverished and depressed areas. Progress does not happen overnight, but the PH is certainly heading in the right direction.

      Agree, the infrastructure and quality of life have improved in these privately owned developments. But what is also important is the cultural evolution of the Philippine people.
      The work ethic, consideration for the environment, quality of service and integrity must be inline with the material gains. If not, the better world of the Philippines will remain in these tightly controlled bubble cities.
      And correct me if I'm wrong, but the "hurry up and wait" occurs even in BGC and Makati.

    Awww... thanks for the shout out guys! Totally wasn't expecting that. You guys are awesome and we love the topics you guys discuss. This particular discussion is something Jerry and I always talk about. We feel the same with what Jenny was saying that our parents generation were all OFWs trying to find a better life during hard times. And a lot of them stayed abroad and didn't want to come back. I grew up not really knowing much about the Philippines since my parents never really showed an interest. And I think it's common with most people of our generation and now even the younger generation is craving what they've been "deprived" of. Ahh! Can't wait to sit down and talk more about this with you guys. This is so relatable. My younger cousins were just here a few weeks ago for the first time and they loved it! i guess when we say 3rd world country it looks very underdevelop like you can still see huts, the city streets are still not pave off like its literracy muds, alot of rubbish and garbage, the river are polluted, badsmells, alot of shanties houses, no toilet, no proper bathroom, the people has no clothes, everything goes really poor and really sad. no education, no opportunities, no transportation and ect. i think the best example are those country in Africa and some latin american countries and some asian countries like afganistan, india, bangladesh, pakistan,nepal, cambodia, myanmar, laos timor leste, they are still considered as 3rd world. Philippines has been surpassed that category decades ago. lastly, Philippines has a strong economy and the cities are rapidly improving towards a modern City best example are BGC, MAKATI, ORTIGAS and some more.

    • @BGCDreams

    I’m half Filipino and half Ecuadorian. I was in El Nido during Christmas break with my family and we loved it despite boat tours being canceled 7 of 8 days we were there. We made the most of land tours on the days boat tours were cancelled and got to visit waterfalls, caves, and of course beaches including very secluded ones. We also visited Bangkok, Phuket, and Singapore during our vacation. Bangkok and Manila have many similarities but it is sad to see how behind Manila is in terms of infrastructure as a metropolitan city. El Nido and Phuket are also similar but again Phuket is decades ahead in terms of infrastructure. Hopefully the next 20 years the Philippines will catch up to other Southeast Asian countries like Thailand. Phuket is too commercialized in my opinion and El Nido has the more laid back vibe but needs a lot of infrastructure investments from the government to compete with Phuket and Bali as a top Southeast Asian vacation destination.

    As a Filipino I can say your opinion is valid in thinking the Filipino would look a certain way. The Philippines is a developing country and it was a developing country before until the Marcos was ousted. It went downhill after that. Philippines isn’t exposed enough because I feel whoever is in charge of Philippines tourism is doing a horrible job for decades. If you look around Bay Area you will not see one billboard or advertisement inviting foreigners to visit the Philippines. If you watch television you see mostly tourism ad for South American destinations and Europe. I hate when news or documentaries always showcase the poverty and horrible places in the Philippines. That’s not the only places there are to see.

      That's a great point and thanks for sharing! I hadn't though of that and when I do think back... I don't remember seeing any tourism ads about the Philippines when I was living in the states, or growing up there... Yup, back in the day it was always about the poverty and "horrible places" but never any of the new developments... I guess that's a huge part as to why we want to highlight all the new construction, developments, townships, etc. going on here. Cheers!

