Look for the double ball bearing on the gear shaft behind the clutch. That play causes it. It was the reason why Kawasaki changed the clutch in 2016 for 3-spring light slipper. I’ve seen many. It also comes with clutch judder on the beginning and a rattling noise when downshifting
I have had the bike for a coupla yrs no problem. But then installed a quick shifter and a year later got the 4th gear slipping issue. Coincidence? Or just bad timing and it would have gone anyway? Is there a way to check somehow? Don't want to fix the gear and have my quickshifter damage it again.
Robert I'm am so gutted for you I really am, if the dogs are okay it maybe a bearing problem as I see it, once they are engaged in and the bearings are worn it will have a adverse effect on that shaft so they are not straight or in line hence it jumps out when you power up and engages again when you power off, I will talk to my son who is our chief mechanic he will know where the problem is, it will be a strange phenomenon if the weather does pick up again, anyway my friend again I am sorry it didn't work out I will speak soon hopefully with a fix ; )...
SooperSkoots hey thanks for the support I really appreciate it and yep any input is most welcome..Will prob hit me in the face what the prob is once the input and output shafts are out and your suggestion on bearing wear and the gears maybe oscillating make a a lot of sense .
Yep put the gear under load ..up to around 6000 then nail the throttle a.d see if it jumps out and quickly jumps back in gear again.. bot similar to clutch slip
Comfy Sofa ..yeh had a feeling this was only going one way lol but on the plus side the clutch was excellent . Already started the strip down ..and yep raining here too lol
NoNegotiations the standard rear is very hard and can upset the front too that's why I swooped mine out .. found the front good but u need to get the say right first .😉
Robert Wright well...I'm in the same boat with you....just about to start the rebuild on my hyper.....I think yours max will be a third or more cheaper than mine! Strange as I'd say the healtech would have been the best as it has the most granular control....the gear box on the hyper is perfect and I've got the healtech on there....weird...
Very sorry and disappointed 😭 Might have been a tolerance issue since factory...... Glad to hear that you can do the job yourself 👍 Looking forward to some great videos
I got all excited when I saw the upload. Right up until I saw the description. What a disappointment, particularly this time of year too. You'll get to the bottom of this before too long Im sure fella

What are the front suspension setting you're running. Pre-load? Ten? Comp?
NoNegotiations ...compression and rebound on stock settings, preload was set to get the sag right for my weight .
Thanks. I have 2016 Z1000. That's why I'm asking. I can't get the suspension right. It's either too soft or too hard for me.
NoNegotiations the standard rear is very hard and can upset the front too that's why I swooped mine out .. found the front good but u need to get the say right first .😉
