Regarding 0:57. Ende Gelände might also be an option if you live in Germany. They mainly focus on coal power plants and open mine coal pits. Europes biggest CO2 Source is RWE's Coal Power Plants in Rhineland near Cologne. Every year Ende Gelände occupies coal infrastructure with thousands of people. The next action will be around 27. September. Some weeks before the action there are meetups in a lot of cities for people who want to participate so nobody has to go alone.
Great recommendations on seeking out local climate organizations. There are likely tons of other, smaller, more localized organizations in every area that most people could never find out about without searching in the ways you mentioned!
Thanks! It is gonna be hard to keep up every day though. It's hard enough to put out a daily video, but everything is slower when you need to keep everything tied down safely and tether for Internet
Kurtis keep going brother. I hope this gets recommended to more people, and gets shared a lot. I am doing my best by sharing it with my friends and sharing it on social media, (your video has got a lot of traction in r/climate ) :). Wish you the best.
Kurtis, I have some advice for you. Please do not let negative comments get to you. I've seen a lot of your videos to have some of these despite the fact that your work objectively does good for the world. Negativity is louder than positivity. Please keep that in mind! I wish you the best with your future efforts and I'll be with you throughout your journey!
This is an amazing series on youtube, and I think it is a great way of spreading awareness about climate change. My town, Medford NewJersey has not gotten snow in 4 years, and it get about 7 degrees (average) hotter every year. The glasses look cool by the way.
Amazing work, Kurtis! I can't imagine what sort of restless leg syndrome you'll be feeling after so long basically laying down. Good luck and I hope you all can stop the pipeline for at least the next year like you talked about.
Thank you thank you! to you and your team of supporters for holding firm on behalf of all peoples and creatures saved by efforts to keep the oil in the ground. I'll be with you every day Kurtis. 🍁Guelph Ontario
you should jot down how are you feeling being this long living suspended mid-air while having certain positions instead of standing on soil, laying on your back in a bed or moving freely as we usually do down here
There has been media attention, but has there been any word from the company building the pipeline? Any workers show up expecting to cut a tree down and realize ya'll are there?
Keep it up, Kurtis. I hope you will get more and more attention as this goes. I would love to hear you talk about emotionally coping with this (and climate change) as well if you have the chance.
Really cool! I'm currently personally in favour of the pipeline (I'm Albertan so its hard not to see the midrange, 10 to 20 yr, economic need in my region, though I do hope for a movement away from fossil fuels towards renewable energy), I'm not sharing that for debate here, just as a way to share my current perspective (I would change my perspective if I saw it was economically viable/and ecologically safer to transport oil to market using a different method than pipeline). What I really want to say is that I really applaud that you are taking steps of non-violent civil disobedience in support of a cause you strongly believe in, I really respect that and that you have said you are willing to be arrested in support of your cause. Keep it up! (I truly do applaud you, this is a climate emergency)
I love this comment! Allows for a dialog and a decent discussion. Kudos my friend. I don't think a lot about the environment, if I'm being honest. I work in tech and I genuinely believe we can make sustainable energy work. We're doing an amazing job in that thanks to companies like Tesla. A long way to go but we are backed by powerful companies.
Keep moving man! Exercise while you're up there. You'll feel better. I recommend 'bodyweight strength training" by Jay Cardiello. Do you think you can do a semi-burpee in that tent? Some others: cobra, superman, scapular pull-down, plank reach-out, etc.
Thank you for doing this your a legend keep it up (same goes for everyone else there) I'm trying to bring down my carbon footprint and protesting for the government to do the same parshely because of you your an inspiration
The most awesome tree occupation camp I know was/is the Hambacher Forst in Germany. Search for it if your interested :) They had even 3stored treehouses there, 20 m up and over 60 treehouses in total, before they were brutally removed by the police in autumn 2018. One man died. The Forest, one of the oldest of Europe, stands on brown coal, which is why RWE, a German energy company and Europes biggest CO2 emitter wants to cut it down further. Right now it even is less than 10% of its original size.
I'm not sure if this is true in his situation, but I doubt the pipeline company has anybody working against him. (I have no idea if that would even be legal in Canada) Besides, the people who would cut down the trees are probably just contractors, and wouldn't have much of a stake in the affair. Certifiably not to the level of starving somebody out.
Sounds like we just got lucky that they didn't cut down this stand of trees when they built the railroad or the pipeline. Are there any equivalent direct action strategies for dealing with urban or industrial environments? I guess handcuffing yourself to something is done sometimes.
In all respects Kurtis, perhaps you can consider staging some kind of viral video clip for the sake of more publicity where you dramatically call out and yell at Justin Trudeau from atop the trees... something amusing, and maybe even a bit extreme and funny, but with a powerful and symbolic message while staying true to the cause. Wishing you the best!
Hi, I love your content. I have been watching them from the early beginning. I don’t want to be the extreme septic but I have a question regarding renewable alternatives. Would love to hear more about the history of Coast Salish resistance. Also, beyond the salmon spawn are there other protections for animals? Like migratory birds?
Ohhhh carefull please with the " renewable energy" thing.... Put an end to the building of the pipeline yes ! the saving of many many Lives is the purpose !
How did you get the tent positioned between those trees and how did you rig up the pulleys for the food and such (I'm the kind of person who would be interested in the structural engineering behind all sorts of stuff, sorry LOL)?
What would you advise those who live beside the rite of ways where the pipeline will be built to do as a form of protest? Are there other ways to protest?

Can people come to the camp to show support and camp out for a while whith you? I am guessing the more people the harder it will be to move you away. And also more attention to the issue.
Please try to answer the most genuine criticism. It would be nice to have the answer from a well prepared person as you are. For example, what is the purpose of the oil that would go through the pipeline? Not all oil is for energy production and there are some other uses that we cannot replace with renewables. What is the alternative there? Thank you very much, I truly believe that you are a hero
What the government should do is subsidize green energy such as wind turbines, and solar farms. If they did that, the up front cost of such things would be far smaller, and more of that stuff would happen. I as an American think that this needs to happen, and it would really encourage people to do stuff like that. But alas... Trump seems to be working his damnedest to go the opposite of that. Best of luck to you! Support from Minnesota!
I'm so curious if you can show us like the floor and how you stand? Like a tour of the set-up.
