FILM DESCRIPTION:
Kaulder (Vin Diesel), a witch hunter, is cursed with immortality by the Witch Queen (Julie Englbrecht) right before she dies at his hand. As a result, he has been tracking down evil witches for centuries while leading a lonely existence separated from his wife and daughter. When the Witch Queen returns from the dead seeking retribution, a battle ensues and the fate of humanity hangs in the balance. Directed by Breck Eisner (The Crazies). Honestly, I would have loved it if the witched cursed the MOST incompetent Hunter, spending eternity JUST out of reach of getting a kill without sacrificing so much.
If you were gonna curse someone with undeath why would you give them regenerative powers? Surely slowly losing your limbs, eyesight, having your hearing deteriorate, your looks fade and wrinkle would be far more horrifying?
NoThank Yu Two explanations. A) immortality spells possibly don't work like that, even for someone as powerful as the Witch Queen. Even though magic can bend or even sometimes break the laws of physics, there are still rules and limitations to it. Regenerative powers could just be the method which the curse used to ensure he not only never dies, but that his body doesn't break down so badly it can't even sustain his mind or soul anymore. B) The Witch Queen wanted him as healthy as possible because as much as it might suck to be injured and disease-ridden without being able to die, it's much worse being forced to watch anyone you care about or get close to suffer the same fate while you remain invulnerable, making them beg and plead for you to somehow save them from such a fate only to resent and hate you when you can't. Kaldur has done his best to avoid that part of the curse by only keeping his long line of Dolans as permanent companions, but that doesn't mean it still hasn't taken a tole on him, or that there haven't been exemptions throughout the centuries. We see in the movie that once Kaldur learns the truth about the source of his immortality, he says that the Axe and Cross was wrong to keep him alive for so long, meaning he's been willing to die for a while, but had accepted that he can't.
Because his life is tied to hers.