I decided to stay study agriculture and remained a farmer deeply experiencing the political and economic struggles. Though employed but financially not stable for being a small farmer. Still no regrets because i am embracing the phil life, thats all matters.. Ever since I found your vlog by accident a year ago I think, I've been watching your videos regularly, very very noice, I agree with all points you guys made, especially with your point on how safe The Philippines is compared to other countries especially "perceived 1st world ones", as a filipino who became active in politics ( and also wishes you discuss the topic from an outsider point of view of what your thoughts are on our countrys politics bcuz I think it's one of the most intriguing things about the Philippines, just word of advice, don't take sides, especially when talking about Ferdinand Marcos both the father and son, and President Duterte, just think of them as both Republican and Democrats COMBINED, republicans and their Donald trump cult of personality and Democrats with how fiercely devout they are to the cause and very influential, had it not been for TH-cam disabling the dislikes, anyone who went against Marcos during the May 9 2022 elections be it John Oliver to vice to bloomberg to LaoWhy and China Uncensored wouldve gotten mass disliked ) first was American then Filipino Politics ( I'm objectively sure that Filipino Politics is more interesting and complex than American Politics, American Politics is easy for beginners even if it seems difficult to understand at first, you mainly just have to focus on Republicans and Democrats and go from there, CHOOSE YOUR SIDE, those are the two main Political Parties in the US who have a stranglehold in the country, in the Philippines, I don't even remember or know of all the Political Parties, Fun Fact, unlike the US which is a two party system, the Philippines is a multi party system, the thing about filipino politics, it's not about the political party, but the politician, or what we call, personality politics, or cult of personality quite similar to Donald Trump and the Republican Party, but our filipino personality politics is taken to the extremes, it's filipino politics on the daily, Especially under the former president Rodrigo Duterte, former President Marcos Senior, and Now President Marcos Junior, it's not about the political party, but the politician, politicians are one man/woman political parties, also The Philippines has a history of Political Dynasties, Oligarchs, Alliances, Classicism or stratification like Middle Income Lower Income and Higher Income and so on, very complex with long history ), the main thing that has lead to the United States "downfall" or it's unsafeness, is it's Political Instability, hilarious Considering were the 3rd world country, but our politics is much more stable ahahaha 😂👌 the Republicans and Democrats are going head to head full force, and one of them has to lose, at the moment, it's been a stalemate with both sides gaining and losing ground, with the only thing happening is echo chambers making their supporters more and more radical and extreme, but in the Philippines, there were 2 sides, the liberal yellows, and the green red party, and the green red party won both the battle and the war, also unlike the US where propaganda is easy to do due to it only being 2 parties, all you gotta do is "republican are facist woman haters" and "democrats are communist man haters" and so on, if a democrat tried to attack for example Duterte and try to say he's a right winger republican, duterte die hard supporters could easily debunk that by citing the fact Duterte in the Philippines context is a left wing socialist and there are no republican parties in the Philippines, Duterte is of the "Partido Pederal" or "PDP Laban Party", socialist federalist inclined, CNN can't just paint Duterte as a right winger easily to get democrats to hate him bcuz 'CNN said Duterte is republican".
    A comment from somewhere I got which I don't remember makes filipino politics sound cooler haha 😂👌🇵🇭
    "Filipinos took the American model of democracy and exploited the fuck out of it"
    Another one.
    "In Filipino Politics, there are no permanent political allies, but permanent political ambitions"
    Edit: America is experiencing a deteriorating Politics ( Right wing vs Left Wing ) ,Culture ( Anti Woke and Woke culture ) Society ( mass Shootings, Asian Hate, Destruction of the nuclear family and so on ).

    Not to be too pessimistic but the nice parts of the Philippines are all private developments (BGC, Rockwell, Eastwood, Makati CBD, Rockwell, etc.) Until the government makes a REAL effort to develop the country (such better public transportation, or pro-consumer policies for public utilities, housing, public healthcare, better public education, to name a few), the Philippines still has a long way to go. But hopefully this happens sooner rather than later 🤞 On the other hand the provinces are charming just the way they are. I hope they don't get developed too much 😋

      @@jenelynm2161 Yeah, this mindset must be changed because if we don't change our thinking, we ain't moving forward. Every developed nation has billionaires, big corporations, or, as everyone says, oligarchs as their drivers of economic growth. It is not bad for the Philippines either; in fact, the problem of this country for a long time was not them; it was our own policy of letting them monopolize the businesses in the country, which is why we have few jobs and opportunities. It shows in our FDI that we have the lowest in Asia because we have a protective and nationalistic foreign investment policy. Only a few investors are interested in investing in the country because of that. Now that the government is mending that policy, we are now seeing that more investors are coming in, and soon the monopolization of businesses will be gone. In the future, we will have more job opportunities, a better salary rate, and better and more affordable products and services because there will be healthy competition in businesses, which will surely help our economy to grow even faster

