I grew up in the 5 cities/ Pismo Beach, Calif. I went to school there and graduated there. After grauation i traveled 46 of our 50 United States..I also visited Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas..I graduated 1977. Years later when I returned home, I didnt even recognize the area. All the Natural beauty had been destroyed. Concrete and Neon lights were now everywhere, including shopping malls, and the beaches ( my old play ground and love of my youth) were changed to gaurd shacks and beach patrol officers...all the family owned little resturants and tourist shops had been replace.. Prices were through the roof.. I wanted to cry...my memories were destroyed...All those rich people who retired with their big pentions from L.A. and San Francisco came here and bought up all the coastal land to build their big, fancy, expensive homes, which in turn raised the cost of living here and those same people turn a Natural landscape beauty into another Disneyland...they have priced the locals out, so many had to leave...It breaks my heart so bad to see it the way it is now, I will never return...Ill keep my loving memories in my head and in my photo albums...
The neon is in downtown Pismo, and at Wild Bills but its been that way for decades. I still go to most of the old restaurants. Me & Zs is gone. The owner who cooked retired. Giuseppe’s was rebuilt after the fire.
The fog is marine layer, all beach communities north of Carpentaria have marine layer. There are still most of the old restaurants in Pismo/5cities even though some posters have declared they are all gone. Giuseppes pizza & Italian food, Umi Sushi on Grand Ave next to the bicycle shop, both great & still here. The Station Grill is still here, Sylvesters burgers in Oceano, the Train car, Old Juan’s Cantina has better food than ever & so does the beach restaurant on Grover Beach next to the golf course & the mobile home park. You can still take horses there to off load them in the dirt parking behind the restaurant. All the old favorite restaurants in Shell Beach are still here with 1 or 2 new ones. I recommend the old Spyglass Inn instead of going to the other ocean side restaurants on the cliffs to eat looking at the sea. At Spyglass you can sit outside on the cliff at round picnic tables under a beach umbrella & eat. Most of the tourists think its just a hotel restaurant. It isn’t. I have gone there at 2pm in tourist season and gotten a table immediately. In Arroyo Grande in the Village the Old village grill & Branch Street grill still here. Rooster Creek is different. Klondikes pizza, still here. CJ’s on Grand Avenue which is great for breakfast, still here. The dinosaur park at shell beach is better now, especially for kids. Lots of new climbable things in the park playground. Sinclair Gas station is relatively cheaper gas. Poppy gas also is cheaper. Prices on groceries at Trader Joes are usually decent. Smart & Final groceries are cheapest in the 5 cities. In Avila there is a nice new camping area for RVs up on the hills near the dry docks. The restaurants have changed a bit, but Fat Cats is still there, tucked away next to the dry docks and near a little tourist items shop. Fat Cats has always had open tables when I go there even in tourist season, but we eat closer to 2 pm. They serve breakfast as well, which attracts the native bees. They aren’t hostile just attracted to the smell of syrup.
Avila Barn is still a little petting zoo and farmers market, a bit expensive. They fire roast whole ears of corn now in a little kiosk for $5, and there is a small ice cream parlor.
I live in Ventura, California and it's foggy here almost every day from May-June. July has had a lot more sunny days, but it's still foggy on the beach. I can go to the park in the hills and it's sunny there. The fog won't clear up until around October when the Santa Ana winds come. Then all retirees who like to fly their little planes over my house all morning long and every day of the week will start to show up because it'll be clear outside.
Climate issues exist everywhere in the US. There are no ice storms, tornados(?) subzero temperatures, long term winters etc. I grew up in Wis., have lived in Louisiana and New Mexico. You can't escape mother nature. This is referred to as a Mediterranean climate. Crime is in every city. People who need the experience of a distinct change of seasons would've pretty foolish to expect it on the coast. Anyway, love it here.
Wow!! A local real estate agent saying "don't buy here". Real smart. I love it here and just avoid going down town on weekends and holidays but we do depend on the tourism revenue. Come to Pismo!!
Spent a long time along the Central Coast. That area, the five cities south of SLO, have chilly weather, poor access to just about any competitive retail markets (expensive!) and generally high cost of living overall.
Love ❤️ Pismo beach 🏖️ lived here since 2016 !!! Be positive in life and I know that a great deal of ca realtors don’t like the competition from the east as buying here ???
LOL - funny. I grew up in (old) San Francisco 20 short blocks from the beach. We were "kids of the fog" (and cold). Yeah I am older now but I love the fog espec living in Palm Springs now. Uh! The sun never goes away!
@@sueprator9314 I wouldn't even live in Palm Springs because that's similar to Saudi Arabia weather. There is place nera Palm Springs called 'Mecca' because it's so hot out there. I would probably keep going east until I get to Flagstaff if I was to move east of Ventura County.
Pismo is good living. If you didn't buy here 30 years ago good luck. Not many jobs. Fog is pretty thick most mornings. Wind in the spring. October/November: gorgeous.

We go to visit and camp once in a while from Bakersfield. It’s ok if it’s not a holiday
You never lived in Pismo beach. You are a TH-cam Bolshevik trying to create a narrative. Much of what you said happened in the 80s.
@@kanders7391Downtown parking has been revamped!
June, that's called progress. Change is bound to happen over time, because that's what happens - things aren't meant to stay the same forever.

To say no snow is a downside is like saying there is no alien abductions. Hardly a bad thing 🤣. The fog and the price are significant though…

@@jackj5368 do you live on the central coast? In Pismo?
