imo it has more energy in the highs, less veiled than the 6x0 line. and much better and more intense bass. otherwise they are incredibly natural to my ears. but your experience may vary cos comparing iems to overears is very dependent on your individual ear anatomy.
Idk if you mentioned this, but it's cool that they provide a custom-fit option that isn't much more expensive for this set. I wish there were more of those out there, seems like companies are going away from custom-fits. Hard to find reviews on the customs to see if they are as great as these (customs tend to be a little better).
Can definitely see from your taste over the years how the Mirai would be a better over the Mega5-probably because I've also leaned over with similar preferences. Great review Josh!
whats a budget iem you recommend for great stock tips, cable, and shape, good enough durability, looks cool, and a very versatile sound, meaning not hard to listen to on most music.
The tweaks you're describing here are found largely in the Oracle mk3:) It graphs like this iem with a bigger soundstage, excellent sub and mid bass, full vocals, super sweet treble from the electrostats and a great soundstage.
@@johnhospod5202 have you heard both? Is it worth getting the Mega5est Or is the Oracle Mk3 better? Cause Mega5est probably has the most natural tuning.
that wobble in the bass of the mirai is a rocker mode from the iem vibrating in the fixtures ear. the real level can kinda be estimated as halfway between the peak and the dip, which might explain why it sounds cleaner cos it has less energy in the midbass than the mega5est.
and yeah. while i do find the mega5est to be the most natural sounding audio device i own, on other iems i tend to prefer more upper treble. i have a pair of ie900s i generally eq to sound like the mega5est with a little less bass and more treble energy. but i really appreciate how balanced the mega5est is without eq.
1:26 "fit" is the word to use here. Fitment is part of a machine or furnishing. It's a word, but doesnt apply here. For some reason it does seem to be getting more popular, perhaps becuase it sounds more interesting. Other ones to watch out for: battery backup is not the same as battery life. Height is correct, heighth is not.
I'm not going to sit here and pretend that this is not one of the smoothest sounding IEMs out there, but it is indeed overhyped for the price. There are a ton of options out there now that are cheaper with similar/better driver configuration and graphs. The continuing saturation of chinese IEMs flooding the market for cheap will only exacerbate this fact. Keep your eyes and ears open.
I've tried megafest for myself to see if it was worth the hype, and imo it was incredibly sibilant. cymbal strikes and consonants were painful to sit through. build, comfort, and accessories is great tho. never tried the mirai because no stores ever have them for demo 😭
I often wonder what audio credentials these Chinese companies have. I have had the same exact experience as you with the Kato, Credenza , and Crinacle red. If I didn’t EQ those they would make me wince. I settled with the Alba , but I still need EQ. I might try Sennheiser as they have decades of experience and resources for audio.
Joshua you are the reason I got into headphones and then IEMs but you have totally sold out! You put a $500 vs a $1150 and then sales pitch the Dunu because that junk is not selling and they are losing money. What a crock of crap. I no you don’t care but I’m so done with you!
My headphones of 15 years stopped working. I was excited to look into new headphones/IEMs. I am so disgusted with this product family. There are thousands of choices and it is overwhelming. I am exhausted with it all after 2 weeks of researching. I have ONLY worn Apple earbuds so I have nothing to compare. Plus, I can't really find places to test IEMs.
Legit question. In what way do these Chinese IEM manufacturers have expertise in acoustics? Headphones and IEMs are a huge market and it seems they just have jumped on the bandwagon, but I don’t get what background they have. Sennheiser , etymotic, Shure and some others have decades of research and the resources for acoustics and audio. How long have companies like Moondrop as an example been involved in acoustics or audio? Not knocking them for being Chinese, I just question all these companies which just all of a sudden came out of nowhere a few years ago making a new IEM every 3 months. 🤷♂️ Dunno. Maybe they have some legit R&D. But it seems a bit fishy to me. Especially after trying quite a few Chinese IEMs.
# Thinking # Searching # Responding #### Overview of the MEGA5-EST (MEGAFEST) The **MEGA5-EST**, also known as **MEGAFEST**, is a highly regarded in-ear monitor (IEM) that has gained attention for its impressive sound quality and innovative design. This IEM features a **tribrid driver configuration**, which includes one dynamic driver, two balanced armatures, and two electrostatic tweeters. This combination allows for a wide frequency response and detailed sound reproduction, making it a favorite among audiophiles. #### Key Features 1. **Driver Configuration**: The MEGA5-EST utilizes a **1DD + 2BA + 2EST** setup, which contributes to its ability to deliver a smooth and coherent sound from bass to treble. The dynamic driver handles the lower frequencies, while the balanced armatures and electrostatic tweeters enhance clarity and detail in the mids and highs. 2. **Frequency Response**: This IEM boasts an impressive frequency range of **10Hz to 50kHz**, allowing it to reproduce both deep bass and high-frequency details effectively. The inclusion of electrostatic tweeters extends the high frequencies up to **80kHz**, providing exceptional clarity. 3. **Tuning**: The MEGA5-EST is tuned to the **Harman IEM target curve**, which is designed to provide a balanced and natural sound signature. However, some users have noted that while it is engaging and fun, it may sacrifice some resolution and soundstage compared to other competitive models. #### User Impressions Many users have praised the MEGA5-EST for its engaging sound and overall performance. It has been described as "head boppingly fun," making it suitable for various music genres. However, potential buyers are advised to consider their personal preferences, as some may find other models like the Mangird Tea Pro to be more competitive at lower price points. #### Conclusion The MEGA5-EST (MEGAFEST) stands out as one of the best measuring IEMs available, thanks to its innovative driver configuration and thoughtful tuning. Its ability to deliver a fun and engaging listening experience makes it a popular choice among audiophiles looking for high-quality sound in a compact form.
Joshua’s review is so insightful and provides a lot of thought provoking points. Thank you!
I find this a very musical IEM and great for long listening sessions.
You have Moondrop Dark Saber review?
Do you think the Mega5est sounds natural like the HD600? The reason Mega5est is hyped cause it's very natural.

To a certain degree this depends on your anatomy, but for the average person I would say yes it sounds very natural in the vocal frequencies.
currently listening with the mega5est and utws5 adapters. an amazing combo for the best tws
Bluetooth is not healthy Most tws are way higher than the limits of radiation
The way you described that treble preference reminds me why you love Fir M5 so much lol
Interesting. I found the bass speed and quality to be lacking on both the mega5est and the Mirai

They just released a bass version of this IEM that might fit your bass preference.
Completely off topic. Josh, where'd you get that hoodie?
How does this compare to the audio 64 u12t? thx
i did in fact decide to get the mega5est, im so stoked.
Joshua is late af, as always 😂
You make it sound like IEM reviews are like CPU and GPU reviews.

You can also get a ciem version and/or customize the universal.
I'm not sure, but it seems like your version of the Mega5EST is the OG (darker color), the latest 7th Edition should be more greyish 🤔
we need dusk vs mega5-est vs mirai
crazy how it is the exact opposite for me. i would prefer if the treble after 7k was toned down and for me the bass is perfect
i ordered some of these custom a while ago. Waiting forever for them to come in from china
You got a Twt Joshua?

Shape us impossible to say, but the hexa is probably still the best universal, but you might find it boring.

That low end feature in the Mirai measurement is a rig artifact and isn't actually there.

try it with the Final Type E For TWS ear tips. super comfortable and cleans up the bass response
Agree about the faceplate. Especially the script like font. Maybe they have custom options.

The MegaFest? $550 USD. The Mirai I believe is around $1000.
