    plot twist: ripping up the scrublands reveals a blue core; it was a real

      There are actually some blue core fakes, but that would have been quite the turn of events! :D

    if you use a fiber microscope(60x magnification) you can see the blue layer on the edge without having to tear it.

    Thank you for this! I sold my Tropical Island on ebay and the buyer is now claiming it's a fake. Thanks to this video, and high quality pictures, I can prove it's genuine, assuming the buyer isn't just looking to scam.

    Your video helped a lot. I recently purchased a Scrubland and when I investigated it under my loupe I was very shocked to see that the rosette pattern within the land-colored border had rosettes with dark circles in the middle; when i compared this to my Savannah, Plateau, and Tundra I was not seeing rosettes that had black dots in the center of them. I began to panic. Everything else on the card looked legit. Well it just so happens you were good enough to show the rosette pattern on your graded Scrubland and lo and behold they are the same! It passes all tests in this video so I am now convinced. But how interesting? You would think all lands from Revised would have the same border and therefore the same rosette pattern but this is not the case! Thanks for taking the time out to help us sniff out the fakes.

    Good info. Can't imagine a seller being thrilled with the idea of letting someone perform the "bend test" on their thousand dollar Beta card, however. :)

    When you do the light test you can tell if it's blue core - because the light that shines through will be predominantly blue. I have a bunch of Revised Duals and was unsure because the backs are quite dark compared to Modern cards - but they passed the Line, Mana Symbol, and Light tests using a jewelers loupe, so I feel much better now.

  • @Aeonsmagicks

    When it comes to card feel, what's your opinion?
    I've bought many cards. My brother bought 4 dual lands and I dont have a jewelers loop, but everything seems good about the looks. Light test is good.
    The feel is different.
    I compared my scrubland to the lands he bought and the main difference was his lands felt more rough. Harder to slide between my fingers.
    I ended up concluding they were real after taking out some random revised commons and saw some had a similar feel.
    I can only assume that its the print runs/manufacturers. Do you have duals that have a thicker/rougher feel compared to other duals?

    • @ProfessorPicklezMTG
      @ProfessorPicklezMTG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Without seeing it in person it is very hard for me to make an accurate assessment. I would highly recommend you buy a loupe, they are very cheap!

    • @bluenitriletouch2842
      @bluenitriletouch2842 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure! MTG cards have a pretty solid card stock and are quite sturdy, especially compared to proxies. I already had a revised Savannah that I used as reference for my Underground Sea, so that was super helpful. The proxy I have isn’t flimsy necessarily, but it feels thinner and not as sturdy as the real deal. Not tryna put down the creator of the proxy cause it looks really good tho. Overall, how do your dual lands feel in your hand? Also, if there is an LGS that you go to, it could be worthwhile to maybe have them take a look!

    what about newer borders? is there ever a time when you can see dots or pixels in the border at certain angles? or could that be the rosette under the border?

    • @ProfessorPicklezMTG
      @ProfessorPicklezMTG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may be able to see some bleeding from the rosette pattern but the black line should be completely solid. You can also check the back of the card on all of the black text. That should have no rosette pattern on it at all. Hope this helped!

    I just purchased a Tundra and it passes all sorts of test you just mentioned (color on the back, Black line is clear and has no floral pattern, light test) but the circle around the plains symbol (which is on the white part) is hard to distinguish, though you can see it with a zoomed in camera (I have no loop, sorry). Is this normal with the tundra, since the mana symbols are on the white part rather than the Red part with the plateau?

    • @ProfessorPicklezMTG
      @ProfessorPicklezMTG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congrats on the purchase! What you are describing is due to the mana symbol being printed on the white/beige colored line. If it passes all the other tests and doesn't feel super weird you almost certainly have a real card.
      You should go buy a loupe, they are only around $5! :D

    Real magic cards have 4 red dots along the shading ridge of the green dot on the back of the card. The red dots form an L. You can see it with the loupe. I’ve yet to see a fake card pass that test.

    The solid black border isn’t actually true, I’ve looked at a lot of real cards that the rosette pattern is under it and even incorporated into the border. I wouldn’t go by that specific detail

    • @ProfessorPicklezMTG
      @ProfessorPicklezMTG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      While I agree with you that you shouldn't just look at one detail (which is exactly why I show and recommend using many others when authenticating), old reserved list MTG cards will. have the solid black border. While I have seen some that seem more blended into the rosette pattern, (which is what I assume you are talking about) if it is a rosette black line you definitely have a fake card.

    Why do idiots still promote the, "rip test?" It was created as a joke not a real test.
    You use a loupe and look at the sides, there is always some glue exposed and you check its color.

      You can be for or against the Reserve List but fake cards hurt the Magic community as a whole. It's not a fun experience to buy a card only to find out when you go to sell it that it is worth nothing.

    • @DR-pb8hx
      @DR-pb8hx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Totally agree. Just make sure all your fake cards have proxy written on it or a large X on the back with permanent marker. What the community does not want is people selling them at the price of real cards and scamming players who don't know what to look for.
