  • I hope that this can help you with your pin problem.
    Do this at your own risk. It’s not hard, but you could break something and you’ll be using some sharp tools.
    Fanatec offered to fix mine for free even though it was out of warranty, but I know for some people this won’t be an option, and frankly I didn’t want or need to wait. It’s a straightforward enough job.
    The tools that you’ll need are :
    A clean and tidy work area (ignore the mess in the blurry background in my pics)
    13mm and 8mm deep sockets, with thin walls for the 13mm.
    2, 3 and 4mm allen keys/tools/wrenches
    T10 Torx bit
    Small Philips Screwdriver
    Various Tweezers and Plastic Pokers - Amazon is a good source for an electronic tool kit which will have a selection of these things
    Sharp Craft Knife
    Soldering Iron and Solder
    Hot Glue Gun
    Some Heat Shrink

    Thanks for making this video. The fix worked perfect. The only thing I did different was to avoid the swearing and slide the pins into the back cover and secure it before hot gluing the back side. That made sure everything was aligned before gluing

    Thank you so much for making this video! I just performed this fix, and it works perfectly. The most time consuming part for me was dealing with the hot glue. :)

      That's very kind, thank you. I mostly had the camera on the phone out so that I could take pictures to remind me how to put it back together, then as soon as I started I thought it might be able to help someone, so took a load more. It seems it's helped quite a few now so that's good!

    Thanks for your clear precise to the point video. I had a broken pin and before that I had noticed the wheel behaving strangely. Pop up men and pit request popping up randomnly, wheel clutch engaging. Ordered loom and fitted it thanks to your video. Unfortunately still having the same problems. Don't know if it's QR1 lite problem. Reluctant to get the other QR as don't know if it will fix my problem. QR2 isn't compatible with my base.

    hi bro, excellent video, the one I fixed is filled with a black rubber and y had to unsoldier every cable to clean everything, however I assembled everything but it didn't work, even with te cable diagram set as original... is there any chance you could send me a cable diagram to the 12 pin plug and the pins?

      I'm sorry I don't have one. You might just have to go to Fanatec for a replacement. They are helpful, just really slow, it would be so much easier if it was just listed as a part that you could buy rather than having to exchange a half dozen emails first! My repair is still holding up after nearly four years with a LOT of use though!

    Repaired mine today, used the same empty pin as you, but for whatever reason my settings button doesn’t bring up the menus anymore. Also mine didn’t have heat shrink, they like dipped it in rubber and it was in every crevasse. I had to take a dremel and grind away at the rubber for a while

      Might be worth checking the continuity in the harness first to make sure something hasn't lost it's connection during the repair.

    Hi... in case something like that happens to me... Where can I get pins?

    • @johntusting2467
      @johntusting2467  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know where you would get individual pins. You can get the whole harness from Fanatec, but it might take a while to persuade them to sent it, and then actually get it sent... There are spare pins within the harness in the wheel that you can steal without it being a problem though. If you want to do this fix whilst waiting for a new harness to arrive.

    Hi John, I have a V2 wheel and my downshift paddle has stopped working, all of the pins are still there although one is more recessed I'm assuming that's the cause of the problem. I've tried gently pulling the pin to no avail, so I'm guessing I'll have to push from the other side, do you think this will work?

    • @johntusting2467
      @johntusting2467  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One pin is supposed to be a bit shorter so it’s probably not that I’m afraid.

    • @alancestors

      @@johntusting2467 Thanks anyway, BTW I think the problem of pins bending/ braking may be caused by the centre screw on the wheel base becoming loose allowing the plastic washer to move thus blocking the pin holes. Again Thanks

  • @jorischroer5449
    @jorischroer5449 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I imagine the pins must be stuck in the wheelbase? How did you get those out?
    I'm struggling with that at the moment.

    • @johntusting2467
      @johntusting2467  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry, only just saw this. My pin wasn't stuck in the base so I didn't have that problem. When my replacement harness arrived, (Still haven't fitted it 13 months later, the repair is holding up fine...) they also sent a replacement for the wheelbase. So they are available. I'm sorry that I can't help more.

    I have a pin that is a bit pushed in, but just a bit shorter than the others. Should i do anything about it?

    • @johntusting2467
      @johntusting2467  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hard to say without having it in my hands. It could be one of the pins with nothing on the other end of it. It's just the shape of the pin and the plastic holder which prevents the pins from getting pushed in, so something is giving way there. I'd also be careful that the pin isn't out of line because you don't want to damage the socket end on the wheelbase too. In your position I'd probably start the slow process (took me a week) of getting a new wiring harness from Fanatec so that I had it in stock. Then perhaps open the wheel to have a look. Incidentally, I still have the harness which Fanatec eventually sent me, because the repair from the video is holding up fine after 2 months of daily use, removal and refitting of the wheel.

      @@mcqcjc8409 Yep, I found out about that later. The shorter pin is apparently the power pin. It's a smidge shorter so that the others are connected as you push the wheel on before at the last second the power connects when the shorter pin arrives.
