@@tvk380mtg9 Hmm.... There's a lot to unpack with that phrase, I'll try to be brief with an analogy. Imagine there's an engineer and their job is to set up a properly working central heating system. It's very noble to be okay with losing subscribers and not monetizing from the videos, but that also means TH-cam won't advertise your videos or suggest them nearly as much which unfortunately means fewer viewers. It's a difficult line to balance on. I wonder if monetizing and getting TH-cam to suggest your videos could be a way to get more viewers and therefore more people to see what you're sharing and educate. Hard to say what's more important: integrity or reality. Integrity that you don't want to make money off ads and companies that are bad for the earth. Reality that without the monetization, fewer people will hear what you have to say
I don't think that ads actually change how much the videos get promoted. I have 10million views on my channel, and nearly all of it has been unmonetized. TH-cam does not, however, promote climate content particularly well
@@ScopeofScience oh, okay that's interesting. I didn't know. Not many "big social media companies" are good at promoting climate change eh? Thank you for taking the time to reply! Recently, I've decided to start engaging more with your content to give you the recognition you deserve and in hopes of boosting the algo. Hopefully, my tiny interactions can make a tiny difference.
Did you steal the land, or the money? If not, why do you feel guilty? Incidentally profiting from whatever bad system you are in is different from activly perpetuating it. Which would be something to feel guilt over.
Uuum, Not really sure what to type. While if you can't bypass the profit of the system, not sure what could be done? Especially if the system rely on that. But if not and you wanne do something about It, FOLLOW the money! And you will find the Solution to your goal.
I think what this video is trying to say is that it is important to recognize our privileges. (For example, settlers living in Canada have a lot of advantages over indigenous folks.) But, even Kurtis says in the video that guilt isn't the best way to handle this privilege . Instead of feeling guilt, we should each take action to use our privileges, powers, and advantages to make the world better for everyone.
Actually, all the land we a on is mostly stolen. Be it from Natives, be it from enclosure acts. We the only right we have to help it others and to let others help ourselves, all the rest is a story we tell ourselves to forget the past and the dust of corpses under our feet.
I don't think one should feel guilt over something they were born into. But you should be aware of your position compared to the rest of the world and the responsibility that comes with it.
Siro Stehrenberger The main issues with nuclear are cost and time. Nuclear power plants are very expensive to construct and often take around a decade before they become operational, so in a climate crisis where time is of the essence, it’s a lot easier (and cheaper) to rely on other options including solar and wind. Solar especially is becoming a lot cheaper and requires a lot less time to set up.
@@aerbonds2166 The cost and time thing is what got us in this mess in the first place, so it's quite short-sighted to dismiss nuclear based on these criteria. And there's simply no way to sustain daily power load with solar and wind alone.
Hebl von Heblowitz Don’t get me wrong, I like nuclear, and I think it will play an important role in decarbonizing electricity, but my comment on time is absolutely a valid concern. It can take decades for a nuclear power plant to get from proposal to operational, and during those decades we should be pursuing all other renewable options as well.
In a way it kind of is though; in plenty of places around the world you can't speak your mind about things freely without being arrested and not living under such circumstance could most certainly be seen as a privilege.
Thank you for sharing your emotions! The guilt part is real and its very personal, but the problems are systemic. Nevertheless I still could not decide if I ever will fly again or do anything else that costs a big carbon budget, that is above a sustainable level. But with all this systemic carbon footprint weight as north european I never will only be near that sustainable level of 2-3 tonnes per year and person. I feel sick seeing every day our highly industrialized economy, that only produces a shitload of products and offers services, that most really don't need. The incentives our society gives (like cheap gasoline, vacation offers oversea by plane and boat with subsidized fossil fuels and subsidized industries, like the warfts building those big ships). And at least to me it seems like that not enough people are aware of the math, that our carbon budget is running out fast and even faster with net growth. Just want to thank you for your efforts, by showing that one can do effective things, even just one person! I really hope this plays out! Go for it!
@@difflocktwo this is not what I said and you know it. Obviously it won't work without industrialization. But it won't work with droughts, famin, floods, pandemics, riots and other nasty stuff accelerated by the climate crisis too. - We need to stall growth. - We need to solve the issue by its root cause (emissions). - Quick fixes won't lead us nowhere. - Geoengineering is a very bad idea. - Planting trees and growing algees alone cannot solve the issue. - Carbon capture and storage is far away. But deeply needed. - Biggest problems are cement, steel, quicklime, glas industries. - Cars don't belong into city centers, bikes and pedestrians do. - Flying and shipping, that we can't afford just for fun. - Going 100% non fossil fuels, like electric or green gas is a must. - Fossil fuels have to go (Coal, Gas, Petroleum and Peat). - Burning food for energy is a bad idea. - Don't pollute the environment we depent on (toxines, plastics). - Don't take more than is naturally renewing or can actually be engieered (water, wood, food). - Feeding the population with meet, like we do, is inefficent and morally questionable.

Truly love your work. I've been watching your videos silently for a while and your video on tracking everything you did was a game changer for me. Recently, I've decided to start engaging more with your content to give you the recognition you deserve and in hopes of boosting the algo. Hopefully, my tiny interactions can make a tiny difference.
I wonder how you don't fall when you are not sitting at the exact middle of the camp. The entire camp hang only on a single rope.
I'm in a harness, and I'm always connected to that rope. Safety first!
Commenting for the algorithm but I really hope to learn more from you!
Ur a real good man
Did you steal the land, or the money?
If not, why do you feel guilty?
Incidentally profiting from whatever bad system you are in is different from activly perpetuating it. Which would be something to feel guilt over.
Doing nothing IS perpetuating it.
Uuum,
Not really sure what to type.
Kurtis, what do you think of nuclear power?
GO KURTIS!!!!
damn, i can’t believe you lost subs for doing this :(
good luck Kurtis and thank you
You should get on Tiktok, they'd love you there!
good videos.
It's not a privilege to not get arrested... Anyone else agree?
I think you'll have an easier time finding people who disagree since there's fewer of them.
In a way it kind of is though; in plenty of places around the world you can't speak your mind about things freely without being arrested and not living under such circumstance could most certainly be seen as a privilege.
Be able to think this way is a privilege. That mean you live in a region that the legislative and judiciary system is functioning properly.
@@nicoper Solid Point

lova ya dude
Thanks for the tutorial
I understand you dont want to monetize this videos, but why not? The money made from this videos could be donated
Go for it!
What's the alternative? Back to pre civilization?
@@difflocktwo advance to non fossil fuel industry maybe?
@@sebastianwiesendahl5348 Without industrialization?
@@sebastianwiesendahl5348 I dunno about you but our local population has been declining for a while and soon our government is gonna be broke. We stalled a long time ago.
Can you start making money with this channel and send it to me? I could use it.
I'm sorry, but ads suck. They encourage people to buy stuff they don't need. It's destroying the planet.
@@ScopeofScience Do you think that the impact that advertisements would have on your channel, and their effect on your audience, would outweigh the good you could do with the money you would receive?
Potentially an interesting analysis there.
And forgive my original comment, I was being facetious... mostly.
