- Palpatine and Mace Windu's duel in Revenge of the Sith is very different in the novel compared to Episode 3 by George Lucas. Big Star Wars theory and explained video about the prequel trilogy.

I think that this dialogue works well to show that he's even MORE insidious, using the Jedi Code and requesting mercy while doing horrible and violent acts. Mace and others should have really been better prepared to deal with a Sith Lord, Star Wars Meg!
Book Canon:
Palpatine: “If only you knew, Jedi Masters, how long I’ve been waiting for this moment.”
My headcanon:
Palpatine: “you know how long I been waiting for this? Whoo, I’m about to make a name for myself here!”
This was more enjoyable than videos about who said what about perhaps what Disney may be doing to screw up Star Wars. Not that they don’t do that sometimes but the constant chatter about it has had me lately rethinking my Star Wars TH-cam intake. This was refreshing. THX!!!
very refreshing, unfortunately I can't seem to find many star wars youtubers who aren't endlessly talking about rumors and complaining, unfortunately even Meg does that from time to time, this video was a breath of fresh air from her
It’s only a matter of time before we see Mace Windu return.
That dialogue for palps is so much better and makes you really see that even to the very end he manipulates so easily
The fight scene in the book sounds much cooler than what we got on film. More detail and more powerful Sith fighting.
Arresting him as a sith alone was indeed illegal. The everything else Palpatine did/had planned, that was illegal and he deserved the killing blow Mace was almost able to deliver.
Darn, you were not kidding! This does improve the dialogue!
That is a much more complex issue than in the movie. I wish this was in the movies.
Definitely a fab novelisation. Really enjoyed it. Despite my age being more aligned with the Original Trilogy (I saw Empire Strikes Back in the cinema as a kid), I’m more into the Prequel Era and the politics and actions that led to the fall.
I’d be well up for a directors extended cut of episodes one through three.
This definitely would have been a fascinating scene with the philosophy debate in battle. I'm guessing it was cut because of the graphic deaths. I remember also in the book that when Anakin reaches Palpatine's office, he sees the head of Saesee Tiin grinning up at him, as well as the other dead bodies. That wasn't in the movie either.
But, OTOH, the sheer shock of the Jedi when Sidious spin-jumps at them in unrestrained rage made sense to me why they could have been caught so easily off-guard, even knowing what he was. It rather ties into the hubris we were seeing in Episode I, when the council disbelieved that Maul could be a Sith, despite his training in the Jedi arts. In this instance, they clearly thought that even though he was a Sith, taking him into custody would be relatively easy, or they would have brought more Jedi with them.
Can you imagine how much money and hype would come out of a Directors cut of Revenge of the Sith??
Mace windu fought Palpatine fare and square and won if it weren’t for anakin mace would have killed even more so than yoda
Ironically, the very book you’re quoting from clearly resolves the debate, it says Mace uses his shatterpoint ability to beat Palpatine. So if this is the definitive version of the story, there really is no debate.
You need to re-read it then. It's the exact opposite. Windu and Sidious were stalemated despite Windu being amped off Sidious' Dark Side power, then Windu mistakenly interpretted Shatterpoint to draw upon fear he THOUGHT was Palpatine's to commit the disarm. Palpatine then mocked him by saying, "You think that's MY fear?" And Windu realized it was Anakin's fear he drew on, mistaking it for Palpatine's, and in that moment, Windu realized he was going to lose.
Last, and by far the most key point, is the novel describes Sidious' lightning as BENDING Windu's saber back toward's Windu's face, and it describes Windu's horror when he realized he was powerless to stop it. If Sidious hadn't stopped to play weak and trick Anakin, he would've pushed Windu's saber through his head. That right there is key: Sidious had Windu helplessly dead-to-rights, and when he stopped, we all know he actually could've kept going for far longer. He simply wanted to make Anakin commit the act.
The novel is the #1 source people use to back the argument Sidious won, while the interpetation of the film is what Windu supporters use. Then there's Lucas' quote on the matter, in which he said Windu won the physical duel but that Sidious was hiding his true strength and faking, not trying to win. That's quite the caveat by Windu's "winning". If you beat a chess grandmaster, but they actually let you win, then you didn't truly beat them. You got a win, but you didn't *beat* the grandmaster.
The film even makes it look like Sidious manipulated it to trick Anakin. He took out the first 3 with ease, then dragged out the duel with Windu until the exact moment Anakin arrived, in which he mysteriously gets disarmed after a masterful display of ability.
