    Thank you so much for this. Thomas Taylor wrote many great works, including this dissertation. He reminds me a lot of Marsilio Ficino. It really is a special endeavour to devote your time to Thomas Taylor’s works and translations! Thank you!

    I'd love it, as I'm sure others would, too....if you did a biography and analysis of Thomas Taylor. He was also very influential in his circle and he introduced Blake to Neoplatonic ideas, that clearly resonated in his thought and poetry. Excellent reading, by the way.

      I've been strongly considering doing a little thing on Taylor's influence, particularly on Blake and people like Manly P. Hall. I will consider harder.

      Sometimes I think of recording things in Latin but I think the algodaemons would punish me for putting out a video nobody would watch all the way through. I did it a while back with Chapter 1 of Giordano Bruno's De Magia years back but it didn't really take off. (I also used restored classical pronunciation for a 16th c. work, and I think that could have annoyed some people).
      This particular Taylor text has quite a bit of Latin and Greek in it, but I decided against reading it because it would have lengthened everything by another hour, and he provides his own English translations after each instance of classical languages anyhow.
      Parts 2 and 3 come out today and tomorrow.

    Thanks for sharing! Love the mystery traditions. My son's father's line ties in with Bacchus while mine/my father's Apollo. Going to be using some of these traditions in teaching/ homeschooling with my son when he gets older. He has sun in Leo conjunct his north node and mercury in Virgo conjoined his Jupiter, hopefully a future philosopher king to come xx

    Thw ergot theory re the kykeon really doesn't answer a lot of the fundamental questions anyway. The Road to Eleusis doesn't suggest that it's the entirety of the experience.

    • @TheModernHermeticist
      @TheModernHermeticist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm a supporter of the psychoactive kykeon theory; I just think lately there's been a lot more attention on that than on the Eleusinian theology, and for this reason reading Taylor is a breath of fresh air.

    • @SavageHenry777
      @SavageHenry777 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheModernHermeticist Yeah I agree; context, suggestion and prior conditioning were probably more important to deliver such a compelling theurgic impression. Also, I'm a big fan congrats on your PhD!

    • @CourtesyPhone
      @CourtesyPhone 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It makes sense, but it gets too much attention, there's a lot more interesting mysteries about the eleusis than "LOOK BRO LSD TERRANCE MCKENNA XD"

    • @Ratnoseterry
      @Ratnoseterry 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's definitely not the entirety of the experience, the plays mentioned that would take place during the initiation would play a very important role in shaping the experience, as well as the language being used and an already deep familiarity with localized myth and the way different myths intertwine while not necessarily telling the same story would flesh out what was being shown. When it comes to things like ayahuasca it's said the person imbibing it will often be taken into the landscape where the ingredients are being collected, and a relation is made between the plant and a snake that lives in the same area which creates a link in the mind that influences how the spirit of the plant appears to you. In this example, the form of a serpent with a feminine presence. This has always stuck with me as likely being extremely important to the teachings of the Mysteries, but together with the imagery in the plays on a more immense level to remove you from your base societies collective iconography. 🙏

    • @Ratnoseterry
      @Ratnoseterry 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      To expand on this from a Jungian perspective if one dared, and is a great place to begin understanding the mechanisms behind the Mysteries, the society you live in has fed you base archetypes that are reflected off the anima and animus. This is why some people see aliens, or elves, or large hairy man like beings. These are replaced during the initiation. To further expand, some initiation were taken when one was to leave his homeland for the sea, or a journey to a new society, and I personally am of the opinion this is because when you journey somewhere you have never been with no familiarity like a dense woodland, an open ocean, or death, reality becomes much less grounded, and you must be prepared for the projections* and reflections that will be thrown across your own psychic landscape.
