I think the Toyota Prius was more revolutionary than the Tesla Model S. It is easy to build a 100,000 $ car with high-tech in it. But it is much harder to invent a new drivetrain (the power split hybrid) which is more efficient, more reliable and affordable at the same time. They went into a completely differerent direction than all other carmakers which all developed downsized turbo engines, like the mentioned Ford Ecoboost.
