The entertainment value of GSL is so insanely high, I almost feel ashamed I'm not paying anything to watch it. Gonna get me a LG Ultragear screen in the future to show my support ^^
The quality and variety of the games is higher than ever, even when SC2 was still at the forefront of esports, I would sometimes watch live, but most of the time I was only watching the games that were rated "Very Highly Recommended" on Teamliquid. From 2013 onward, I was only watching those, then stopped following SC2 for some years. But from 2018 I started tuning into GSL again and was like, whoa, it's worth just watching every match because so many of them are interesting or action packed. The game is so less redundant now and interesting and significant things actually happen at the start, I love it. If both players want to skip to lategame, they can do that instantly whereas back then we had to wait 10 mins til they got their 3 base deathballs ready before doing anything. If one player wants to play early game and does some aggressive opener or proxy, we sometimes get games where the early game lasts 10 mins (1-2 bases and small amounts of units). If both players want to play early game and both do risky builds, it can end up being crazy too even if it can end very quickly. There are so many more viable unit compositions, opportunities to harass, tools, tactics, and strategies available, coming up with a solution to something has become a lot more complicated, there are always many ways to approach a situation. Hard counters like Immortal vs Mech have been made much less extreme, so it is more about how you control units and what tactics to use now. A good example is that for mech, Thors "counter" Mutas but are immobile and can be abused without great positioning, so you can also consider Cyclones, Liberators, WMs, Vikings, and BCs instead. There is no one 100% best answer. This leads to different preferences and styles which is great for the game! There are also no longer any "go CC first and defend everything as long as you don't face a super fast cheese" builds. The game starts right away now and anything can happen, no one is safe. I remember laddering in master and just doing the same thing every MU until ~10 minutes in, it was soo boring. Same safe builds, same safe units, etc. Each race also has a lot more variety of things that they can do. For example Protoss no longer restricted to being the "sit back then attack" race (having to decide between a Blink all-in, Immortal Sentry all-in, or wait to get a 3 base deathball, etc.). Protoss can now harass and be more active now if they want. WPs are now very versatile for both harass and pushes, Adepts give much more opportunities for timing attacks or harass early on, and all the new combinations of Protoss units allows a lot of creativity and flexibility in possible timings in which to attack. But if you also want to be defensive like Stats, you can do that too, and then there's also the decision between whether to go for a strong deathball-y army, or a more mobile stargate army, or a more map control based force using HTs spread around the map like Parting does in PvT. Units with zoning abilities like Ravager or Disruptor also help prolong fights or encourage armies to split up and poke more before full-on engaging, so that fights aren't over as fast as they were in WoL/HotS. And them making lower tier units more of a core for Zerg and Protoss has also been great to discourage deathball styles and give more freedom in how to play. Ended up ranting a bit but man I love the game so much now, there are still a few flaws/balance issues to iron out, but I could never have imagined that the game could have improved THIS much, and I think that is part of why the scene and playerbase seem to be rebounding a little.
AfreecaTV you guys are amazing, thank you so much for doing GSL, and bringing Tasteless and Artosis to us, I have been watching for 4 years and love every minute of it.

GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT! Tastosis, dope tunes, a balanced game!
now those broodlords were the game-throwing move there by Soo. He literally deleted all his anti-BC anti air and then not have the money/base to remake them. Also he never had that many infestors to support those broodlord, the infestors were not even there when the push began and lol when the observer showed the unit tab there were like 4 of them.
yeah, its crazy to fly broodlord in without any air support. And he doesnt even need to make those Broodlords, just more banneling and some more viper would work well with the Ro/Ra army as well
Are burrowed infestors using neural really that hard to use? The unburrowed infestors died really quickly. The chain fungal made for a lot of losses on soO's side when fighting only BCs. Wouldn't burrowed neural parasite be better vs the BC hit squad? Wouldn't neural into tactical jump to the other side of the map in an army engaement be better? The BCs will be gone and only ground army is left.
@@JaharNarishma that's a brilliant idea indeed. But then he already lost all the broodlords anw so those leftover ling ravagers would win against the ground army, with or without the BCs there. I feel like what Soo could have done instead of making those broodlords were to continue what he's been doing and make some more infestors. If the infestors land the fungals then cyclones then he'd be trading cracklings for cyclones and, as you said, the neuro is just great vs the BCs if the corruptors were still there. But then again Soo never knew about the starports.
