Nah, you're not alone. Recently, I got recommended a video from 10 years ago of someone who animated bad apple on an apple (as in the fruit)... It was impressive.
The fact it's under the Apps menu and not the Prgm menu means this is pure assembly. And the fact interpreted TIBASIC can't run this fast. *Someone likely hand-wrote Z80 assembly code for this.*
From what I've seen around, basically the notes are stored as like some app var (ir possibly even RAM directly) and synthesised. From there, it appears that there is some script that takes the notes and shoves it out of the I/O slot (which is just an over glorified 2.5mm audio jack) and that's how the audio works, or so I think and assume.
Its almost like this display technology was designed to play music videos XD But really, these ultra low power LCDs do update slowly, I've got a big Casio and its basically Casio's version of this TI calculator here, though I really need to load some cool stuff onto its memory sometime XP
The worst part is that these calculators are actually really bad and ti just takes advantage of being ingrained in the school system, These calculators can run doom at about 3fps

Some changes could be made to make this compatible with the color screen, but because the calculator takes a much longer time to write to the color screen, resolution and/or framerate would have to be sacrificed in the video to keep it running at full speed. Running at 15MHz, the CPU can only draw 750,000 pixels per second, and that's full time with a solid color. After halving the horizontal resolution, the CPU could only update the full screen at 160x240 at 19.5FPS. I am already using most of the CPU time for sound. 2. Any transfer software, such as TI-Connect or TILP should work. If one fails, try the other.
TI-84 Plus CE got a eZ80 CPU with over 40 MHz but the screen has already gone color QVGA, so not sure if CPU power is still the bottleneck. Also Plus CE isn't compatible with monochrome TI-84 assembly code so you are very likely need to write the whole thing from scratch again to make it work.

That's impressive, it seems like this music video gets ported to everything that can potentially display it, even when said device shouldn't even be able to play music under normal circumstances.
You can play sound through a serial port (which I did in my fx-9750GII video) but I don't think that's what's being done here, the quality is way too good for that.
The TI-84+(and the TI-83+SE) have a 65khz quartz timer. It sounds like he's multiplexing 2 channels into each bit(Though I would hazard a guess and say with an EXTREMELY efficient interpreter 4 channels per bit should be possible - it likely would have little processing time remaining after that).
The animation is sooooo smooth especially if we're talking about a calulator that I only thought was capable of running "Boxes World." And the SOUND! Jesus these Texas Instruments are the truest of instruments. I love this! It's so pleasing to my chiptune craving ears and my 8 bit thirsty eyes!