    Would make for good adventure if you could team up with Bianca and Mike of That Philippine Life. They are based in Iloilo and a coordinated trip during one of Iloilo's many festivals would be quite magical for sure.
    Iloilo has a well managed city with a large younger working class. They have a strong Filipino middle class and educated population there with the many modern call centers and business buildings. It is more suited for the younger demographic. Hence although there are retirement expats in Iloilo they do not have the run of the town, unlike the overpopulation of senior expats in Dumaguete.
    Enjoyed your Chinatown visit. As a practicing Lion Dancer I have a feeling not only is the China town there very old, but the Chinese have been gone for quite awhile based upon the Philippine interpretation presented at the event. Evolution and assimilation, it's all good!

A lot of us, when we say America we always have this impression that it's all good and it's the land of milk and honey. But if you watch his videos you would never believe that there are places in US that's is so not looking like America to us. It is so worse that the people living there are leaving and going to other places where the place looks like a ghost town now. The truth is, Binondo's real estate is very expensive. Trade and commerce at its best! Don't wonder why it looks or seems chaotic it's because that district is a money-spinning area where cash is king. There are also several or dozens and dozens of millionaires in Chinatown. Also, the term, "Third World" has already been banned being used in the United Nations (UN) The Philippines is an industrialized country--official. Binondo was the Makati in the old days, before Makati was developed in the 50s. Escolta, part of Chinatown, was the smart IN place to be.The Philippines is actually a real powerhouse in the ASEAN and Asia. It led the race before the EDSA fancy street take-over. Binondo has its own charm as does BGC. It's nice being able to enjoy both districts conveniently. BGC is a bubble and I hope there will be more BGCs in Metro Manila but I also hope Binondo doesn't fall victim to modernization and loses what makes it Binondo.

    • @BGCDreams
      @BGCDreams  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, Binondo is a unique place and I agree that the country could use more BGCs but not everything should look like a bubble city 😅😂 That would be too "cookie cutter" and get really boring after awhile haha Certain places could definitely use a fresh coat of paint and "update" but otherwise, the underlying "charm" just be left intact

    • @JC0820
      @JC0820 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are already more places in Metro Manila that are transforming into BGC-like vibe places: Arcadia City, Ortigas Center, Araneta Center, Festival City, Eastwood City, Aseana City, and don't forget Makati City. Even the Manila Bay area is following that trend. There are so many developments happening in the country, even in the southern parts like Iloilo, Cebu, Bacolod, and Davao, and in the north of Metro Manila, you will find New Clark City, which will also soon look like BGC but 3-5x bigger.

    • @screwupkiddy
      @screwupkiddy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JC0820 While there are a lot of developments, one thing I've noticed is these new townships don't build out the open spaces well to make it nicely walkable. They are mostly condo and commercial developments anchored by a mall. BGC has done a good job of making it very nicely walkable with lots of green spaces.

    • @JC0820
      @JC0820 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@screwupkiddy lol. All modern cities in the Philippines have parks and green spaces; you won't know that until you go there. Filinvest City has much more open space than BGC; Arcadia City has open space also; and even Makati has so much open space and pocket gardens. Don't just look at the buildings. And btw, the trend for community development today is high-rise buildings, so it will be all walkable from work, amendments, markets, etc. Then the rest of the land will be reserved for agriculture and environmental reserves. The Philippines wants to be one of the leaders in that kind of community development.

