The irony of it being free when functional, but 8 euros now it's a ruin is delicious.

The beauty it once was is unfortunately all gone now. From such magnificence to this. All that work put into this masterpiece of a building and this is what's left. Scrap.😫😫😫😫

I would have loved to have watched this building as it was being built. .... The designers must have been really impressed w/ themselves.

A building this precious was destroyed w/ no thought of preservation for the future. How sad is that ???

In the High MiddleAge the roman marbles were used to build the christian churches and other buildings. Life goes on in different times.
I like the roman- barbarian kingdoms and a new culture born from the ashes of the roman empire.

For having been exposed to the elements for hundreds upon hundreds of years, the mosaics are in much better condition than I'd have expected.

Thank you so much. I'm planning a trip to Rome in May and I had the misconception that the Baths of Caracalla were much farther away and would need to be part of a different day. I followed this video on G Earth and it is surprisingly close. Even accounting for winding along the path at the Palatine, the Circus Maximus and to cross the streets, it's only 0.82 miles from the Colosseum.
P.S. a must do for me is a walk around the track inside the Circus. If anyone sees an idiot imagining he's driving a chariot, yep that would be me.

@@cjs433 Thanks. I also want to recreate the walk of Julius Caesar from his home (I think he lived in the Domus Vestalium in the middle of the Forum) to the Theater of Pompey where he was assassinated. Its now the Largo di Torre Argentina and only 0.8 miles along the streets.

Yes the Baths of Caracalla and Circus maximus are walking distance from the Colosseum.
