One of the great last episodes of this show, it being in Season 5, and it also being near the end of season. Wish Don would have stuck around a little longer, the show wouldn't be the same after he left.
He wanted to stick around but Andy told him in the beginning that he only wanted to do the show for 5 seasons and then end it. So Don only signed a 5 year contract. Andy decided to keep the show going but it was too late for Don by then in his contract. He couldn’t get out of it.
The last three seasons, which only featured Barney Fife a couple of times when he briefly visited Mayberry or was visited by Andy, were so-so ... and some of it was dreadful stuff, to be frank. Not the same as the first five seasons, of course, but still watchable overall. And there are a few fun episodes, at least for my money, including _Dinner at Eight_ in which Andy suffers through at least three big spaghetti dinners in one evening because of Goober's stupidity. They obviously brought in the character of Warren to become "the new Deputy Fife" character in some ways, but I guess no one liked him at all; he was gone even before the next season started. To be dropped after only eleven episodes, man, that is fast. The show brought in a friend for Opie, Arnold, who seemed like he just moved to the South from The Bronx (with that accent) but he didn't add anything good to the series either. The last three seasons clearly struggled to remain quality sitcom fare but could not do it. This era of TAGS was not 100% dreck, but it contains some of the weirdest and worst episodes of the entire run (Goober growing a beard and thinks he is smart because of it, Opie and Arnold find a baby and then _hide it_ from everyone, and so on and so on). It almost felt like the best writers left just when Don Knotts did.
IMHO one of the best-written episodes, especially in the way it makes such good use of supporting cast members: Helen - it's consistent with her character that she would be initially outraged thinking that Andy was being chauvinistic toward her and stubbornly refuse his attempts to set the record straight - but afterward be understanding and even entertained by his recounting of the story; Floyd and Goober - it's hilarious and totally believable that they would take seriously Barney and his fascination with the paranormal: Opie - he shows his character's growing maturity in how he doesn't quite buy in to Barney's excitement in the Count in spite of his wishes coming true. The episode is also very efficient the way it tells a fairly intricate tale and wraps everything up neatly with a great comic twist finish all within 30 minutes.
He steals certain scenes. The one where Otis sues the county is a prime example, when Floyd is all obsessed over the lawyer's suit and marvels at how great it is. Such a funny guy.
This scene is actually satanic, folks, and no, Andy Griffith was not a great guy or leader. Most were terrified to work with him due to his temper and ego problems. He was a jerk and an egomaniac --- and he acted like "Matlock" was as good as "Perry Mason". Uhhhh, no, it wasn't. Helen Crump was a feminazi liberal and a piece of trash, and she promoted all kinds of corruption, ie this episode.
I like the idea of them trying to summon a spirit. A deputy sheriff and two friends holed up kid-like in the dark in the back of the courthouse. It reinforced the idea of Mayberry as crime-free and sleepy.
The writers for this episode were absolute geniuses. The total depth of the story along with the twist at the end so Opie's last wish also came true. It's definitely one of the best episodes in the series.
This is one of my favorite episodes, and one reason is Barney being right and Andy being wrong. Episodes like Haunted House show Barney believing in something completely crazy, and Andy puts him right back down to reality by proving him wrong. Here though, it’s the exact opposite.
The goal of this episode was to promote something that shouldn't be promoted, and it's no surprise that that feminazi, liberal propagandist Helen Crump is in the episode.
Ordered from county headquarters (not forty feet from where they are currently sitting) six months ago and it shows up just then? Guess they’re whispering so loudly, they heard it in headquarters 🤨.
...maybe because the "church" is working for the devil in disguise. That happens a lot nowadays, as in with these Calvinistic churches that promote TULIP theology, reformed theology, et cetera.
Yes. I wonder what that musical instrument is. It sounds like a xylophone, but it's not. A vibraphone is the same in a way but, much more elaborate. It has pipes like an organ, the plates, can go up, Leslie speakers. But this instrument may be a marimba, but, I'm not sure.
Just before the end of this clip while Barney stands there shaking as he holds the fingerprint set, Barney clearly says Count.....Ishvan....Teleke. 4:18
Haha, I was going to chime in about "Countess" myself. I can see how the mistake could be made, it could sound like Countess. Eventually I learned that István Teleki was real, born in 1602 in Szék which is a Hungarian enclave nearby Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca) in Transylvania. Hang on-- a Count, in Transylvania ... interesting. ;-)

The Music & Sound Effects are Just Awesome ! (Light years ahead of what we have now in 2024 ) ! 😮
Count Isvan Taleki. One of the greatest episodes!
That explains why they are saying "he." It always seemed as though the name was "Countess." Thanks for clearing this up.
My favorite episode as well.
Awesome episode, These three are fabulous Floyd Goober and Barney 😂😂😂
The three most gullible, easily awed people in Mayberry.