    • @screwupkiddy
      @screwupkiddy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JC0820 So my original statement is I hope there will be more BGCs and then I followed up with the sentiment that I feel BGC is designed better and more walkable than all the other new developments which I am quite familiar with as well. Filinvest Alabang is very nice but I feel it doesn't have enough commercial developments and is rather isolated and not easily accessible. The one development area I think that is most promising would be the Ortigas East, Parklinks, Bridgetowne, Acovia City, Tendesitas area. If they are able to build them and connect those townships nicely with the right mix of commercial shopping areas and nice walkable open spaces, maybe that area can rival BGC at some point because it would be a cluster of townships in close proximity.

    make sense. i lived and grew up close to Chinatown . i walked daily to work in Chinatown financial district as a young man. bgc, ortigas cbd, and makati cbd and other emerging townships are planned communities own and manage by private developers. outside these bubbles are old, poorly managed cities managed by LGUs. Of all the cities, i think manila city proper is the most dilapidated. no mayors in Manila had the mental acumen and the visions to make manila a first class city. what is killing manila are the illegal street vendors, illegal shanties and spaghetti wires among others. on the positive sides, there are places in Quezon city and Pasig city that look okay. the president should lead the agenda to make Metro manila a first class areas. you should venture out into other cities and townships in MM for enrichment. there are a lot of hidden gems around MM. good luck and have fun.

    For me its the opposite , since i came here in the US 2008, i never encounter a Filipino that doesnt want to comeback Philippines, all of them saying they still want to go back Philippines for good after the retirement even before BGC exist. I myself also wants to do the same . I just hope and pray that God will Bless the Philippines more and show the people that criticizing our Country and Filipinos that they made a mistake by judging without facts , actually there is one vlogger thephilippinetruth that criticizing, insulting and his contents are all overstated and negative regarding our country and our people, which is unfair because he is ruining the Tourism of the Philippines just to gain viewers and subscribers. I’ve been living in Los Angeles for 18 yrs now, but in comparison to BGC, Newport Blvd & Makati where I bought condominiums & presently investing. I would say that BGC & those places that I mentioned is more inviting to live than where I am staying now in West Hollywood. The building houses here looks too old etc. I will definitely retire at BGC, Makati or Tagaytay

    The Philippines is or rather was a Third World country a term used during the Cold War. First World was the Allied powers led by the US and UK and the Second World was the Axis powers that led by the Soviet Union, and the rest was all Third World. This term became redundant and now refers to developing countries. The Philippines is a developing country. BGC is one of the newer modern upscale district, but there are slums and poverty in all the cities of Metro Manila .

    • @BGCDreams
      @BGCDreams  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing the history and origin of that term. I think for more everyday use, especially in America, it just has a very negative stigma and is a lazy way for people to categorize a place that they've never been to that they perceive is underdeveloped. We're just trying to change the tune and narrative of that when it comes to the Philippines. Cheers!

    • @josephinetalaver7064
      @josephinetalaver7064 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish the Government will give a place and relocate those people in the slum area, not only in the Tourist spots but the whole country especially Manila and Cebu which i think has the most slums.

    Good point. Philippines is currently a newly developed /industrialized country. Not developing or 3rd world. 3rd world/developing countries, if you will be technical, are countries /economies based primarily on agriculture.

  • @JC0820
    @JC0820 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah! The Philippines is developing fast, and what I like about it is that they are doing it in a way that is very environmentally friendly and very pro-life, hence it is very livable for anyone, not like in other countries where they just push for development without even thinking of their environment and communities, for example, the mass shooting in the US or the pollution in China. Take a look at what they've done in the Pasig River, Boracay, and Manila Bay; they've cleaned it up. The Pasig River was declared biologically dead, but you can now catch fish in it. If the phase of economic growth in the Philippines continues, 10-20 years from now, the third-world country stereotype will be gone, and I'm sure, many people will love to live here.

    When they say third world they are talking about the 4 million people who are homeless or have homes with no access to clean water or healthy living. Compare the homeless there to the 500,000 homeless in America that those homeless people there have direct access to clean water and have facilities to help them.. That's the difference between first world and third world.

    Actually, binondo has improved a lot. When I was growing up in the 90s, there are only 2 high rise 50 storey towers. Now, because of the influx of mainland Chinese, there are like 20-30 50 storey towers there. You can see that when you are in intramuros looking at binondo.
