4:56 - just as he said "looks good, nothing is leaking" and proceeded to connect the hose, a drop came out! Priceless!

I didnt notice that....I had to go back and look. Thats kinda funny, but I feel bad for this dude. My mom has a better set of tools in her old sewing box.....and she doesnt know what a phillips screwdriver is. Vise grips for a wrench, small straight blade for a phillips (handle taped on), hand crank drill from like 1906.....wow.

It's important for those using older British bikes to know that the fuel flows the opposite way. This is because they use petrol not gas.

Making the shim is pure genius! Didn't like buying a rebuild kit and having it still leak, as it did for my Concours. Also the o-ring sealer. I had not heard of that. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make and post this video and share your knowledge! Thanks again, David

Did you have any issues with that plastic shim breaking or dissolving because of constant exposure to gas? It seems like a good idea, but while watching the video I was thinking that the plastic likely wouldn't last too long in gas.

My uncle told me, the best way to fix fuel system leaks was to mix epoxy 87% and fuel 13% in your tank and run it through the entire system until the engine sputters, then kill the engine and let it completely cool for 24 hours. Have you ever used this method Mr. Ichi ?

It's important to say what kind of plastic to use as a shim. Plastic from a milk jug melts in gas. I'm not sure what plastics do not but I know they exist. To be safe I used gasket material. Otherwise great video and very helpful.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience, but it frustrates me when I see people using the wrong tool for the job. Vice clamps instead of a spanner? Ancient little flat head screwdriver instead of a cross head? Wouldn't let you near my bike.

Does anyone know where I can get a gasket that goes between the black plates of that diaphragm? I’m taking about the whitish looking square gasket. All these rebuild kits only come with the diaphragm, not the gasket, and the gasket I have is currently the issue because it’s worn out and has a hole where fuels clearly squirting out of!

what the hell was that o-ring sealer stuff? is it like a grease? and any excess has to go right into the carbs with the gas as soon as the diaphram opens so why use so much instead of just enough to coat the o-ring? mine has corrosion on the o-ring seat and isn't sealing so I need a permanent fix that doesn't wash off like grease

      it's sealer. not grease

well if its sealer then how isn't it gluing everything together? all the sealers I know of get firm and stick to something when they dry. if you fill the cavity as you did, it wouldn't (or shouldn't) still allow the diaphragm to work after it hardens up
