  • THIS IS GOING TO UPSET A LOT OF FOLKS BUT HERE IS THE REALY....THIS TRUCK HAS NEVER HAD THE POWER AND TOQUE THAT A TRUCK THIS SIZE SHOULD. IT DOESNT TOW WELL. FUEL MILEAGE IS AWFUL. THE MONROE DUALLY BED IS MADE POORLY. THE OUSTSIDES ARE FIBERGLASS AND WAVY. THE BED IS TOO HIGH FOR ANY PRACTICAL USE. I AM ALWAYS WATCHING MY TRAILER DOESNT SMASH THE TOP RAILS WHEN I HAVE A GOOSENECK OR 5TH WHEEL HOOKED UP. THE BED MOUTING SUB FRAME WAS CONFUSING TO ME. SOLID MOUNTED IN THE CENTER AND A SINGLE RUBBER MOUNT FRONT AND BACK. THE TRUCK RIDES AWFUL. THE "LINK" REAR AIR SUSPENSION ENGINEERING AND GEOMETRY COULD HAVE BEEN DONE SO MUCH BETTER. USED THE FACTORY BUMP STOPS AND A SHORT AIR BAG. THIS LEFT LIMITED TRAVEL. THE TRUCK WAS CONSTANTLY BOTTOMING OUT ON THE BUMP STOPS. SHORT AIR BAG WITH LIMITED TRAVEL REQUIRES MORE AIR PRESSURE TO KEEP IT FROM BOTTOMING OUT....MORE AIR PRESSURE IS A ROUGHER RIDE. THE BRAKE WARNING SYSTEM ON THESE TRUCKS IS A CONSTANT ISSUE. THE BRAKES THEM SELVES ARE GOOD AND HANDLE A LOADED TRAILER WELL.
SO HERE WE GO....WE ARE GOING TO BUILD THE TRUCK THAT GM SHOULD HAVE! THIS IS GOING TO BE A VERY LONG VIDEOS SERIES AND TAKE AN EXTREMELY LONG TIME TO COMPLETE. IT WONT BE CHEAP BUT IT WILL BE WHAT I NEED AND WANT THE TRUCK TO BE. THE BIG QUESTION STILL REMAINS......IS IT ALL WORTH IT?

I owned a commercial truck and trailer manufacturing facility for 28 years . I hated when a customer would tell us they were bringing us a Monroe to put a trailer on !

I drove to Monroe in Wisconsin in 2006 to get side steps installed. When I finally found their shop after getting lost they laughed and said all the G.P.S. systems took people on a wild goose chase...I said WHY Didn't you tell me that when I called an hour ago? I should have known better and left but I had already driven 90 minutes there. The steps I wanted wouldn't fit even though the salesman told me it would. They broke one of my heated mirrors which I didn't notice until I was 30 minutes away, had to drive back and argue with them until they installed a new one. The wiring for the lights on the step weren't secured so when ice built up on them it ruined the lights. The company is a complete joke.

I'm always leery of aftermarket upfitters. The quality is usually pretty shoddy. At the dealership I work for, we got a couple Express conversion vans through that were done by Explorer. Seems like everything was held in place with self tapping sheetmetal screws. The exhausts didn't clear the plastic fenders, so they ended up melting them(added tips to remedy it). Also had to move the anchors for a cooler because it wouldn't latch. I feel bad for whoever has to work on them down the road.

A lot of people want these trucks especially low miles like yours , I think the only reason it didn’t sell was the color!

You mentioned that you were fixing everything that GM did wrong, from what I can tell you are putting it back to what GM originally built and the secondary vendor messed up. I have a 05 5500 ex U haul truck with the gas motor. This truck has been the best purchase that I have ever made, after cutting the frame and adding a 16 foot flat bed it performs great every time I use it.

JC…. just do it the way you want it done. I’ve always enjoyed the videos that you’ve been posting. This is just as good as your previous videos. Thanks so much for sharing and being so honest about everything that you’ve done to this point.

Always a treat to watch your vlog's, I called my brother to let him know that you are starting a new project. I gotta say that I enjoy that my brother and I can talk because I am much older than he is and until I started watching your platform we didn't talk all that much. But over the past 3 years we talk after ever episode now. And I thank you for that brother. As always sending blessings from my family up here in the foothills of Mt Rainer, Washington state.