Think about this: if Sidious had beaten Windu alone, he would've had nothing to hold over Anakin to force Anakin away from the Jedi. It's literally Anakin's action against Mace that forces Anakin to choose the Sith because there's no going back from that. Without that action, Sidious' plan to convert Anakin falls flat. Anakin could've chose to join him to save Padme before turning him in to the Jedi, but he didn't. He chose the Jedi. Sidious HAD to force Anakin's hand.
I've read that novel twice but had forgotten all of the exact details. Thanks for the refresher, Meg. I agree, it wold have been a lot more intense and better if the movie had mirrored the books dialog and visuals.
Exactly! What debate? Mace defeated Palpatine. What movie did people watch wear Palpatine won?
It’s never been a debate. Mace beat Palpatine fair and square.
I dont think mace beat palp at all
@@hazardous_vegito6516right! It’s always been up for debate.
@@hazardous_vegito6516if Palp could just destroy all the jedi without a sweat he wouldn’t have hid for decades, he lost to Mace.
You don't think that palps lost on purpose to lure Anakin to attacking Mace
@@nathanhawee5373 No. Windu was the superior duelist. Palpatines pride, hate and anger fueled Mace Windu’s blade as the fight prolonged. He didn’t “lose on purpose”, he did indeed lose the fight but used the opportunity of Anakins arrival to his benefit.
If the Jedi thought they were going up against a Sith lord, then they should have brought far more knights with them, but the Jedi always had an issue with arrogance (yes, I'm still salty about how they treated Ahsoka.).
This was a great video. The novelization of Ep 3 was a great read. The extra dialog did enhance the story. I also felt in the Ep 3 video game the additional dialog between Anakin & Obi-Wan was great.
Rumors say there is a 3 hr cut of Ep 3.
you missed that he was recording the conversation and manipulating the conversation
I love the part where they discribe Kit Fistos head falling on the desk, also there was a lot more between anakin and palpatine when palpatine tells anakin is a sith great book
It really makes me curious on why Mace Windu also didn’t bring in a squad of Clone Troopers to arrest Palpatine?
That would've messed with the timing of Order 66.
@@DarthTeaDious Trying to imagine a squad of troopers without their inhibitor chips
@@isaackim7675 It wouldn't be Rex 25 X. He has more experience than most of the clones. They wouldn't have Storm Troopers yet. I'm not sure how it fits, other than ISB agents or special-trained forces.
@@DarthTeaDious Besides. Rex was still in hyperspace on the way from Mandalore
@@isaackim7675 I mean, it wouldn't have been 25 clones who acted like him. They would've been on the Republic's side until Order 66 and beyond because they wouldn't be following that order like The Bad Batch (didn't). They'd be privy to the situation and stick it out, but most of them would die before the fight even started and the rest would die very shortly after.
Make sense of this for me. How do troopers without chips make a difference?
those slow motion scenes of Palpatine you are showing there almost looked like his stunt double rather than Ian himself I never noticed that before.
That’s very interesting. Thanks SWMeg… more of this kind of stuff please.
Palpatine was adept at Mind Blocking that mind readers read nothing incriminating
A much better scene as you've read Meg
More SW Factoids !?
YES Please !!!
Thanks Meg
Absolutely makes sense absolutely let's keep it coming definitely
I liked how Palpatine recorded the dialogue then used it against the jedi later in his hologram campaign against the jedi. they fell right into his trap.
Absolutely makes sense totally different ideas actually
That makes sense absolutely
Definitely more content like this
Of course it makes sense absolutely that's more than i thought of course
That's a great success story altogether
Very well then let's keep it coming definitely
Thanks Meg 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂
This was great Meg. Keep em coming. Do you think we will ever get the "director's" cut of this film?
I think that would have been great to see on the big screen.
Yes more please!!!
Exactly makes sense absolutely that's very interesting idea actually
So it's treason then!
Wasn't that novel out years ago?
another good one Meg🎉
Exactly makes sense absolutely
This was great 👍
You neglected to mention how Sheev recorded then played the audio of the meeting as evidence. After he destroys the recorder he's like, "That's all I need. You have no idea how long I waited for this." Second best part of the book for me. My first is after Gen Grevious says how he was "trained in your Jedi arts by Count Dooku" and Obi-Wan responds with "I trained the man who killed him." Obi-Wan = EPIC
I have been telling all of my friends that complain about how wooden and unbelievable the fall of the Republic & Anakin to the dark side was, that they really need to read this novelisation.
