    It was great hanging out with you and filming together! It's cool seeing the final videos on both our channels - even though we filmed at the same locations we covered different topics and you can see our different styles of video making. 😀

      Great video, I have a question for Mr. Ninja Teacher...I have the requirements to be an English teacher but I have heard it is very very difficult to gain employment if I am not a native English speaker. How true is that?

      @@Aksuited84 Hi Hoa. It's not impossible but it can be more difficult as many employers prefer native speakers. We have seen non natives get jobs though!

    Thanks for all of these videos that people like you make to help us, researchers, out. I’m deeply concerned that the world economy is on the verge of a major financial collapse and I’m considering several countries to move to. Although I have spent my whole life in Canada, I am now looking to go into cash and live somewhere inexpensively while I wait things out over the next two years or so before getting back into the markets. Vietnam and Portugal are on my shortlist as they are affordable (I don’t plan to work) and the people are genuine. Anyhow, thanks again for all these great videos. Much appreciated.

    It doesn’t matter that you’re a native or non native English speaker, knowing English and teaching English are totally different….and I hope those who want to be teachers knowing that….beside of having your degree in English, you got to have the teacher credentials which require you to complete many courses of teaching programs, to pass the teaching tests in order to have a teacher certificate or license, and to complete some hands-on training in order to have some experiences…..I’m not a teacher and I can’t be a teacher even though I have 2 degrees of MS, and PharmD….I don’t know much about the education system in VN but I hope that it will be the same because teaching someone is the most important job of all kinds….🙏🙏

    Aie. In the Philippines they also just whack the chicken pieces with a cleaver, leaving bone chips. It seems odd when you can separate joints and not worry about bone chips when you're eating. They also eat a lot of fish, so maybe people just get used to watching for bones while eating.

    @What The Pho Would you consider doing a video about studying in Vietnam as an international student (not exchange student) and some pros and cons? Talking to my Vietnamese friends they all discourage this choice, they say “I know Vietnam won’t let you down, but think carefully” I know there are many places in the world where education ranks better, but I get discouraged by those statements cause I’d love to give Vietnam an opportunity, would you consider sharing with us your thoughts about that?

    I would love to see more videos of interviews of locals rather than of expats. TH-cam is full of videos of expats in VN so the content just isn't as interesting. Interviews of what 20 something do normally if they weren't teaching English. What is a job at VinGroup like? How about college tours in Hanoi? Interviews of someone that works in a hospital. You should do them in Vietnamese and sub-title in English if needed. I just thing there are way more interesting content than these English teacher type videos. Any expat could have done this video, you speak both Vietnamese and English, you should use that to your advantage.

I have another 2 friends whom have degree's and even through COVID where employed and allowed in Vietnam through the restrictions, so job security and pay is better with a degree. I have a degree in psychology, and 3 years in Tourism and education industry I'm going to try head over as soon as borders open . try get that degree it opens doors abroad... in 2024 I'll be doing my PGCE (The Postgraduate Certificate in Education), so I can teach in most schools around the world then with experience, the world is your oyster as a teacher.

    Hi Alex and Van, thanks for the video. I was wondering what job opportunities are like for more experienced teachers? I have a BA, Cambridge CELTA and about 8 years of English language teaching experience. Here, schools can be reluctant to to hire more experienced teachers because they cost more (higher salaries). What's it like in Vietnam? Thanks so much!

    • @ninja.teacher
      @ninja.teacher 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Matthew, I’d say there does seem to be a salary cap in normal ESL positions in Vietnam, so with your qualifications and experience you would be able to get on the higher end of the range but it might not increase past that to reflect the amount of experience you have. There are exceptions to this though. Also, a lot of teachers move into management or get a teaching license to teach at international schools if they want to increase their salaries.

    I was in Vietnam during the US - Vietnam war in 1969 and 1970. I have been back to Vietnam twice to visit recently, and I was amazed at how fast Vietnam has developed. I tried learning a little Vietnamese before my trip, but I quickly realized that the Vietnamese who have studied English for years in school, were much better at English than I was in Vietnamese. I had difficulty hearing the different tones. Unfortunately, I found that if someone approached me speaking good English, they were often trying to cheat me. If I initiated the contact, the Vietnamese were very helpful and friendly. I love Vietnamese food, but especially loved the different flavors of ice cream that were only available in Vietnam.

      That's why Filipino food is not as popular as other SE Asian foods like Vietnamese and Thai. Compared to others around the area, your food is blander...lots of vinegar and no amazing platters of herbs and veggies to make it stand out.

      Agreed. Filipino food looks simpler and not complex like Thai and Vietnamese. That's likely one reason why the taste and look of it isn't appealing to Westerners like the other Asian cuisines

      @@janchxxheonczsekk6412 Or it's just as simple as it doesn't taste as good when compared to other SE Asian cuisines. You'd think with as many Filipinos running around in the US (4x as much as Vietnamese) and the fact that Filipinos embrace Western culture more than other Asian cultures, it'd be otherwise as you guys are loudly out there spreading the word. But the fact remains, the cuisine just isn't up to par. That's why Sonny from the "Best Ever Food Review Show" chose to move to Vietnam even though he spent time in the Philippines and other countries. And no other big food reviewer (Sonny, Mark Wiens, the Food Ranger) chose to move there or live there. You'd think they'd feel more comfortable since the Filipinos are more familiar with western people/culture and unlike in Vietnam, people speak English.
