Correction: there were 32 different posters in the 1967 Topps Poster checklist. Mainly the best known players from the set. The Clemente is among the best of them.
Jim Coates from an 8 - 9 old perspective in 1978 - 1979. He coached our rival little league team in Kilmarnock Virginia. How I remember him, tall, slender, quite, mean looking, rough like an oysterman, drinker (yep beers in the dugout and on the sideline if I remember correctly). We all knew he had played for the Yankees. When he said anything to his team during a game you looked up from the opposing dugout. I remember him being stern in his commands to his team, mostly to his son, Mickey who was the starting pitcher who threw hard and could throw anything at 11 - 12 years old. I remember Jim giving Mickey hand signals to intentionally walk our big lefty cleanup hitter. This kid hit home runs out of the little league park, over the road behind the field and into the girls softball field behind the road. He could hit. Jim signaled three intentional walk pitches and his son Mickey, not happy threw them outside to the standing catcher. Our clean up hitter stood there and swung lightly at the next two outside pitches for two strikes and laughed. Mickey looked at his father and Jim gave him the go ahead hand signal to throw at him. Place was off the hook packed and people going crazy. Mickey threw hard right down the middle and our clean up swung hard and .... missed. A few batters later as an 9 year old I came to the plate and hit a triple off Mickey to clean the bases. Jim was pissed. It was a really good game but we lost. They went on to win the championship that year. Four years later I pitched for a championship win in that little league with an All Star MVP as well. In those days we were cussing, banging on the dugout fence, screaming at pitchers and batters and of course when Mickey was pitching we would sing the Mickey Mouse song at him and call him Mickey Mouse. All the players from every team were all friends though. We grew up together in the same neighborhoods, went to the same school from kindergarten through high school. Played together in high school and against the same kids in opposing high schools. Mickey was a senior pitcher and our lefty clean up was the other senior pitcher when I went to high school as an 8th grader. I pitched form 9th - 12th grade after they left. Remember Mickey taking up for me and my friend at the ballpark when an older kid was messing with us. Mickey came out of nowhere picked the kid up and slammed him and said don't be scared that's how you do it. Oh, those were the days. Yeah, I remember Jim, RIP 2019.

Fun to watch a vintage pack rip but what we saw is exactly the reason you should never open rare vintage pre 1970. Odds are low of hitting anything even when the packs only contain one series. The odds are even lower that it will actually be high grade if you do manage to pull anything. Collect these relics for the pieces of history that they are, preserve and enjoy them.

Hey Jeff James Brown here and I built homes for a living for 27 years and I'm going to share with you on how to do this in just a few minutes! Take a razor knife and lay the slab down flat on a sturdy table! Hold it tightly and carefully take the razor knife and scarf the slab straight across the top of the slab and it's better to do this about a half inch from the top of the card! Scarf it twice and then take a pair of small wire snippers and from each side snip it on the very edge of both sides at the scarf point! Take a medium size of pliers and hold the card off the end edge of the table with the scarf line even with the edge of the table on both scarf points and just give it a good snug twist towards the end of the slab and do both sides like that and then all you do is grab the slab on the end and twist it like a fold in a letter etc...! The slab will crack right in half and then you can figure it out from there on the rest of the slab so you can remove the card un damaged!!