It does tell the story more completely than the film was able, or allowed, to
Very interesting! I want to read this book now.
If they had come with the evidence of him controlling both sides of the war they absolutely could have dethroned him but on the basis of him being a Sith alone they realistically could do nothing
Palps argument is irrelevant. The dude pulled strings and presided over genocide, war, moving to a dictatorship to name just a few of his egregious crimes. He tried to weasel out with his words, but his argument held no water so to speak. He was guilty of many crimes.
Would have loved for different directors to direct the prequels over Lucas like they did with Empire & Jedi. He’s a visionary but not a great director
Palpatine was recording the first part of the conversation.
*I AM THE SENATE*
Not yet.
Ja Ja made me do it…
Ja Ja is the key to all of this....
Hi Meg, awesome video, on Mace Windu, we all know that Windu would have won if Anakin had not helped Palps, and cut his hand off, and that was the final straw in turning Anakin against the Jedi and him killing the younglings, Mace is still alive somewhere I think and I would like to see him come back but I do not think it will happen. Thank you SWM
Exactly that makes sense definitely worth it for you Daniel harman absolutely
Absolutely makes sense absolutely fantastic idea's actually
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH US ALWAYS! 👋😎👋😆🖐🍁
utini!
Of course that's a good idea actually let's get some more information that i need right now
And absolutely let's keep it up then
Very good idea actually
So, what's the change that was allowed ? It's not like the novel was ever canon. The source is canon, and the films are the source.
Still a criminal. As he masterminded everything. Conspiracy, murder, etc etc... That's all that's needed.
Very good thinking actually let's find out what's next in the acolyte do you want me to continue with the season 2
Thanks Meg! Hello There
This would have been fire.
Hahaha this is how i imagined trump was going to act after the clipped ear.
The attack on my life has left me scarred
WHY THE SILENCE ON THE REY MOVIE CANCELLATION???
Great jibber jabber as always but Mace whipped his ass.
Very well done then let's get back to business then
That's fine with me though
if the force shows you a crime, is that enough to count as proof in the Republic to go to trial. At this point it's the word of the Jedi against the word of the Sith. Did the Jedi have real proof? I am a casual fan of star wars but in my mind the Jedi had no proof.
How did I get here so fast
Exactly that's okay with me also
Very good thinking actually let's find out what you said last night
Not a fan of the comic version. Feels like to much explaining for the audience when these things are implied
No worries at all
Maybe let's find out then
I have agreed with that idea's actually
-Lucas writes crappy dialogue
-a real writer cleans it up and adds structure and psychology.
-Lucas claims that the revision is more in line with his true vision
-1/3 of the fanbase shivers with utopian bliss that the cult leader spoke.
-Rinse and repeat
It’s amazing that someone would post a video basically proving that Lucas is a hack and somehow come to the completely opposite conclusion. 🤷🏻
That's a successful story so far though
The weakest part of the entire prequel trilogy was the dialog. Too bad the dialog from the novel was not what we got in the film.
Utidiiiiiii 🎉🖤🖤😉🎉
Very good idea's actually let's find out what what you want me to do exactly what you said already last night
Yeah g'day,
Pick a Windoo you're leaving.
I've never laughed so hard as someone goes flying.
It's a goodnight from you and it's a goodnight from the broken, cantankerous, belligerent, obnoxious, obstinate, obstreperous, cynical Old Fart.
Can we not do the click-bait style headlines.
Go on then
Palpatine recorded everything so smear the Jedi. Mace still beat him.
Excuses regarding personal spiritual is just that... of course evil will claim it had a spiritual also but the reality of that dark spiritual is always against others so no.. it cannot claim spiritual amnesty.. that's a bull cope out excuse.
Exactly what I needed Hayden Christensen is at home resting up in bed
Cmon... he's stalling.
I would think they could arrest him as he was the leader of the CIS
Nah I like the movie version better than the book
Please stop with the silly click bait titles.
George Lucas *good* Disney *evil*
I think you’re forgetting Lucas was responsible for giving the rights to Disney in the first place
@@spaceagepenguinso
@@adamburgess311 I’m just saying, don't idolize Lucas either
@@spaceagepenguin horrible disgusting decision from Lucas.
@@adamburgess311what do you mean, “so”? Would there ever be a situation where you would’ve sold Star Wars?