@@nickrandles1102 Good grief. That, made no sense.
Season 6,7and 8 weren't that bad. Don Knott's did many of the episodes. They developed some of the other characters . They did ok .

Howard McNear (Floyd) is hilarious in this. I love this scene. 🤣
He’s soooo good!
How about the episode where Floyd and Barney are held hostage by the three escaped women convicts. LOL Sally dances with Al.
He steals certain scenes. The one where Otis sues the county is a prime example, when Floyd is all obsessed over the lawyer's suit and marvels at how great it is. Such a funny guy.
I love how Andy Griffith incorporated him in so much even after his stroke when he couldn’t stand. Shows you what a great leader Andy Griffith was.

My favorite all-time scene with Barney. Thanks for posting.

"Count Istvan Teleky, EXISTS!"
Correct name! Thanks👌🏻
Hmm maybe really does.

Istvan is a common Hungarian man's first name. Most gypsys were Hungarian .
@@gispel7058 Good info 🙂 Thank you!
I actually like the ending better where Barney gives Andy a “I told you so” look before retrieving the stuff from the wastebasket..
I ain't gonna be in no back room when ghost pops out that lamp. Goober said that.
My all time favorite show
My favorite episode !!!!

Count Istvan Teleki EXISTS!!
Comedic genius!
Not sure why a church is posting this but thanks. One of my favorites. Comic genius right down to the spooky music!

Just reading on MeTV website that Count Istvan Teleky really did exist.
Well of course he did! How else did Barney get the fingerprint kit? ☺
Jim Carrey owes a lot to Mr Knotts.
Fife Rules!!💯
I 💯 I agree.

So does Michael Keaton
Super film.
I love the one about the haunted house lol
Yes this one of my favorites.
What good acting!
Greatest Show ever
Just great
I don’t think they knew that they were coming to be watched all these years later
Spooky thing for the Andy Griffith Show.
COUNT ISTVAN TELEKE. You see Ishtvan is a Hungarian mans first name. As common as John is here.
I used to know a man who named his son Istvan.
All 3 looking scared! I'd be with Andy shaking my head saying "nonsense".
" Sure lively tonight!"
"Countess Von Teleki" 😂😅
By golly Shazam 🤣
Why can't people put just 2.5 to 6.00 minutes of an episode?
Creepy😮
Just before the end of this clip while Barney stands there shaking as he holds the fingerprint set, Barney clearly says Count.....Ishvan....Teleke. 4:18
It’s actually spelled:
Count Isvan Teleki, which was in actuality a real person.
To the best of your knowledge...was Dr . Merle Osmond whose name was also mentioned in "this" episode , was he a real person too ?
"Istvan"...but who's counting 🤣
Wowit hard to belive thatabout the haunted house and barney lt is one of my favorate and the black and write are more funny then color ones
It's Count Ist Van Teleky! He isn't a woman. Fix that title!
The Count can decide their gender. Why don' t you chill?
Why not both?
That's Count Isvan Teleki It's actually a man (I may have spelled the name wrong, but you get my point, I hope).
No problem. It took me awhile to figure it out years ago.

I wish...I wish...I wish I was a fish. Opps...sorry...wrong episode.
Explain the fingerprint kit appearing! There just may be something to this story. But seriously, wouldn't it be cool if she did exist?
Go watch the episode
👍👍🤪
Floyd goober and Barney the three stooges so funny
Oh yes oh oh yes !
Goober is askeeert. 😉
Count not countess. And the rest of the name is wrong too. Oh well. Count isvon teleki
It's "ISTVAN TELEKY" I should know, it's my name.
Andy's girlfriend Helen was a real dish.

A perfect depiction of religion. Start with a campfire, move on to a genie lamp. Hysterical truth!
It is Count S. Von Teleki
It's Ishtvan Teleke. Ishtvan is a common Hungarian first name....like .Joe or Sam, or John for instance
Floyd doesn't have lenses in his glasses.

The rare Satanic Andy Griffith episode, but then, it is Hollyweird.
Can't compare to other satanic things, since then that is unconsciousble.
