    I was one of maybe 30 white kids in a high school outside of Cleveland Ohio in the 70's out of about 735 students. The rest were black, mostly, some Latinos and Filipinos, but mostly black. It's not about skin. It's about power. You learn that from being the powerless.

    That's why we have to stand for every one of us that has no power. And why our power comes from standing together..

    Just a thought, but the Ferguson justice department investigation doesn't just reveal racism but class discrimination. Growing up in a poor south side Chicago neighborhood I can tell you it isn't just black people, it's everyone in a crappy car who gets pulled over and pays the fines. There are numerous economic studies on this. It isn't just neighborhoods that are below the poverty line, but also exists within small college towns like Charleston, IL who use tickets as a source of revenue to fund the town

    Im surprised not many ppl clapped on how it is also a black vs black problem. Just because someone is black doesn't mean one isn't capable of racism and we yet have come to notice that blacks murdering other blacks in huge numbers is still a dilemma that needs attention.

      Are you that ignorant ? Do you even know what racism is?
      A black cop vs. a black citizen is not racism it's power-ism.
      A black criminal vs. a black victim is not racism it's just a shithead committing a crime.
      Racism is a mindset by one race to feel superior to the other race.
      Would you call a white guy who assaults another white guy a racist?
      No you would just call him an asshole.

    I've talked about this for years as I'm sure many others have as well and I'm glad the subject is beginning to get attention.
    There is a real problem with the police force being used as a means to generate revenue by shaking people down.
    I've often compared this to the story of robin hood, where the sheriff and prince collude to shake the populace down for additional funds.
    Too many people are having their hard earned money taken from them for petty offenses. While people who actually do harm, assault murder rape are draining the coffers as we invest more into them than we do our youth through education.

    Speaking as a Naval Veteran....Bill is unfortunately wrong. Veterans are not entitled to medical care simply based upon service. Most veterans have private insurance just as most americans do. Only veterans with service rated disabilities receive medical care. Lastly, the VA has been an embarrassment in the way in which they treat veterans, which is why there has been shifts within the VA organization. Still a Bill Maher fan though...

    Ferguson inspired me to read Matt Taibbi's "The Divide" and Radley Balko's "Rise of the Warrior Cop" in the same month. I am still reeling from the horrifying indictment of systemic oppression across the country and my own blind side. I was delighted to see Matt Taibbi would be on the panel right after release of DOJ's Ferguson report.. So why not let him talk, Bill?!!! He sat silent--someone who really knows something--while two ideologues, one reliably right and one reliable left, went at it.

    GETTING CARE AT THE HOSPITALS IS NOT AN ISSUE AFTER PROVING THAT YOU QUALIFIED FOR IT.
    The doctors have been great and I got the care needed after fighting the qualifications gauntlet.
    THE POLITICIANS AND LAWYERS IS WHAT CAUSE THE PROBLEMS.
    CREATING WAYS TO MAKE MONEY OFF OF THE INJURIES OF THE VETS.

  • @636davidp

    The argument about the quality of VA healthcare did not point out the real problem.
    I haven't gone to the VA hospital for 20 years. When I did, there was a long wait and the facility was run-down. But, I felt the doctor and care I got was very good.
    The problem with the VA is not that it is socialized healthcare. It is that it is underfunded. Congress will force the pentagon to buy tanks it says it doesn't need, but won't properly fund the VA.

    "Reverse racism." I'm sorry, don't you mean racism? How does one act like a reverse racist? Isn't it just the same as, oh I don't know, acting like a racist?
    Racism: The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
    prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
    There is no such thing as reverse racism, there is just racism. Doesn't matter if you're black, white, Asian, latino, or a fucking purple skinned creature who was born on mars, racism functions the exact same way, and is not limited to a single skin color, black people are just as racist as white people, and so on. To continue to act as though one race can be racist, but another cannot, completely undermines and damages any progress we have made, and continue to make.