“Well Broodlord-Infestor is not what it once was, and then was again... and then also still was, but people think it wasn’t - but it was, still... and then it still was, and... uh... but then there were swarm hosts, so it wasn’t but it could’ve been, and then it still was, but now it *really* isn’t.” ...Well said Artosis.
What did Zest say to SpeCial at the end of game 3? It looked like it wasn't very nice. SpeCial visually looks like he takes a blow. Hopefully it was nothing.
I know this isn't anything to do with the awesome starcraft action we get: But does anyone know the name of the song at the start of the video? When it starts counting down to the event?
Spoilers below. I think Soo made so many blunders in his play. Having all his Mutas on one control group so he couldn't utilize their mobility (twice he did that); morphing all of his corrupters into Broodlords so he had no anti-air (twice he did that). He had some really good concepts but he bungled it.
The amount of mutas he lost to mines as he didn't add an overseer was unreal, definitely a weakness in his play ! He lost about 30 mutas to thors and libs in one fight too, he never regained momentum.
Broodlord infestor is not what it once was and then was again and then also still was but people think it wasn't but it was still and then it still was but then there was swarmhosts so it wasn't but it could've been and then it still was but now it really isn't.
anybody know the song at 1:43:40? The music this season generally seems really fucking good, we need a playlist! edit: I would like to think its called factory terran

I feel like what Soo could have done instead of making those broodlords were to continue what he's been doing and make some more infestors. If the infestors land the fungals then cyclones then he'd be trading cracklings for cyclones and, as you said, the neuro is just great vs the BCs if the corruptors were still there. But then again Soo never knew about the starports.
to Tastoises and all the crew, you are all amazing!
Loved the games, but goddamn, that casting was pure GOLD.
wow Special has really improved over the years
The jokes at the Zest vs Special game. Thanks Artosis, it was awesome entertainment. "shot him...no no no boss watch this..." 😂
special have the best weird timing and tech hiding!!
“Well Broodlord-Infestor is not what it once was, and then was again... and then also still was, but people think it wasn’t - but it was, still... and then it still was, and... uh... but then there were swarm hosts, so it wasn’t but it could’ve been, and then it still was, but now it *really* isn’t.”
...Well said Artosis.
In text form, you can actually follow that along and keep sense of it.
Man i really want that Golden Wall OST.
What did Zest say to SpeCial at the end of game 3? It looked like it wasn't very nice. SpeCial visually looks like he takes a blow. Hopefully it was nothing.
chobo
"u fat, probably no fuck girl xD"
Special vs Soo.. omg :D What a flawless second game.
Very nice songs
Battlecruisers are the oracles for the ones that can't micro. Change my mind.
... Oracles aren't some super high intensity micro unit or anything. Funny you didn't compare oracles to banshees.
SoO didnt even play bad, Special just played amazing. GGs
1:53:48 Starcraft casting at its finest. Who brought the laughing gas?? 😂
I know this isn't anything to do with the awesome starcraft action we get: But does anyone know the name of the song at the start of the video? When it starts counting down to the event?
missed opportunity to say that in game 1 soo beat zoun "rezoundingly"
Spoilers below.
I think Soo made so many blunders in his play. Having all his Mutas on one control group so he couldn't utilize their mobility (twice he did that); morphing all of his corrupters into Broodlords so he had no anti-air (twice he did that). He had some really good concepts but he bungled it.
The amount of mutas he lost to mines as he didn't add an overseer was unreal, definitely a weakness in his play ! He lost about 30 mutas to thors and libs in one fight too, he never regained momentum.
SpeCial champion 2020?
33:15 You can block a shade with a shade? How did I never know this??
Hurray GSL in the year 2020 !
I'm suprised Tastosis didn't make mention of how unlucky Zoun was in the 2nd game against Zest, missing that proxy Robo by inches.
The Shield Battery makes SC2 closer to BW than the Mothership Core, therefore is better.
1:46:15 Artosis explains how my brother learned how to be fair and how I learned how to measure/evaluate properly. Pretty great commentary.
thank you for that stream
Tasteless trying not to laugh at "finger on every hole" lol
Where is the music at 2:56:38 from? It's so familiar, but I am unable to locate it.
Special last word during his interview lmfao, 고마워
Best casters ever!
1:45:00 OH MAN it would be cool if Tastosis commentated Splatoon tournaments!
GSL best esport to watch.
Broodlord infestor is not what it once was and then was again and then also still was but people think it wasn't but it was still and then it still was but then there was swarmhosts so it wasn't but it could've been and then it still was but now it really isn't.
Wow, well done Special.
