Great advice, Luke. Being prepared is one thing. Being paranoid is another. There is a fine line between the two. So, each person needs to find that line and remember the definition of 'practicable'.

Good morning Luke. Being 74 years old and being 10 years old during the Cuban missile crisis and listening to the emergency broadcast system tests for most of my childhood I've come up with a fool proof plan for nuclear war. You go find the most structurally sound place in your home, huddle down in a doorway so you have good back support, pull your legsup toward your chest, stick your head between your legs and kiss your @$$ goodbye. Nobody will survive. So, you are right. If you survive the initial shock, what happens next will undoubtedly be worse. The only real survival method is to pray. God bless and have a wonderful day. 👍👍🙂

Be helpful. Do what you can do because nobody can do everything. Help others. Smile. It will drive people crazy. 😀 Be happy because stuff happens . My favorite saying … “ it is what it is”. Possibly one of the most closely watched elections with the highest integrity so far. A win for all the volunteers who mustered their courage and gave their time.
Chicago winters with -27F temps and -48F wind chills and icy roads or deep snows tend to encourage a 3-month supply of freezer and shelf stock. Trips to the grocery store are best limited to one or two bags of fresh produce. Ice on power lines sometimes result in power outages during a wind storm. Comfort and convenience (and coffee addiction) are primary concerns. Preparations are practical efforts for the sake of convenience rather than avoidance of a threat. A true Midwesterner has their year's supply of shovels, scrapers, salt, window insulation and snow blower maintenance ready by Thanksgiving. It's a time of abundance, gratitude and celebration. Christmas lights go up in nice weather but are turned on after Thanksgiving. Minimal white outdoor lights might stay lighted through the dark and stormy days of January, February and March. If you're going to be outside, have fun snow shoeing or crosscountry skiing or s to wedding, not schlepping things in a parking lot.
Even though there is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing, it's easier to stay warm when you're having fun. ☕🛷🏂⛷️🏈🏒⛸️

Real meat, pan bread etc. Cheers from Norway:)

Im curious about something. Now don't get me wrong, Luke is super knowledgeable and I enjoy watching his channel and I have been doing so for years however, is it just me or is Luke over packing for being in one spot for 1 late afternoon / evening 1 night? Its very important to be prepared yes, but he gets where hes going when its already very late in the day, sets up and unpacks and then is already talking about getting out of there super early in the morning. How is that relaxing? It seems like a lot of work for just 1 night.Plus hes saying how cool it is but waits until it completely dark to light the fire? lol With that said, I do love your videos Luke!☺️☺️

Yeah, our church sent two semis loaded with many supplies to Asheville one week after Helene. What would benefit Americans is cooking at home and eating healthy meals like organic grass fed beef in place of industrialized meat. Cutting out all soda. Contributes to diabetes which is rampant in this country. We just started eating ground bison. Its good.

Luke, I agree with you about prepping. I threw away 25 pounds of rice that was vacuum packed in mylar. The sealed mylar was also sealed in heavy duty food grade plastic buckets with lids in my garage. Upon inspection, I discovered a rodent had chewed its way through to the rice. The rice was defiled with urine and droppings. I now keep only enough food to survive a season. It stores nicely in my rodent free home.

I have to agree with you about not preparing for a nuclear war. Even the rich that have bunkers don’t take in consideration what they will be surviving to. Vegetation and everything else will be destroyed. So I can say I rather not survive. I’ll spend my money on living now. Besides, humans will fight over food when it’s scarce and I can’t see having to stand guard over my food either.

WOW. Of all the bushcraft channels I have in my subscription catalog, I do believe this is my first American channel.
Don't get me wrong; I'm American.
But many, many of our home channels bring along a political agenda and/or a lack of rational thinking. I understand that this particular field of interest attracts a certain type of person (like me, but also not like me). That makes it hard for me to settle in on some channels. This results in many that I watch being Canadian, Scandinavian or European. It's so awesome to find a channel like yours on home ground, with our climate, wildlife and resources.
So excited to be here, thank you for the hard work!

Somewhere there should be a NOAA track of the wind speeds. They are recorded continuously. Reason I say that the same damage is evident 70 miles west of me in the Red River Gorge area putting the distance at about 250- 270 miles northwest from you. The wind came so fast it either broke the trees off up on them or pulled them roots and all out of the ground and threw them several to many feet away. It had to be high level winds as it crossed the Blue ridge at Mt. Mitchell over 6000 ft high then cross the Clinch, Black and Pine mountains to get there plus a range of 2400 ft high mountains around me. Long way from the coast.