    • @ramansandhu636

      You may be on to something, but your taking something out of the equation-- "Power relations", clearly the majority of middle-class and elitists in society are Caucasians and males, who have more of a cohesive identity( with one another), hence even if they are discriminated by other races, systematically and within our institutions it is much easier for them to navigate through the system to end up at the upper threshold of "class" society. So no,racism towards Caucasians doesn't systematically disadvantage them, even if it did, all you have is an extremely small fucking sample( that conveniently) you all jump on as an attempt to make racism towards Caucasians seem like it's an equivalency to the systematic discrimination that visible minorities endure.

    There are a couple of guys here spreading lies/misinformation concerning the VA and I would advise anyone to go to a VA hospital/clinic/admin building and receive your VA Card if you haven't and have them assign you a primary doctor. Take some time to drop into the benefits office and ask the counselor what is available for you based upon your service time.
    If you're working some piss ass job don't sign up for their insurance but be clear first what VA services you have.
    If you're basically in good shape, no medical problems, you especially need to get this started bc you begin a medical record of yourself from the little to the major and then the VA will trace you medically as you get older. Preventive medicine in pushed greatly in the VA to promote you living a healthy life. We'll all vulnerable to health issues and many may be due to our lifestyle. Make an appointment to see a nutritionist, if you're having problems with drugs, alcohol or any mental/stress issues ask to be seen. None of this has to be military related.
    Homelessness: Let the VA know you're homeless and depending on where you're located you may be able to be housed and got at the root of what has you homeless particularly if you've been experiencing homelessness for years. Even if you've had criminal issues post military, there's assistance for you. Here where I live, the courts created a special court for vets bc veterans in large numbers are finding themselves on the wrong side of the law.
    Nobody is going to come looking to help you. So visit a VA facility and get the right info instead of listening to people on the internet with an agenda or airing their grievance and looking to form a group of mad angry bastards spiraling out of control to nowhere.

    What is the surprise here? Police have quotas for fines everywhere! Cops don't like doing it, so they try to cram all the monthly quotas into one or two days. In Vancouver - about as multiracial a city as you can get - it's usually the second day of the month for subway fare evasion and the first Wednesday for speeding tickets. Again, it has nothing to do with race. But there is a culture in North America that vies to be so anti-establishment that they pride themselves on being scofflaws... any wonder why cops would target them when trying to fill quotas? It's not racism, it's being lazy!

    • @AbbyNixon
      @AbbyNixon 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're right and you're wrong. It is about race and when cops have those two days to reach there quota, they hit the most vulnerable which is hit the Black people with the racist cops, complying court system and the compromising attorney if any. So it is about race. Ferguson is no surprise, read about the bust for marijuana in Orange County where there is no region with even 5% Black population but arrest are all double digits and in many cases border around 50% or more. But a course people like you think these are legitimate because apparently their criminal

    • @SophiaAphrodite

      The issue is no one questions the arrest and/or charges of a black man.

    • @Relbl
      @Relbl 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sophia Mefford Close... No one questions the arrest and/or charges of a poor man. Would you bat an eyelid at a 'trailer trash' white guy being hauled, or a latino guy in a tank top and hair net? Probably not, but if it's against blacks it must be racism... The political-racial divide is artificial; the wealth-class divide is very VERY real and in your face.

    • @AbbyNixon
      @AbbyNixon 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Relbl
      'm not surprised of your statement "political-racial divide is artificial; the wealth-class divide is very real" this is the delusion most whites grow up with. Nothing is relevant until it happens to whites and believe me most Blacks knew this forever but poor whites continued to be suckered by those they suck up to. The growth of technology and the dismantling of blue collar jobs has effected uneducated whites, so now there's an issue they can relate to. Poor whites still are their own problem bc they rather blame everyone but themselves while voting for and kissing the ass of Blue bloods who fuk them raw.
      Your comment shows selfish ignorance and that you realize despite ur economic demise at the hands of people like you, ur still keep ur head up their ass and in the sand

    Hang on a minute! Didn't I just hear Mr Maher say, "We all love money, we're Americans and there's nothing wrong with that." Then he starts criticising an American government for being... well, American. Using law enforcement to "generate revenue" is the logical result of a society that has no culture except the making money by any means possible. And of course you want to get your revenue from those who have the least possibility of successfully contesting their arrests and fines so the poor and the excluded are an excellent source.
