    I practice piano for 12 years professionally, but recently watched Nodame Cantabile anime and really liked Nodame's character (she is soo relatable, and she is pianist just like me), and I liked an episode when Nodame played melodica, so I decided to discover more about this instrument 🌸 And your channel is really good!

      @@alanbrinton4659 Yes, it actually takes a lot of effort to learn how to play with effortless freedom. This is something I don't think is emphasised in the books like the inner game of tennis and others that point towards the 'less is more' principle. The right sort of effort - disciplined, gentle training, is like a reprogramming, so that when you do let go in performance, the body is free of tension and conflict, open to spontaneous expression

    What a brilliant lesson. I've dabbled with Melodica on and off for years, the result: I can't play anything! I used to have the Hohner Alto, which I gave to one of my daughters. Then I picked up an old grey Hohner Piano 26 (Augustus Pablo style) from ebay. Then, thinking I was at last going to take it more seriously, I splashed out on a beautiful Suzuki Melodion M-37 at a local music shop - but in 10 years I've barely played it. It's such a shame, so I've subscribed to your channel and I'm going to start with this first lesson and see how far it takes me. Wish me luck!

    Which of these lessons would you suggest for someone who already knows how to play a "normal" keyboard, but wants to play melodica too? (mostly because it's a keyboard instrument i can actually easily busk with lol) . Are there lessons I can skip because they just cover what I know as a keyboardist? - I've noticed in some videos that you're somehow able to bend notes using a melodica - which lesson teaches me how to do this?
    So far I find it pretty natural to use when using the hose mouth piece, but playing it "sideways" when i use the shorter mouth piece will take some getting use to (reminds me of when I got a keytar and had to learn how to play keys "upside down")

    • @MelodicaWorld
      @MelodicaWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you already play the piano you probably won’t need the lessons, as you can learn a lot from just trying things out. I don’t bend notes, but sometimes they can sound like that when playing fast...

    • @MelodicaWorld
      @MelodicaWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Once you can play slowly and in time, you can try speeding up slightly. Watch that you don't introduce any extra muscular tension while you do this. If you speed it up a little, and find that you're making mistakes, then go back to slow practising. The vast majority of my practice is very slow, even when its for a fast piece! Its all about learning to stay relaxed at every stage

    So, I have a melodica of the type pictured in your video at 12 seconds in, and have found nothing explaining proper fingering. I suspect it is meant to be played with 4 fingers and the thumb underneath (as in this video: th-cam.com/video/sNn3sN1GDoM/w-d-xo.html), and not the way I learned how to play a piano.
    All the videos I've seen have a melodica with an actual piano keyboard on it, often with a tube extension so you can lay it flat before you.
    Do you have any videos with this type of melodica?

    • @MelodicaWorld
      @MelodicaWorld  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t have any instructions for these melodicas. But I play them with just the right hand, holding the melodica with the left. This way you treat the white buttons as white keys and black buttons as black keys. You can the follow my normal instruction videos. While these melodicas look great, they can be awkward to play

    • @kitkollector2633
      @kitkollector2633 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've seen a few variations on TH-cam. One braced it with their left and played like a piano on the right. Another had thumbs under and played the melody line with the right and the bass with the left. And I've seen others who use a combo of both hands with thumbs under.
      I have my mothers who had it growing up in school, but doesn't remember how they were told to play it.
      I'm surprised I haven't seen more out there. I think I'm going to have to look at scales and come up with a series of thumb positions you move through as you play with your four fingers.
      I'll keep googling. Maybe there are some vintage instruction manuals that show how the company envisioned it.
      Thanks for your quick reply!
      I also like your Unola. I'm assuming it's one of a kind and can't be obtained anywhere. It seems we are approaching concertina territory with buttons on each hand to play melodies, although we can just blow air in rather than having to pump like an accordion.