iam 80 and y childhood was filled with worry about nuclear war, We had duck&cover drills in school, and educatioal films i class about what to doif you see a flash, get down in a ditch or up aaist the curb in te street, face down, hamds & arms protecting head. and wait fo the shock wave, then get up and run. home. People built fall- out shelters in their back yards and basements if they had a basement. In those early days we did not have the Distant Early Warning, radar- DEW -line on our northern border. We lived in Montana, and had a Ground Observer hut on the prairie away from the town lights. i could see the red light in the hut from my bed room window at night, ad hear the coyotes, too. . Our Girl Scout troop got to visit the hut and even spend time with the volunteer, who watched the sky 24/7 , ID’ed every plane and called it in to an Air Force base somewhere in the area. That all seems rather primitive nowdays, but it was during the cold war in the 1950’s.. Thing is if you are far enough away from the blast zone, you will want to survive -in a fallout shelter.. My sons were in Civil Air Patrol and i was the their unit’s nurse, had a uniform and everything, went to the meetings, All about Civil Defence,- gieger counters, doseimeters, a large book on every aspect of living iand making a fallout shelter, in the basement or crawl space in a home. Radiation concerns came up for those living on the west coast . after the the meltdown of Fukushima. reactor in Japan. yes, there was radiation that reached our area. But the radiation monitors on tall buildings in Seattle, stopped working. so time todust of the old geiger counter and book from CAP days. years before. i am saddened to hear aout nuclear war fears. the best way to deal with fear is information, learn how to protect yourself from fallout , it is the radioactive dust particles that are dangerous, the radiation is only in the dust, it will not contaminate canned food or bottled water as the radationn passes through the containers, and the dust can be washed off.,Communication with Civl Defense authorities is needed if you do not have a geiger counter, like battery radio. tuned to the CD staation. informaion about all this iavailable on line. there are many things you can do to have on hand as a precaution Usually the radioactive half-life of the dust is short, a matter of days or weeks, depending on the bomb type.. Then we can have some peace of mind and get on with our daily life. information is free and is the key. radioactive dust usually has a half life of about 2 weeks, and after about 2 weeks the dust should stop falling. and we can come out of the shelter. But lets pray that we will never have to take shelter. that there will be no nuclear war.. and as Luke says: Strength and Honor. 🇺🇸

In the case of places where it snows and you have a truck, building out the bed isn’t that expensive to do buddy heater or small butane heater, as long as you have fuel you should be ok if you had to hunker down and wait for help.

Luke, that tree that fell during the storm at your campsite will now be firewood for you. A simple camping trip is a bag and two sticks to make a fire. You got great gear kind, sir. Love the video of hiking in. Ordered the stove you made coffee with. That little sucker works great in my hunting blind for making a pot of coffee. Not a big pot but a 6 cup pot. That stuff you were drinking is not manly enough for me. I like my coffee to cruise along at 70 mph and then kick the afterburner in up to 100. My dad and uncle taught me how to make coffee a long time ago. Got too old to do the camping you do. My back no longer tolerates the ground. Keep these videos coming my friend. I enjoy them everytime.

My preps have been to put aside food before it became more and more expensive. So maybe my family could survive without having to pay exorbitant prices for food and basic supplies. The only preparation I have made for a nuclear war is a pistol and 1 round of ammunition…. If you get my drift. I have coyotes come in very close to my house and sometimes they will keep howling for hours if I let them. I’ve found that a gunshot always quiets them down really quickly. Try it sometime.

I understand about making a video but watching your effort to get over the downed tree (1:10), only to end up on the side where the camera had already been placed, was (probably) unintentionally funny. But I like your videos anyhow. Just was funny.

Luke, while we sit (I for sure) on our comfy couches and LEARN from your experiences and suffering, don't ever think you "can't" go on and on about the damage. The fact that you do with VIDEO clips to show it, HAS INCREDIBLE IMPACT on my experience watching your expedition (especially at about 5:30 into it!!). I"m very much an outdoors person and I can see how incredible the "once in a thousand year" storm just whipped up those trees and root balls right out of the ground and threw them everywhere! Amazed you got there at all!!

I ordered a 10 pack of magnets with eye hooks from amazon (fairly cheap ) . they work pretty well too .... hopefully they wont rust out

For the prepper. Friend of mine did just that. Built a building bought the food about ten years back. You need any stop by and get some. Fuel, gen set all kinds stuff. It ain't happened yet and the spoil date is coming up. Spent at least a 100K USD ten years back, double or triple that now.

Adult stage deer ticks become active every year after the first frost. They’re not killed by freezing temperatures, and while other ticks enter a feeding diapause as day-lengths get shorter, deer ticks will be active any winter day that the ground is not snow-covered or frozen. This surprises people, especially during a January thaw or early spring day. Remember this fact and hopefully you’ll never be caught off-guard.

I remember the devastation after Yasi, our cat 5 cyclone. We didn’t get a whole lot of rain but the electrical storm afterwards did. Live in far northern Australia so definitely want a tent between the numerous venomous animals and my family/ and I. Remember a friend having a snake underneath his sleeping bag. Idk what sort it was but he took it like a champ. Knew the snake was cold and just slowly got up and moved away from it. The dogs annoyed it enough that it made its way into the scrub

If you like Real turmat you should try their Pulled pork. Its doing circles around the reindeer stew. Its considering their best tasting meal. I tasted all meals they have many times and agree! Also really good is Chicken curry and pasta bolognese. The reindeer stew taste alot of ”freezedry” and its pretty blend buts ok.
