I’ve lived all over CA and grew up in the Central Valley- the Central Coast is by far a paradise in comparison to any other area. It is in my opinion one of the most beautiful places in the country. Clean air, limited traffic (in comparison to others parts of CA), perfect weather and an overall healthy style of living. Hoping to move there soon!

You forgot the #1 reason most people wouldn’t like it. The surrounding countryside and hills are so brown and barren most of the year which is really unattractive. If someone is used to a lush & green environment it will be a major downside.

Another issue when I lived on the central coast in the 90s are the police and judicial system. If you got arrested for a crime you didn’t commit, there was a prosecutor who had a 100% conviction rate, and he wouldn’t even entertain the possibility that you were innocent.

    Well done.
Videos like this demonstrate your excellent character that led me to choose you as a realtor.
I remember MANY years ago when my older brother moved to Baywood Park he took me to a protest at Diablo Canyon. He was a (recovering) hippie at the time and I'd never seen anything like that before. Here we are generations later and all is well. Now that CO2 is a 'pollutant', clean plentiful energy like this is even more of an asset. PLUS, in the even of a profound drought, it will take nuclear power to run desalinization which would be instrumental for living in SLO.
As a pilot I can vouch that SLO (and to a different degree PRB) are excellent well run airports.
Want a bigger airport? Move to a bigger city. But then you lose the SLO life. Better to drive to SFO or LAX if needed.
As far as weather is concerned, a person can choose whatever weather they want when they pick their parcel. Microclimates = choice.
Having lived in the Bay Area, NY, NJ, CT and now WA, I choose the SLO life for me and my family. One person's loss is another's gain as it were. Besides, like our parents told us, nothing good happens after 11 PM ;-)
As far as traffic goes, SLO is nothing compared to other places, and the PCH is a privilege to drive on. People come from all over the world to drive the PCH.
As far as the cold ocean goes, I don't even have one, and you can bet SLO is warmer than Washington.
Regarding tourism, money is a good thing. Also, Topeka, Kansas has no significant tourism industry. There is a reason I'd rather live where people travel TO rather than travel FROM.
The only downside, in my book is the money. Want to live in the (what I consider) the best place in the country? Bring A LOT of money and trade it in.

    Phoenix currently: 118.
    Morro Bay: 65
I’ll take that all day every day. As for the nuclear plant, we have the huge Palo Verde plant about 20 miles west of Phoenix.

We have a small home in unincorporated SLO near Arroyo Grande. I can't think of much negative except the dune buggies on the beach. Hope that ends soon.

That dune buggy stuff really drags us down. Bad for the wildlife and environment. It's a dated activity that trashes the environment and our image.

The best part about SLO Cal is that it's local, low key, and that SoCal hates it. It's the only place in California that I truly love.

May Gray, June Gloom are factors throughout much of California. Here in SLO County we also have No-Sky July and my personal favorite, Fog-ust. But it is far from an anomaly as Summer in San Francisco usually means a light jacket and Santa Monica July can mean Sun from
3-5 PM. Twenty-five miles inland it could be 30 degrees warmer, as well.

It's a very inclusive area, meaning that it can take years..literally years to develop meaningful friendships - unless you are from Bakersfield/Fresno. Then you are just simply surrounded by your kin. Lived in a lot of different places. This is by far the least friendliest and very conservative part of California. Great if you're conservative, terrible if you are progressive minded.

Central Coast is only one Earthquake away from becoming ano Fukushima, don’t move here!!!
The nuke plant is located near fault zone not known until after construction. Never mind the largest known fault,San Andreas runs nearby.
Nuke Plant is 40 years old and recently granted extension to operate until 2035.

Central Coast is the best region of CA and the weather, the Pacific, the SLO life are just some of the reasons why. The positives far outweigh the negatives. Almost anywhere else has so many more negatives than the Central Coast of CA.

Not that I'm against it, but this gal here⬆️ is a bit on the snobby side. She Is lovely, but kind of acting out of the Oprah- - Prince of England Harry. Those people who live here in this area who don't really want to have a bunch of other people living in the area. Rich kind of attitude because if you live in Central Coast, which is like Santa Maria, Guadalupe, Morro bay basically the richest places in the world, not Santa Maria so much, But the secret areas that is between point sal. And let's say Santa Barbara, that nobody talks about where Ellen DeGeneres lives in that sort of area. which is on the other side Santa Barbara County Not Santa Luis obispo county. You just have to make one little skip to Santa, Barbara or LAX which is right like down the street and when she says like whatever she said about the whatever the minutes where. That is if you drive if you fly, it's like 20 minutes. Now, having said that, I... I'm with the snobs we don't really need you to be coming here. Around here or around the central coast", because there's plenty of people, there's plenty of money and we don't need tourism or anything so you know, bugger off basically, as the English would say.😊

I visited SLO a week ago. Thought I would love it. Hated it. Hotel was dirty and basic. Ralph’s was not friendly. Extremely expensive groceries. Madonna Inn is running on fumes. Food is no longer good. We were told it was great. Couldn’t find decent pizza if I paid a million bucks. SLO is Emotionally Stunted and weird. No culture. Nothing interesting. What’s all the bear names? You don’t have bears there! All the Caucasian-esque names. Just the way you all say Paso Robles tells me where you are culturally. People are either rich and snotty or poor and trashy. Felt secretly Trumpy. Where are your gay folks? Reminded me of Missouri with palm trees. We are continuing our search for a home because SLO ain’t it.
